    £5.5k is too much. I paid £1600 for my 99 Spider 2.0TS in January. Done the cambelt, thermostat, radiator and down pipe and a bit of cosmtic work. Eveything works, no missing trim bits, even the ash tray works!

    If it's never been welded and doesn't require any welding then it's a good base upon which to build a really nice spider from. Right now, with all the work needing doing it's a sub £1000 car though.

    Wasn't aware t.s spiders were at that level of value yet, maybe 2 -2500 might be ok but 5500 seems alot when it needs work aswell, hold out for another.

      They are not, despite the noise around them being appreciating classics. Parts availabity s becoming big problem and some part prices are getting silly. Faded red ones are particularly challenging becuase they look awful but require 1000s to sort. In the real world this is a 1.5K car. A pristine TS is £6k in the real world..

    £5,500 is a lot for that car, I was thinking mine with 55K on the clock, and in way better condition that that, might be worth that sort of money at a push if I put it up for sale in the Spring. That one's a £2K/£2.5K car at best.

    Price is too high
    I have a 2000 TS with 41k and it’s near perfect
    I would expect to get £5k max for mine

    I bought my Spider in July for less and it had the suspension & belts all sorted, a recent respray (& a good one). Recommissioned from SORN. Has needed a radiator and power steering hose. When I looked around a few similar to mine so £3.5k-£4k gets you a nicer example, get one of them instead.

    That's a £500 car. To bring that back will be at least £2500 and a minter can be had for £3k with a bit of patience. Bonkers.

    Purchased my 02 plate spider in 2015 for £2700 sold it in 2020 for £2375.
    It's a £3000 car maximum. My black spider had similar fading paint. Then the engine fan packed up and it was time to sell. Great looking car, not particularly quick.

    Those rear spring pans are renowned for rotting out from the top side, they get covered in dirt and rot out. If they fail the back end hits the road supposedly.

    There’s a sticker on the expansion tank that says “Do not add water Evans waterless coolant”. Could that explain the funny colour?
    As for £5.5k. Not of my money. Typical patched up 90s fare. Saveable but with a lot of time and effort.

    Answer is NO, add another 2k-3k and buy a Spider v6..
    I see were the prices are going in EU and it aint normal.
    These are still used cars, at the end you wil end at around 10k if you want to make it Look and run perfect.

    Neil, you forgot to check the area in the front wheeelhouse around the strut bearing. EVERY 916 rusts there ;-)

    Bit minty at that price but given how solid the car is hopefully it'll be a good long term investment on a personal note I was looking to buy a gtv around 5yrs ago but got an alfa gt cloverleaf for around the same price as a gtv which was a lot older and I absolutely love my gt it's amazing puts a big smile ☺ on my face everytime i drive it

    While in my view it isn't a £500 car it also isn't a 5K car (in the UK) at least. I've recently finished doing a full nut and bolt resto on a 1996 Ph 1 Spider and so have a inkling (as I'm sure Neil does) how much this car will cost to get it into a half decent state even doing it all yourself. You'll be into the thick end of £9K if you pay £5K for this, probably more if the sills are rusty under those covers.

    About 3.5k overpriced, sold mine (there’s a vid on this channel) for £3400 earlier this year and it was a hell of a lot better than this one.

    I don't know much about the Spider market, but it "feels" overpriced especially in today's market, however, very much worth sorting out. Neil could turn it into a very nice car.

    At that price, it reminds me of the Harry Enfield sketch; "I saw you coming". At 5.5k, I would be expecting much more. Price seems based on the fact it has new tyres and a stainless exhaust! Would have liked to see Neil prod a screwdriver into that heavy and new underseal on the front of the inner sills.

    Personally, I've never been convinced by the styling of the Spider (the GTV is more appealing to me) but I've never driven either. I'd love to hear thoughts on the Spider/GTV regarding everyday use and owner enjoyment/recommendations. Cheers

      I've had a GTV since early in the year it's a great drive every day its the 2.0 litre also ain't so bad with fuel round town it's also the best rare color noveu blue pearl....buy one..... you'll enjoy..

    Way…..too much money, but not a bad car by any stretch. The values of these and the 916 GTV are waiting. To skyrocket. But I think a couple more years before they do. If I sell my Alfasud next year, I may look for one, but it needs to be very good! It still astonishes me though, how the galvanised cars are completely betraying the rust myth 😂

      @@ItaliaAutos truly! That, to me, is a £1500 car at max. They don’t fetch big money unless V6. I’ve had maybe 4 Spiders now, I cannot recall paying more than £700 for either of them. Paintwork alone to get it sorted would be the best part of £1500 alone. Absolute avoid, total and utter waste of money. Better with a V6 for a little more.

    £5,000! £500 is more realistic for the amount of work it needs. It's a moneypit in the making. Could find another that doesn't need that much work for less.

    Car seems "Alfa" ok,?, but price also seems a litle high to me...what do I know...2-3 years ago I had the chance to buy a 2.0 turbo GTV here in Spain for 2000euro, and I didn't (disappointed on the test drive performance), oh how I wish I had now!!

    £5500! Your getting near V6 territory for that personally would save my money and hold out for one of them I’ve seen twin spark stunners for 3k ! That one is way overpriced !

    Maybe a bit steep. I paid 4000 euro (3500 pound) for a very decent 1997 2.0 TS with new clutch, no rust, perfect paint, and a dodgy roof. If the roof on this one would’ve been in good nick, I think 4000 would be a good price, considering that the paint/body needs quite a bit of work and that it has some mechanical issues.

    That's way too much money for a neglected toy. Refurbishing the original rear suspension alone will cost thousands and it will still be a 2 liter. For ten grand you could have a nice V6 instead.

    It seems a solid car without any major issues, needing just some light recommissioning and cosmetic work. If the asking price reflects that (I'm not from the UK, so I don't know how much these cars are worth there), it could be a good purchase. Lovely "phase 2" model, which is my favorite. Late Arese-built car too!

    Interesting view Neil.
    Fundamental stuff I get - paint fade etc, but small parking dents would be expected on a 25 year old car?
    It does seem priced optimistically for overall condition. Not sure how it compares to others on the market when you do the same level of appraisal?

    It is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but it is in rather good order and definitely worth saving. Those rusts are no big deal to be sorted out and all the fluid changes are pretty normal. Even clutch is a thing that anyway needs to be done in sometime. Paintwork and that stuff is perhaps the biggest thing to be sorted out, to get the car look good and balanced red. Now it looks like every panel is diffrent colour. If i could find a 916 with that small rust damages, i would buy it.

    Sooooo....around 20 k eventually....if he keeps it garaged in a dehumidified environment and uses it Sundays only....it's a money back or more in five years or so....it's a good deal, accepting if he has a wife he will have to take into consideration the constant updating of the kitchen and bathroom...pointless 😂😂😂
