LYRICS
Cleared the fog that was veiled around me
And blurred my sights
Suddenly, I'm no longer aching
To honor my plights
Rising moon and my skin is peeling
Past undone
Suddenly, I can't justify
What I had become
They're like metal alchemists wielding ancient notes
The starting melody sounds so very much like indian classical music. Love the delightful meditative trippy indian music effect, this is pure genius.
Pure genius. Perfectly stated
Totally agree, you are #100 right pure musical genius
That plus other super Beatlesy vibes makes it sound like a Harrison Beatles tune in the intro and a bit here or there elsewhere tbh
Opeth has no genre
Opeth it it's own genre
folk
@@hectormendoza7261 Progressive metal, alot of progressive metal bands sound like their own genre listen to cynic for exemple or dream theater or just any progressive rock or metal band.
They/Them
Simply ever present 😊
Atonement/ Reverie.
Correction!!!
That's what I thought. Reverie starts at 5:23. In my playlist it's "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" together
@@eddiespectral it's weird cause everyone on youtube who posts "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" only posts Harlequin Forest.
@@eddiespectral The coolest thing is that it's actually confirmed! On the CD, if you play track 4, it is Atonement. If you let it play, the display changes to track number 5 when Reverie plays. But if you just go to track 5 normally, it plays Harlequin Forest without Reverie as the intro. I LOVE how they did that!
@@PerpetualBass They created confusion that way lol. But we can confirm "Reverie" is the intro for "Harlequin Forest", not the outro from "Atonement".
One of the most beautiful Opeth's songs by far. It's incredible how Akerfeldt guide the band through different ways and styles. Hugs from Brazil
Bought this album for less than 7 bucks, that was an absolute steal.
I love this song. I've never heard anything like it. It's so beautiful. I keep it on a playlist I listen to to help me sleep on nights that I'm having a hard time. It means the world to me.
Hahaa same for Hex Omega
This song means the world to me to, music at it's finest
This album is a master-piece, solely for the reason that it contains influence from so many cultures. For example, The Grand Conjuration has a substantial tinge of Ottoman/Middle- Eastern music, both rhythmically and tune-wise.And I don't know whether they did this intentionally but the tune progression of this song is trademark Indian classical, yet retains that Middle-Eastern tinge, thanks to the rhythmic sections performed by Martin Lopez. An absolute master-piece.
DukeofHazard11 Opeth have a lot of great Middle-Eastern influence in parts of songs (Closure, Bleak, Seventh Soujourn, Wilde Flowers, Cusp of Eternity etc)
"Trademark Indian classical" - as an amateur Indian classical musician I can confirm this :)
@@nikhil1561 Namma Kannadiga!
@@TheMonologueByKishanSiddhanth lol how did you know I was a kannadiga
@@nikhil1561 Hi Kannadigas from a kannadiga
0:00 - 5:22 is Atonement
5:23 onwards is Reverie
Yup!!
duhh
@DecrepitOrigin888 😂
@Zedrik Allen I can feel those lyrics and the accompanying riff at the end ......
This song reminds me of the pyramid/desert map on super mario 64
Funny... this song reminds me of Rayman on the dreamcast. No idea why
When I hear the intro, I think of Spyro the Dragon for some reason
Reminds me of Hot Top Volcano in Diddy Kong Racing lol
Thank you Opeth for create this sublime masterpiece 🖤

What I had become
second part similar to Lamb Of God's What I've Become
Don't know the band, just heard for the first time, but indeed there seem to be a few similarities.
sorry, i meant the lyrics
Great lyrics, thanks for sharing..
FeNsTa
Think so too. Very welcome.:)
Anyone else getting Spyro the Dragon vibes from this song?
yes I do!
Those who have listened to Porcupine Tree can hear a clear influence in the beginning of the track. So good.
I find the "Reverie" section to be the most PT-sounding part of this song
Well that’s not surprising consideration Steven Wilson is a key member of both bands
Yup i find it reminds me of Porcupine Tree. Not surprising either.
Yeah I can hear it, I love what Steven and Mikael's friendship and collaboration brought to both their bands.
@@drewpeterson9236A year late, but although Wilson was quite important for their early 2000s outputs, I don't really think he did anything on this album (his influence is their, I guess, but not that heavily).
Love your music Opeth. Please keep being. And even if you go with the flow of time, your music will always be here for me.
Reverie is like out of this world man holy shit, what a fucking beautiful melody.
Is it me or could this song have been cut for Pale Communion? Amazing then and now, still Opeth and still wonderfully dark.
"Thank you for releasing me Spyro"
Kenric Durst
Glad I'm not the only one thinking of Spyro while listening to this one! :D
So I am not alone when thinking about the good old Spyro games witht this song, awesome :D
😂
Love the Indian classical sound
I need a 10 hour loop of 5:23 and onward
HEELSTEVEN MAGGLE same
same melody at reverie/harlequin forest from 5.08
That's 'Reverie'
@@somnum5056
Thank you! This video has existed since I asked for it, but better late than never.
