@priyadarshannag9782 Steve Clark wrote this song. Mutt Lange decided to trash the original that Steve had played on. It's on RUclips as Stand Up Demo. On that demo, you'll hear Steve and Phil playing together. In this one, Mutt made Phil redo all of Steve's parts. Phil stated that having to learn to play like Steve was very difficult, and took a long time. So sad. 😢
Def Leppard's best power ballad and seriously underrated. The Adrenalize album instantly transports me back to being a 7 or 8 year old kid in the early 90s. Granted this sound was already fading away fast by 1992/early 93 but at that age I had no idea and just liked it for what it was
This is one of the greatest rock ballads ever made. It’s a pity that at the time grunge dominated the radio so this song never really got the credit it deserved.

Just one of so MANY gifts the late genius Steven Maynard "The Riffmaster" Clark left this band. Steve has it all - live he dripped rock star genuine cool. As Viv says verbatim "90% of what we play Steve left us". Steve's gift remains incalculable !! This really is a beautiful guitar layered song, one of their best imo !!
Arguably their most underrated song! It's about time they threw this into a live set. Now's as good a time as any in Vegas as they're playing a lot of rarer stuff
Chris Winn agreed!! I love this song from the second I heard it I was raised in the 80s Def Leppard was and will always be the best group from that era!
Another good song from post 1990 Def Leppard. They were young in 1983 when they had a huge success with 1983's Pyromania album and Tour. Rick Allen was only 21 when after that Tour he received a big pay day and bought a Corvette which almost cost him his Life in the accident. He lost only an arm but for a drummer this likely lead to an increased risk for depression and suicide. However, Rick was able to deal with the situation which inspired many. In 1991, guitarist Steve Clark's inability to handle his situation(alcoholism and pill-popping) did cost him his Life(RIP). From 92's Adrenalize album on, DL began recording many more ballads and positive-vib songs which bordered on Christian Rock with song's like: Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad, Stand Up Kick Love into Motion , Two Steps Behind, When Love & Hate Collide, Miss You In A Heartbeat , Breathe A Sigh, We Belong, Good Bye , Long Long Way To Go , Promises , Now, Wings Of An Angel and Work It Out.
In an era when the Power Ballad had been beaten into the ground, this gem from Def Leppard proved that it could still be done well. Another timeless song...
To be fair, this wasn't a very good Leppard album. The only really classic song from it is White Lightning, other than that it was pretty bland and Let's Get Rocked is outright bad. This was the beginning of the end for Leppard when it came to writing good songs. Seems they couldn't do it without Clarke. :(
They didn't even play it live way back when it was their current single, which was a surprise and disappointment. I saw them just a few nights ago, and i was hoping... maybe, but no.
This song was composed to be included in the Hysteria album however they thougth the song was pretty seemed to Hysteria. So they took out Stand Up and later released it as a single.
Here it is, the beginning of 2022. A long time from when I was 18, and this song came out. That's right at three decades, ago. And, it still sounds better than anything being put out, today.... hands down. 'Nuff said.
In case anyone was wondering. The business man in the room high above Manhattan is Leps manager Peter Mensch and the guy hitting the balls up to him is the other half of the management team Cliff Burnstein. Video was shot in NYC on 10/26/92
Stand Up and Love and Affection are their most underrated songs. DL were geniuses at belting out ballads but it’s like the industry only wanted to promote their hard rock image so kept releasing more rock songs over ballads.
Radio ignored this song because they were too interested in playing Nirvana 24/7 and Jeremy by Pearl Jam. Good. This gem was never killed and we get to play it on our radio. Same thing with "have you ever needed someone so bad". I bought this tape cassette when it first came out and it was the last cassette I ever bought because CD's became the thing.
This was the first song I ever heard from Def Leppard when I was 12 years old. I fell in love with Def Leppard and I’m still in love 27 years later. Such good memories. ❤️❤️❤️
Better is subjective. I've heard the demo version and it's awesome but it screams 80's and wasn't unique like the one on the album. I love playing the solo on my guitar but copying Phil's pinch harmonic is next to impossible.
liquidSpin yeah I don't bother with the pinch harmonic. Stand up was the first song I ever properly learned now come to think of it. At the time Phil's solo was too hard for me to do so I learnt the demo one instead. That's probably why I prefer it it has that nostalgia to me as being my first solo
I actually met Phil and got to chat with him (He was kind enough to sign my Jackson PC1) I asked how he does his pinch harmonics on songs like Stand Up and All I want is Everything (outro solo) and he said practice and using a metal pick with thicker gauge strings helps with tone. I use 11 gauge strings but I never got used to using a metal pick and still use my dunlop ultex pick. All in all I can do the harmonic I just can't make it scream like his. Maybe one day with enough persistence haha
liquidSpin and that's always been the challenge when learning songs you love. You want them to sound exactly like the original. I've slaved over Steve's outro solo for photograph from the in the round trying to perfect every note. Drives me crazy
Memories of the summer of 1992 flood right back!! Who says you can't time travel? This was a great song, great album at a great time. It's amazing to me how well the music of DL has aged compared to other big bands of their era! 🤘
