Brighter than a thousand suns is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion, its a timeless masterpiece from start to finish... and only the cool kids know about it.
Didn’t like it at all at the time. Thought they were cashing in. Think very differently now. Took the style of the day and made it darker and more atmospheric with some wonderful touches in it. Unmistakably KJ. Shame they don’t like playing it. Up their with their best.
@@hoppers6899 good musicians move on and so should their fans. Their style has changed over the years and this doesn't fit in with their current sound. As much as I like this style better they probably got tired of performing it.
Yep, "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" is for sure a timeless piece of work from lost times when everything was better, easier and less stressful... And only we, the cool kids, knew about it...
that break at 2:15 is just incredible. I know KJ hardcores prefer to look down on this era, but this song is epic. The guitar is like a distortion of time against the rest of the beat, but menacing at the same time - the way it all bleeds together is just sublime.
@@gwenaelbourriaud6954 I wouldn't say underrated they just never wanted that fame well maybe they did for like 3 years in the 80s but after love like blood they kinda said F that. Glad they stayed that band. Ever notice when bands get big they change and never really in a good way
I think all eras of Killing Joke has a place one thing is for sure their message has always been solid, their music honest and Geordie is a freaking awesome guitarist ...
I hated that they changed there first two sounds after Extremities Dirt Various Emotions. I loved the post punk industrial rock and the second new wave sound. I can’t say I love the 3rd sound. Never cared for Industrial Metal stuff. But that’s just me. I’m a sucker for 1980s music I guess.
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Killing Joke and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
@daniel seddon daniel seddon, yes, but there is a but. If just the European Union machine hadn't existed and each European country could have kept growing at its own pace and on its own path! Instead look at the big mess the European Union has made of old and beautiful Europe! The Killing Joke's "Europe" actually says it all: ruclips.net/video/gy92Ypkpn6I/видео.html "What have they done? What are they doing?"
@daniel seddon daniel seddon, spot on! The European Union Bureaucratic Machine doesn't represent the different peoples of Europe. How could it ever? There are so many differences among us! Great Britain has been a crucially important country for the rest of the European countries and the entire World for centuries and it's impossible to imagine our Planet without such a unique and very special country. Europe and the World do need a Britain which is strong and inspiring, as it has always been so far. The Brexit Process does look like a messy and impossible quagmire but I wish that once out of it all, the British People and Great Britain will have found a new fruitful future. From my heart I send you all the very best wishes.

This song makes you feel something magical. Amazing Musicianship-Talent that came together to make great music, I just keep listening to it over and over.
Mystical and mesmerizing. Also beautiful art video, brooding and hallucinant. KJ is a force of nature and Jaz Coleman a multi gifted visionair. Period.
Hearing this song for the "first time" a few years ago made me realize I faintly recall this song from my childhood as a 10-11 year old. Love the atmosphere to this tune (and video).
Im obsessed with this video, I recently hear killing joke for the first time, and now I have to say its one of the best bands Ive heard.... I only like 80s music, its a shame new bands dont make music like this
I love how the Bass Guitar distorts in the instrumental section 2:20. Awesome tone. I recon it was a mixing error they decided to keep in when they mastered the album. Good decision. Its more apparent on systems more than others.
Seeing killing joke live was the most spiritual experience ever. Wish they would play more from this album and night time though. Long live the raven king !
This song almost makes me feel like im in a silent movie! This record is so good that some people shouldn't be allowed to hear it because if you have to have it explained to you. ur never gonna get it!!
Anyone feel that this song is PERFECT for what the whole world is going through at the moment? All too busy remembering what we've lost until the final part lifts us up..."So let the sunrise..."
Killing Joke is pretty perfect for a lot of the changes we are experiencing - a lot is open to interpretation. I got really into them in the last few years. Over fifteen albums I find the same basic message regarding the duality of man and his capacity for creative change. In short, if we believe in apocalypse we might just get it but if we believe a golden age can come than perhaps it can.
Same. It always bothered me that they played it differently on live performances, so I made an edited version of this song where I use the live version guitar before the 2:16 section plays + that section is extended in the edited version I made. Feels more "right".
The underrated pop trilogy of Killing Joke which had Night Time, Brighter Then A thousand Suns and Outside The Gate from 1985-1989. Although Outside The Gate gets a lot of hate and so did this album. But I love this album so much.
Great song - Miss the days when this was popular. Whatever happened to the 80s? It was this revolution in music and then it seems like by about 1989 it all fizzled. It was as though there was some shift in consciousness in the music industry about 1982 that lasted till 1988. Wish this type of music was still being produced. Oh well at least the old stuff is still available.
One of the bands (this album especially) that inspired me as a musician my band and my solo music. Found out later they were adored by bigs like Metallica and Foo Fighters. This album, "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" I thought was different from their other stuff and was my favorite.
Simone Di Ottavio I’d known or owned all their work up to “ nightime “. On hearing they had new album I asked my sonic youth fan music guru if he’d heard the new KJ album “ yeah - it sounds like fucking AHA “ was his exact words. I wasn’t deterred cos actually liked “take on me “ & “ stay on these roads “ ( wouldn’t share that at the time ) and to this day consider “ adorations” and “ in Cythera “ to be as “ beautiful a ‘pop ‘ song as any bugger could write. Found Pylon bit ‘ samey ‘ - glad Morton’s’ voice has lasted as well as Jazs’ best wishes from wessexshire

That big dark guitar underneath the verses. Doom itself.
