Hello sir.. quick question, why did you decide to not use the "hand winch" . Great video, I would love to tag along with you sometime. Keep up the great videos.

Hey Bryan, thanks for the comment and the kudos! Great question about the hand winch, or the “come-along” as it’s also called. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure about the pull rating of that hand winch. If I had to guess it might be around 6000 lbs, which is how much my GX weighs. Realistically, the hand winch is underrated for my rig, but I might use it in a bind. In this case, by the time I decided to use it, I realized I was frozen to the snow and that the force needed to free the GX might be as much as double the capacity of the hand winch. I had just recently watched a video sent by a friend 😉 of a recovery gone bad where a guy could have lost his life due to equipment failure, and I had visions of me over stressing the hand winch, snapping the cable and having it lash back and injure me, or worse. After that, I thought, “Digging out doesn’t sound so bad after all.” In the end, it all worked out, but I am now thinking about making sure I have all the necessary and properly rated recovery gear for my setup. Thanks again for the question. Maybe I’ll see you out on the trail if you’re ever in my neck of the woods. Adventure on!
