DJI AIR 3 BATTERY TEST | Is this the worst part of the Air 3?..

  • In my latest review of the newly released DJI Air 3, we are exploring the drone's battery life while in flight. There are plenty of reasons to purchase the Air 3, one of them being its marketed flight time of 46-minutes. When I see a number that impressive on a spec sheet, I know I need to test it.
Will the Air 3 live up to its billing or will it fall short of expectations in a worst case scenario? Let's find out, Let's Talk Drones!

Yes, your math is a little off... For the first flight you used 80% of the battery, right? So to make it equate to 100%, you have to divide the recorded flight time by 0.8. Not multiply by 1.2. It actually works out to 1.25 as a multiplier in this case.
Doesn't make a very big difference to your results, but some. And this is important to know when you want to extrapolate numbers, especially in scenarios tmwhere the extrapolated (theiretical) part of your estimate gets bigger and bigger in proportion to the whole..
    Nevertheless, enjoyed the review ❤
A lot of testers will readily accept/expect real world flight times to be around 79-80% of advertised time. The Air 3 seems to be doing better than most in this regard, but getting really close to 46 minutes would have to be nigh on impossible in the real world...

Great test! Marketing is way off in this case. I just flown about 27 mins until it forced me into the landing. (mix of sports and normal mode) with 2 charges on battary. But thats way better air2s where I been getting on avg less than 20 mins.

That’s like 10 mins better than the Air 2s, which is great. Not a soul on the planet expected it to be the actual 46 minutes. Those numbers are for perfect conditions, which is the only way to test the battery if the drone for consistent results.

Agreed. I’m pretty happy with the flight time overall. And realistically I was flying like a mad man. Not many people will actually fly the way I did in real life. But the fact it lasted ~35 minutes was still satisfactory to me!

I used to have an Air 2S before I crashed and lost it (my fault completely). I used to get around 22-25 minutes per battery. I just ordered an Air 3 because my tax return came in. I’m thrilled to have around 10 extra minutes per battery on my new drone. Great job.

I always take 10min off whatever they advertise anyway tried Air 3 out couple of days ago and it's alright just got to switch obstacle avoidance off just before you hand land it as makes things easier cos it ain't as easy as Air 2s unless you quickly take it by surprise. But hand landing a must if your on a windy slope or standing in water. So practise first before getting caught out.

Can't someone make a bigger aftermarket battery that gets 10 more minutes flight time? Seems like a huge demand.

    • @TheDroneGeek

The biggest challenge there is creating an after-market battery people would trust enough to put onboard their $1k+ investment. DJI and Autel have declared voided warranties over third-party propellers, let alone the power source that drives the drone! But it would be nice if such a thing existed and if manufacturers still honored warranties despite the presence of third-party parts. ☹️

I believe it takes around 10 cycles for the battery before you see longer flight times

I heard it from Dustin Dunnill he always reviews DJI drones he reviews pretty much everything about the drone i’m sure you could look him up. He has a storm trooper for his logo. and regarding the battery, he mentioned this a while back I believe it was for the Mavic 2 series

I've noticed that the Air 3 that I've been testing doesn't quite have the battery life of my Mavic 3. And they are both rated for 46 minutes, Just like the Air 2s it replaced, seems like the Air series doesn't get quite the stated battery life as the Mavic series. Excellent review.

Out of curiosity what was the reason for loosing 10% of the battery? I haven’t had it say 100 with many drones for long after take off but 99% is pretty normal.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  11 месяцев назад +1

A menagerie of possibilities, but the most likely was probably that I used it to fly or update or something earlier and forgot. I was down to two batteries at that point, so it was either pack up and go home to charge it the last 10-percent or just account for it when I accounted for the 10-percent safety buffer.

Yeah, that’s about right. I’m not going to cry over a drone that can still average ~30 minutes of flight time, but it is still disappointing overall.

none of you geeks worked out that these can carry extra battery weight easily... i fly my air 3 using two batterys... and get 66 minutes flight time.... do the math idiots... i`m expecting the `but that will weigh it down more than the extra battery gives in terms of more power required blah blah ........... k so putting a can of gas in a car makes u use more than the gas till ud need the gas ???? not the same ratios but u SHOULD GET THE POINT..... ``anyone with one.. grab the top of it whilst it hovers and try to simply twist it upside down.. u cannot.. that is the power of these things.,... so yes it easily carries extra battery....

Anyone reading this - please do not attempt to modify a DJI drone to run two batteries at once. Not only is it fucking dumb, it most definitely will void your warranty.
Or go ahead and run the risk of being associated with assclowns like this. Up to you.