I love this song. Listening to it I get flashbacks of Spyro.
what's Spyro btw
+Zakaria Ennya Spyro the Dragon. It's a video game franchise, first started on SEGA Dreamcast, if I recall correctly.
+Kevin Goeltz Spyro had Opeth in it? Btw my dad is named Spyros
Dialogue with the Stars huh... then again, I don't know what this comment is referring to... and nevermind, I think Spyro started on Playstation... I'm not sure if Spyro had Opeth in it... but... I doubt it first of all. Second...
Teyo Valadez care to fill me in on what you're referring to?
Kevin Goeltz back in the day with playstaion, i used to play spyro while opeth would play in my cd player. idk, this song and spyro roaming around was awesome
Love the arabian drum beats...
5:23 this part gave me chills
Yap!
But why?!
i didnt lol
technically a different song. Its supposed to lean into Harlequin Forest but got put at the end of this song for some reason
@@Joshcoshbagoshfor it to crossfade into the intro of Harlequin Forest
It's like a Silent Hill Vibe,
Come play in Egypt :) Pleeeeeaaaaase
Ahmad H Qinawy they'd be jailed for satanism because we're fucking retarded
Gravewalker the accuracy
Gravewalker, Opeth isn't satanic anymore, however they are pretty anti-religious.
COME TO BRAZIL!!!
i fucking approve it pleaaaaase lol, there's lots of opeth fans here
Opeth are a metal band with closest sound to eclectic Indian classical Ragas. There' a raaga called Raag Jog. This song majorly is in that raga
anybody said Porcupine Tree?
Yeah especially the ambience of the last 2 and a half minutes or so.
IntermediateJesus
from 5:23 onwards is actually a separate piece to Atonement called 'Reverie'. I agree with you though, very PT-like
Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is involved with Opeth. Probably why we hear the influences here.
Yes, very much. Porcupine Tree is the best band.
Thanos Panousis except 100% better
I just love this song - it is beautiful, magical....regards from Slovenija.
i always got different lyrics when listening to this. the last two lines of each verse
suddenly i'm now awakening
to another place
high
suddenly i can just define
what i have become
high
this song has driven my morning to greatness
This sounds really peaceful! 😊
4:09 anyone also get a The Doors vibes from this one?
Riders on the Storm or Love Street fersure!
I'm enchanted by this song..
Reverie is one of the best interludes i've ever heard
Reminds me of the Beatles
Can you suggest a Beattles song that sounds like this? The singer said at a concert he basically ripped it off them so I want to see for myself lol.
acadianalien Reminds me of "She Said She Said" off of Revolver
I guess the very beginning. I admit its a bit of a stretch - but there are a couple of songs off Revolver that I am reminded of when I hear this song.
the beatles were a hippie band, this has nothing to do with hippies.
ever seen a hippie at a concert of opeth??
Akerfeldt is in to all sorts of 60's and 70's music.
Love so much Opeth. This one is a true masterpiece.
5:20 till end reminds me of Untitled #6 from John Frusciante's Niandra Lades album. Beautiful stuff (both)
Vamos a escuchar a Fruchiante , gracias por el dato
Reverie is just fucking gorgeous. Well, Atonement is, too. The whole fucking album for that matter.
5:24 - 6:28 is Reverie isn't it? Harlequin Forest is labeled as "Reverie / Harlequin Forest" even though I'm pretty sure it's only Harlequin Forest. This track should be labeled "Atonement / Reverie"
I STARTED THIS ALBUM FROM THE BEGINNING. I FORGOT TO SAVE TO MY LIST,FAVORITES AND WATCH LATER. IM NOW "FORCED" TO RE-LISTEN FROM THE BEGINNING.. MY POOR SOUL
Wow, thank you guys for uploading especially this song :)
Smoked dope and then listened to this. Good times
absolutely what i am feeling right now, man, you said it
Opeth is the best band to get high to, especially with the Pale Communion record
LSD/PC and Sorceress.
Smoking pot or tobacco with whiskey at 3 in the morning lit only by street lights and by the rainy window/Damnation
Psilocybe/No
Cocaine/Deliverance
Ecstacy/Orchid
DMT/Fuck that, no way, it's fucked up enough
Sober/???
@Jeff S Well gotta say that's an interesting approach of those songs
lmao
1:20 forward reminds me a bit of Beatles' Blue Jay Way
60s raga rock & psyche, with 70s fusion jazz vibes. Opeth is truly a masterful band. Btw. this is my favorite song from this album (Ghost Reveries).
Why did Opeth's own channel stick Reverie in here? Reverie is a hidden intro to Harlequin Forest. They also labelled that song "Reverie/Harlequin Forest"
Well, on the album, the part you call "Reverie" is actually in the end of Atonement. It then skips into the next track, which is "Reverie/Harlequin Forest". So they probably want it this way.
