My current favorite slow burn is the sort of side couple in An Ember in the Ashes (you get the girl's pov). It goes from the 2nd to the 4th book and I remember the moment I realized it could be a romance and my mind was blown. The girl is really powerful and ruthless and the guy is kind of quiet but he wants her so bad.
OMG YES MY FAVOURITE TROPE 🥳 i have a recommendation but it's a marauders fanfic actually. it's more of the type of neil and andrew and i can assure you i've never seen a slowburn like that. you don't really have to know anything about the original books, as you follow literally the adults in the original series. The main couple is Sirius and Remus and they have that dynamic of wild child and more mellow sad boy. When I read this fanfic it was only bc i wanted to get into marauders fanfiction and i didn't expect the subplot. and when i tell you i was OBSESSED. you follow them throughout the years and you see how unexpectedly their romance stars growing. truly when you start reading you start to pick up in some details and little things, and you are like "wait, are they...in love?"definitely one of the angsties couples i've seen (it's at kanej level, if you know what i mean) bc there's a lot of repressed sexuality and abusive parents and a lot of chaos. if you're in for the long run, i can assure it would consume your whole being and you'll never be the same after you read it!
i love this!!! I think I'm forever frustrated because the first love story I read was percabeth and now if I don't suffer for four books before they get to kiss I'm not buying it
THE CAPTIVE PRINCE!!! It’s this trope, I read it after tfhc, MAJOR trigger warnings, pretty spicy, if you do read it you must get through all three books to understand I’m not crazy for liking this book:) Same vibe of tfhc but with kingdoms

I don't even think they talk in the original series and I did not expect to ship them at all, but by the end of the first Bloodlines book I was really hoping their new friendship would turn into romance. Now they're my favorite book couple ever. I also really like the secondary couple in the Gilded Wolves trilogy even though I find the main couple boring lol.

The main character disguises herself as her brother to become the magician’s assistant at the castle but oops she falls in love with prince Arthur, there’s lots of pining and yearning, my bread and butter😌 Also, Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle, it’s like a slowburn friends to lovers/ best friend’s brother, I really enjoyed it.🤍
Sunny please please read Garden of the Cursed, the childhood best friend to lovers to enemies back to lovers is soooo good, their slow burn was the yummiest. And it’s set in a cool fantasy world! Would do anything for you to give it a shot 🙇♀️

i second all The Captive Prince recommendations in the comments, but wanted to warn u that Book 1 is not only the weakest in the series but also pretty brutal and triggering so you /might/ end up disliking some characters... you have to trust the process for this series but it's worth it, trust!! 😭 my personal recommendations are The Watchmaker of Filigree Street and The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation!
