I have watched a lot of videos by so-called experts and yours is head and shoulders above any thing I have seen before. A great help in replacing the fixings on our 1996 GTV 2.0 TS. Your location reminds me of our former home on the Dairyground Estate in Bramhall before we moved to Anglesey. We are just down the road from Tacla Taid Motor Museum in Newborough. You are always welcome to drop in if you are in the vicinity.
Hello Martin. Thank you for your kind words and I am glad you found the video useful. Anglesey is a place I have yet to visit, as is the Tacla Taid Motor Museum so I may take you up on that one day 👍🏼
Thanks for that Rick. I took my sill covers off, thats a bit of a pane. I don't know if you did a video of that? My sills had a lot of rust and needed a lot of welding. Thats all been done but I've lost the holes on the underneath, so the welding guy said use SS self tappers and washers. The sills are going to paint sprayers soon, but I have to do a couple of little repairs first to a couple of minor cracks, so this video is just what I needed as I was dreading it, but now I've seen the video, I'm more confident in putting them back on. So thanks very much.Your car is a gorgeous 😍 and is a tribute to you for the work you've done.
Cheers Rick, this is too timely for me as I'm in the process of removing the sill covers from my GTV. Have right one off and so far so good. Thanks for doing such as good job with the videos!
Great to see the car out of the garage, gee it looks good! I bet you must of lost your rag a few times working the confines of your garage! Can't wait til you take it for a drive with the new exhaust! Replaced the rear wheel bearings on my 916 twin spark today. Nice to have a quiet ride again! Cheers Steve
Hi Steve. Glad to hear you got the bearing sorted. The rears aren’t too bad but the fronts are a nightmare! And yes.....I’ve lost my temper a few times trying to work around the car in the garage haha. It certainly hasn’t been easy but I’m thankful that I don’t have to slave away on the driveway and dependant on the weather and daylight. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching 👍🏼
Really coming together Rick, looks great. I’m a little scared to take my cover sills off to be honest! Mine is a much older spider from 1995. But your work is inspiring me to go something similar to my V6. Keep up the great standards!
Thanks Mark. And don’t hold off inspecting your sills. For all you know you could be catching any potential issues in the early stages before it gets too costly. You may even get lucky and discover that your sills are spotless! 👍🏼
Hi Rick, thanks for the great video, I think it'll be really helpful to me quite soon (taking sills off). Really enjoying watching your build, All the best.
Another great video Rick. Always wondered how you lifted the car so high in your garage. I'll give that a go. Although with mine being a CUP I have to use the scissor jack first to get it started so I can get the trolley jack under. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Jules. You can either drive the front wheels up onto a couple of bricks or wooden blocks, or, if you have 2 jacks you can lift the car under the rear jacking point perfectly fine with enough clearance. A little bit of lift on the rear will enable you to get another Jack under the front. I hope this makes sense. Rick 👍🏼
Great video again Rick! 👍🏻 I had a nightmare with a few of those skirt grommets... snapped a couple trying to get them to twist! 😂 Watching you lower the car back on to the ground.... had me nervous again after nearly dropping mine. I invested in a pair of hyd ramps after... they are awesome. Drive on and 5min later the car is 40cm in the air! 😃
Hi Rob. Yes I’ve been looking at various alternatives for a more practical way to get the car up in the air. What type are you using? The large scissor lift ramp to lift the entire car or the small conventional drive-on wheel ramps which are flat to the floor like this.... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124676004702
Yes Rick..... mine are the drive on ones but hydraulic.... the link is below. cjautosheywood.co.uk/product/hydraulic-car-ramps-1350kg-capacity-cr012/ They are a fab piece of kit... I like you have a small garage so can only work on one end of the car at a time so these were ideal! 👍🏻
Shame I can't attach a picture... you could see them in use then! If I was going to buy then again... I'd buy the ones that lift straight up. These lift the car up and back by about 6in so you have to take that movement into account with the space you have! (If that makes sense.... 😂)
O how I miss my old gtv v6, mine was black too and I fitted gt blackline alloy wheels, a tan carpet and interior aswell as a cup rear spoiler front splitter and side skirts, I didn't bother with the side vents and it looked fantastic! Fitted quads aswell..... Was a beauty just had lots of issues and spent thousands but worth it...... just for the engine sound. My Current set up a guilietta as a daily, zoe spider for the weekend and autodelta turbo spider as garage queen. Might have to loose the zoe for another gtv v6
Sounds great. I too wouldn’t mind fitting the full Cup kit, however, like you, personally I wouldn’t fit the side vents because I simply don’t like them but that’s just personal taste. Thanks for showing an interest in my videos John, and for the comments. much appreciated 👍🏼
Just noticed your red floor mats that look pretty close to the original carpet. Mind sharing where you got those? I had some custom made, but the colour is way off and they look terrible. Yours seem to be quite close to the red on the carpet.
Love your videos, great stuff :) Do you have tips for disassembling the sill covers? seems there is little access for the lever tool. I'm afraid of cracking them.
Personally I just managed to pry them off using a plastic pry tool. Don’t be afraid to pull on them. Worst case scenario is you may snap a coupe of the plastic clips but that’s it. I managed to get mine off intact though
@@_RicksGarage thanks for your encouragement! I bought the professional hazet-tool, for I find the plastic tools like yours a little soft. as I am a garageworker too, I will wait until it is warmer, so that the car can warm up in the sun. will make it easier I think. I have to admit, what you do in your horrible narrow garage is astonishing!
When you removed the side skirts, how did you release the rusty screws on the under side? Did you have to chisel them off and did that result in the damage to one of the fixing points? I’m about to set about removing my side skirts and the cross-head in the screws is non-existent (totally rusted). Any suggestions would be welcome.
Great idea for getting the car so high but looking at that tyre whilst it was on the bricks made me cringe. You really need to find something that will allow the whole width of the tyre to sit on
On those tyres Rick best to replace all those pirelli p6000 tyres that's not a good tyre and very out of date. Get something really nice like goodyear f1 5s or Michelin PS4. You won't regret it.
Really helped me understand how the sills on my GTV are attached before I take them off. Tons of detail which is rare. Cheers!

