    Anyone else getting a strangely Ghibli-like vibe from this mushroom house? Seems like something Miyazaki would create. He had a fascination with European architecture and he loved putting an unusual spin on things. Great minds think alike. ^^

    7:50 Oak framed houses of that type are generally associated with the late 15th & 16th centuries, known in England as the "Tudor period" (Henry VII through to Elizabeth I). As far as I'm aware, many examples on the European continent (chiefly northern Europe) date from the same period.

    Half-timbered houses are my favourite type of buildings 🥰 -They often seem to have so much more character than other types :) I also like that most materials these are built from are reusable and renewable and can actually be recycled, non- toxic, too. You can literally take these buildings apart and rebuilt them completely somewhere else ^^ - and these actually do quite well in an earthquake (they aren't as rigid as regular buildings and sorta swing along with a quakes altitude, so there won't be any resonance catastrophes with these [remember Tacoma Bridge? Because the way that one collapsed is the essence of what a resonance catastrophe is]) and you might find them all over earth. Not only in France, but also in my homecountry Germany, as well as Britain, America, Turkey and even Japan :)
    BTW those little miniature roofs with those windows in are called "Gaube" in German (and dormer in English). It's also been pretty common to let the upper floors hang over the street, so your mushroom shape might be a bit extreme, but not completely impossible ^^' Oh, and those diagonals ("Strebe" in German, 'strut' in English, if I remember right) ARE actually important because these kind of post-and-beam-structures are doing well with forces that push down from above (like weight you put onto a structure) but not so much with those that come from the side like wind (or a car crashing into a wall), the struts help stabilizes the whole building, without making it too rigid :3

    • @macdieter23558
      @macdieter23558 4 года назад +3

      Additional information about the diagonal "Strebe": The triangle shape makes it much more stable. You see, a rectangle, pushed too hard on one corner, can deform into a parallelogram and still have the same measurements. A triangle can´t deform this way because one side would have to become longer or shorter. So those triangle shapes give a building a much higher rigidity!

    As a Dane, who used to show tourists around in one of Denmark's older towns (Randers), I can confirm that the diagonal supports were indeed necessary for the structure of the walls. It created a sturdier wooden base to build with and in turn created the classic look of our old houses.

    Hi Mark! It’s great to see your video today! I was just watching a couple in Chester, UK, walk through their town showing buildings like these, from the 13th and 14th centuries! Look up “The Rows”, or “Chester, UK” on Google Maps. Beautiful style. Love your interpretation and inspiration from Samuel Chamberlain.

  • @recoveringsoul755
    @recoveringsoul755 4 года назад

    I love the idea of a mushroom house and you got so much detail in such a small space. Seems like a lot of people could live there. and I thought it probably needs more support to hold up the mushroom cap, either diagonal supports from the base of the mushroom stem to the floor of the cap, like supports of an umbrella, or stilts. I think diagonal ones would look better. Really cool drawing and with the color it really comes alive.

    How do you know when to use one, two, or three point perspective?

    • @ookami5329
      @ookami5329 4 года назад

      To put it simply:
      1-point is for when you're looking at something dead-on (a room in a wall, or down a city street);
      2-point is when your looking at it from an angle (when the sides of things are not pointing towards you);
      3-point is the same as two point, except you're looking from above or below.
      to be honest, perspective is a hard technique to understand (took me several explanations for me to get it), and I think you just have to try it out a lot yourself to really get a feel for it
      Mark Crilley has a whole playlist on perspective here that can start you off: ruclips.net/p/PLBiW8y5LSHK425SYwHDIcLhXux8PfSzkw
