Why isn’t this wonderfully talented man in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??? What an injustice! There would have been no Whisk ago go in the 60’s without this man!! People start a petition!! Now!! Thanks Johnny for all the joy you brought us!! Love you!
@@jamietaylor1402 thats exactly how i feel about it, sometime when I was young I remember hearing this song either on the radio or my dad played it and 40 years later im still listening to it
Thanks for this high spirited, heavy-hearted love song. I've always liked it and sing it at every jam and camp fire get together. Johnny has a clear voice and jubilant sound. This rendition will last as the very best, and you have to dig the harmonica!
Johnny's version of this song is the best for sure. Also, great job with the audio on this, it sounds fantastic! Thanks for putting this up, I love this song. (original - Harold Dorman)
Have always liked this song. My favorite J.Rivers song is Poor Side of Town, but I enjoy all his songs. Love listening to him play the guitar too. Born in 1955; heard songs on the radio as a child and young teen and so on.
I hear you sister borned in 55 also used to go to a place as a little kid when we cut enough grass or hauled hay in the summer or picked a little cotton in the fall called the economy ice cream parlor and ate chili dogs and put our change in a juke box a dime a song or 3 for a quarter for johnny rivers, roy Orbison and I can remember the artist right off hand but he sung juke box on a sawdust floor! DAMN I MISS THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS 👍

If johnny doesn't get in the hall of fame i know its rigged plus my mom would probably picket the hall of fame all 4ft7 of her shes a fan of old music and Johnny's rivers is one of her favorites...
R&R Hall of Fame doesn't care about talent. If you are in any way implicated in counter culture activity, especially antiwar sentiment from the '60s, they will fight you. They are very corporate. Violence (even against women), anger and alcohol are OK with them, but one joint of marijuana and they will never forget (unless you are the Beatles, Stones). K
I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the Rn'R Hall of Fame means absolutely nothing. not to me and I bet a lot of artist see it that way too. The Hall of Fame is a tourist attraction in Cleveland ,Oh. Fin.
@@lockedin60 I agree James, In my mind I see six or twelve people sitting around a big conference table, maybe once a month doing what ever it is they do without regard of what is right or just for the music fans ,the artists or the industry as a whole. It is all personal opinion with just a little bit of bias thrown in for good measure. And they get paid for that ! Sorry about the rant.
@@sandsoftime1954 No need to be sorry when you are typing the truth. The measure of an artist worth are the audiences who still show up at the artist shows. And maybe buy their albums even now whatever form that takes. I remember the generational gap when I used to listen to the Beatles. My parents didn't understand or care to listen. I am now my parents because a lot of today's music does nothing for me.
where can I find the stereo recording of this song? This one is in monoural. I know that they made one because my mom has the original stereo recording one on a 45

ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME CANDIDATE FOR SURE 2024.
Put JOHNNY RIVERS in the Hall of Fame right now
I haven't listened to this in a while. It's pretty darned great. Johnny Rivers deserves to be better remembered.
I've only just rediscovered Johnny Rivers since my childhood. He's a legend.
So good. Musician, composer, and great singger. Should be recognized more than he is.
An iconic voice from a time where music mattered. And the harmonica ain't bad neither.

Charlie's version or Jonny's? I have no idea, five cans thru a six pack of Gennesy! What say ya'll?
You hit the word to describe his style.. Jubilant.
@@alanwilson3821 Genesee is the beer you're talking about. Are you from Western NY State?
How many people coveted it. I thought there were only two, Johnny's and the original but Harold Dorman.
Johnny Rivers; the world's most successful cover singer.
He was so great and so underated!
I defy anyone to listen to this and stay absolutely still...can't be done.
Absolutely! That was funny
So many great memories. So glad I was born in this time. ❤😊

Voelen Dank für die wunderschöne Musik
1964: Harold Dorman, Johnny Rivers and Charley Pride have all had big hits with this one. They're all good.
Johnny Rivers: one foot in the 50's, two feet in the sixties; so ahead of his time, I doubt if he even knew it...
Amazing, wonderful, this man is awesome love Johnny Rivers
Supercool cat.Class act.

1964 A GREAT YEAR in 🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶
Standing on a mountain looking down on a city
The way I feel is a doggone pity
Teardrops fallin' down a mountainside
Many times I've been here, many times I've cried
We used to be so happy when we were in love
High on a mountain of love
Night after night I'm a-standing here alone
Weepin' my heart out till cold gray dawn
Prayin' that you're lonely and you come here too
Hoping just by chance that I'll get a glimpse of you
Tryin' hard to find you, somewhere up above
High on a mountain of love
A mountain of love, a mountain of love, you should be ashamed
We used to be a mountain of love
But you just changed your name
Way down below there's a half a million people
Somewhere there's a church with a big tall steeple
Inside a church there's an altar filled with flowers
Wedding bells are ringin' and they shoulda been ours
That's why I'm so lonely, my dreams gone above
High on a mountain of love
A mountain of love, a mountain of love, you should be ashamed now
Used to be a mountain of love
But you just changed your name
Way down below there's a half a million people
Somewhere there's a church with a big tall steeple
Inside a church there's an altar filled with flowers
Wedding bells are ringin' that shoulda been ours
That's why I'm so lonely, dream gone above
High on a mountain of love
High on a mountain of love
High on a mountain of love
High on a mountain of love
High on a mountain of love

Playing little political games. I think the more legitimate hall of fame is the Musician's Hall of Fame.