RUclips brought me here to you, as an Alfa owner of various models for nearly 30 years. Your attention to detail has ticked all my boxes. Subscribed,
Thank you David. Welcome 👍🏼
Good insight not as bad a job as I first feared!! Thanks to you might even tackle it myself now many thanks scotty👍
Great to see the car out in the daylight. You are motivating me to crack on with my own GTV project. Thanks Rick!
Cheers Rick, this is too timely for me as I'm in the process of removing the sill covers from my GTV. Have right one off and so far so good. Thanks for doing such as good job with the videos!
Cracking stuff Rick, cheers. Will be removing my skirts and rust treating when the weather warms up a bit so this was really useful. 👍🏻
Great stuff Liam. It’s good to know this video is helpful to someone 👍🏼
Just about to take my cill covers off for a bit of a clean and tidy so this was ideal!

Rob you can email me no problem. My email address is in the description section attached to this video 👍🏼
14:56 I hope you considered to change those wheel bolts as well. The car definitively deserves it! :)
Very observant! Haha. Yes new bolts are on order 👍🏼
Good informative video as usual Rick. Thanks
How are you doing with the GTV Rik? Finished restoring mine and your videos were really useful.

@@_RicksGarage pictures of my gtv are on the squadra 916 forum project black edition, BTW great videos 👍
Thanks, cleared up a brain fog for me.

Just use a grinder or dremel with a cutting disc to cut a slot into the screw then use a flat screwdriver
Great idea for getting the car so high but looking at that tyre whilst it was on the bricks made me cringe.
You really need to find something that will allow the whole width of the tyre to sit on
Amazing how easy that is. impossible in my 147 GTA
Nice looking motor 😎👍
I appreciate it Jon. Thanks for viewing 👍🏼

Thanks for the tip
I'm here after spending the last 15 mins swearing at the side skirt lugs that won't line up with the body.