@@Weeela That's incorrect. It's a hidden intro on "Harlequin Forest", is listed as such here and is listed so on the album. Atonement ends and it skips to song 5 with a -1:40 or something. You are right in that you have to finish "Atonement" in order to hear it, but posting it this way on RUclips is silly because they're separate, disconnected posts that make finding Reverie impossible unless you finish Atonement. This works in an album that's meant to be listened to the whole way through, but you can't "rewind" into Harlequin forest and find Reverie. It's annoying and confusing to include a song title in a song where it doesn't exist.
Like Tool and the Moody Blues had a baby
Why does this sound like a super mario desert level theme.
This reminds me so much of The Doors.....
Since there's so many comments stating what this classic track reminds them of, there's a song with the same kinda chord progressions and atmospheric leads in those scales called "Running" from 311. Both are incredible tracks. You'd never think Opeth and 311 would have anything in common but on these two particular songs, you'll see it almost immediately.
5:24
Cleared the fog that was veiled around me
And blurred my sights
Suddenly, I'm no longer aching
To honor my plights
Rising moon and my skin is peeling
Past undone
Suddenly, I can't justify
What I had become
Blown away, this is amazing on every level...
05:24 Jamiroquai jamming session outro
lmaoooo
so brilliant, I love this in every way possible.
My top 5 Opeth albums:
1. Still Life
2. Ghost Reveries
3. My Arms, Your Hearse
4. Deliverance
5. Damnation
It remembers a mix of Porcupine Tree with Soundgarden, with some inspiration of Kula Shaker. In other words: I like it!!!
Would be perfect for the soundtrack of Dune
To be honest, it sounds happier than Dune aims to be.
Does Reverie remind anyone else of something from a Castlevania game?
Yeah kinda
The keyboard part is similar to Lost Paintings and Wood Carven Partita from SOTN
Can hear so much Steven Wilson here
The first vocal melody reminds me of Blue Jay Way
Kind of reminds me of that violin part of kashmir by led zeppelin.
Cleared the fog that was veiled around me
And blurred my sights
Suddenly, I'm no longer aching
To honor my plights
Rising moon and my skin is peeling
Past undone
Suddenly, I can't justify
What I had become
Opeth, I've got a question. How come you don't stream your other albums on this channel?
it's a roadrunner thing
Diomedea Exulans Eh
I know people are naming many things this sounds like, but the dual guitar + keyboard melody is more reminiscent of The Mule by Deep Purple than anything else.
I can hear the Steven Wilson influence in this one.
Great Opeth...Incomum....Progressive..Classic...Songs...Enjoy Experiment Music!@mazing!
I think this song is meant to be from the point of the view of the protagonist, as he lies dying in the smoldering remains of the 'Harlequin Forest'.
Super zespół
El sordo , le preguntaron 4 veces la misma pregunta
Voyager Music Progressive!Enjoy!
I think this could be a part of the Moor... "I awoke from the miasma", "cleared the fog that was veiled around me" seems like a similar story
porcupeth
5:23 this part reminds me of something... but i dont know what xD i think it's from some game or anime?
geht nixan -.-
+Panopticon Castlevania/christianity/thorns/gothic/crusades
I dont get how someone can get the same association as I do from that part

Influenced by XTC - Greenman?
Drugs
Isn't this album "Reveries"? In description it lists the song as atonement and also lists the album as Atonement?
now that u mention it (alot actually) it definitely has the little purple dragon vibe lmao but still an delightful album/song to listen to under any weather. opeth...
Oriental influence??
@2:00 mark, hearing the exact 4 notes by the guitar that matches a 4 note lick in the song "Sequencer" from Al Di Meola's album "Scenario". Any chance of any influence or is it more than 1 generation away? We're talking 1983
Well, this song is *HEAVILY* influenced by Porcupine Tree (especially since Mikael Åkerfeldt and Steven Wilson are best friends) so it could have other influences too
Is this Akerfeldt homage to Within You Without You from The Beatles?
why this song reminds me jeremy of pearl jam?
also 5:23 onward sounds like outro of moonlapse vertigo. am i right?
Sweeeeeeeeeet emoooooooootionnnnnnnnn
What a great track from great band!
This is so Cool!! ☄️⭐️🌟⭐️🌠

Yes Yogi and Reggie missions
+Gena Bilyk link please?
Is this song in the game???
Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles vibes
Brings you for a ride...every time!!!
That intro is part chemical brothers part the beatles.
Strange fact: EM says this song long only 5:24. So what's that part after? Is it in true core of this song, is it addition, or what? Consider that it's after a pause which is exactly where song should end with EM tracklisting.
at 5:24 starts the "Reverie" section of "Reverie/Harlequin Forest."
Austin Bice Thank you so much!
That's completely changed the way I perceive 'Harlequin Forest' now. Thank you :o
5:23 Reverie
Dark Matter by Porcupine Tree :)
whole album is really interesting.
que buen tema a lo que termine "al descanzo"
