I'm not too knowledgeable in car audio; I took some basic electrical classes in avionics. In my experience I think it depends on your application; my amp is rated @ 1000w. I installed a 2F cap and its eliminated the slight headlight dimming issue when kick drums hit. So far its been working just fine, but I'm willing to let the $40 go to waste to learn not to use these caps if I fell for the scam and do it right the second time.
Better off getting a small power cell than a cap IMO. I was able to run a 2500watt rms system in a stock Honda civic with only a big3 upgrade and a small power cell by the amplifier. It had the stock alternator still and didn’t have no dimming, no issues of any kind.
My question is when should you go with batteries over capacitors or capacitors over batteries? Pros and cons to each and the appropriate time for one or the other.
@@cuh_2023 Anything small in size is going to be useless if you're draining it expeditiously without replenishing it equally (if not more) fast than it's being taken. Your gas tank would be useless if it was only 1 gallon and your fuel line was the size of a garden hose and didn't fill it every 5 minutes. Same principle applies to caps... The smaller they are, the easier they are to drain, especially without charging them properly, but that's not to say they're "useless". 🤦🏻♂️
I've been trying to tell people this for years. It's like talking to a brick wall most of the time though. A quick Google search will show you what gives a capacitor it's "capacitance". And people don't understand the math that it takes 1 farad to equal 1 volt and 1000 farads is equal to 2.7 volts. So if you have lets say have 1500 watts total system for example you're actually not getting no activity after that first discharge. Added to that the recharge time is slow due to that cheap dielectric core. Can't believe people still buy that crap.. Good job JP!!
Though I do agree with most of what you are saying you are missing some issues. Not everyone upgrades their audio system to thump bass down the road, but are looking to go above their alternator's rated tolerance. In newer cars if your headlights are dimming you are effecting other electronic components as well. Something is better than nothing. I would never suggest a 1 farad, but telling someone to spend that much money on an electrical system upgrade or super/ultra cap for small stereo applications is overkill as well. Though it does seem like you cannot find any middle ground products these days. Just my thoughts.
So I just canceled my order on Amazon.. Thank you for the video because I was also under the impression that you actually got at least 3/4 of the size of that cylinder was the capacitor and omg those aluminum strips wtf
I know super capacitors works well in car audio systems. But I would like to know what's the wattage handling of your capacitor banks? I have (4) CAB-22 amplifiers running at a 1-ohm load.
capacitors need to be able to output peak draw of the amps while alternator and battery need to handle RMS (Root Mean Square) power. How many farads you need depends on the system and the song. People tend to go bigger then the absolutely need so they don't run into a song with a long sustained low bass note that fully drains their caps.
