In the beginning of the video, why do you call the IR feature a Thermal Pod?? I'm assuming that it isn't actually a pod like a TGP, but rather a suite of stitched camera feeds and digital zooms?
its honestly one of the coolest features of this game i wish more vr games would do something like it it automatically lets you record it or stream through discord and you can have 3rd person footage or even have it follow missiles/bombs
Incase you don't know yet, what happened at the end was you got too close to the enemy air base and the server popped your canopy and killed your engines.

I can't believe there's no mention of this Chase being the same Chase that broke into the AH-94 private lobby in that older video. Drewski, it looked like you were twisting the stick when taxiing/vlogging-- if you didn't know, you can use rudder pedals from your regular sim setup in VTOL.
Or you could just use BYO Joystick and with it your full HOTAS setup. I basically have to with my Pico 4, or I'll be doing all sorts of unintended maneuvers.
This is my first time watching an OpDrewski video, and oh man! The casual display of piloting skill is quite humbling. As someone who spent some time in VTOLVR, and gave up because I didn't think I'd ever get the hang of the basic flight controls, bravo for that ridge hugging!
IIRC the EOTS housing in the F-35 is made of sapphire, which is transparent to both IR, near IR, and visible light. It also allows lasers to pass through it for targeting.
Chase's dedicated server is actually the ONLY dedicated server. Chase wrote his own code to run the lobby without being in game. he also doesn't release the code. you can't get it, and the Developers haven't released dedicated servers. I can only hope this changes because I want to run a dedicated server.
The general consensus right now is that giving people open access to dedicated servers would be a bad idea as the community is too small, and having too many dedicated servers would spread all the players too thin across all servers
Yea thats why i say boycott chase, he is super toxic and super ego driven. If you reach out to him he berates you and will even go on to threaten banning you since he is close with the dev. Its insane
Seeing videos like this is why I miss playing VTOL on the regular... This is EXACTLY the kinder server I would love to vibe in. I am a, loosely used term, OKAY pilot. I feel this is a server to really hone in your PVP and general BVR skills. Fantastic video! Might have to pull out my VR and find this server
More VR games need to add full cockpits like this. It's so incredibly immersive. Back when this game had dynamic day night cycles and I saw the sun coming up over the horizon on my way back to the carrier it brought a tear to my eye, I was so in it.

This is incredible, it's a refreshing take on a game that itself is a refreshing take on mil-sim. I don't think game devs in studios like this get enough credit for the work they do.
This makes me want to pick up VTOL VR so much more. Before, I was just like "it's a cool game, but I don't feel like there's much specifically for me to do." This server provides me with a goal, which is exactly what I need.
A good thing you can do in the F45 is to lock someone on the tsd, then slave the EOTS onto them, if you manage to get a lock with the eots, it is essentially an unbreakable radar lock that you can use to shoot planes accurately without ever turning your radar on.
Yo drewski! I started playing VTOL a bit after I saw your T55 video. I've been loving the ranked server lately. I usually play the T55 with only 2x aim 9e, or the EF24 with a pile of aim 120d.
Yo drewski. Use the beta for VTOL. It has dynamic weather, clouds, radio unicom, and an updated navigation system. Also, the Kestrel cockpit was completely overhauled, and every plane has that little box with the 9 number buttons for radio and stuff now.
FLIR(forward looking infra red) windows on our LANTIRN pods(F-14/-15/-16) was orange, kind of like frozen orange juice concentrate, opaque but with a kind of depth..... Not sure if they were germanium though. Difficult to find specs for that window. They seemed orange the whole way through when they were broken, iirc. IT was 20 years ago though, eh, memory could be off. IIRC, they were radioactive if broken, so bird strikes or maintenance fuckups were sort of a big deal.
The lens elements are probably germanium (Ge). Windows for the pod it self is probably either zinc sulfide (ZnS) or zinc selenium (ZnSe) as they will be transparent through all spectrums including visible (with some tinting, but correctable). They will also probably have diamond like coating (DLC) and a type of anti reflective coating (AR) for improved durability and performance. 🤓How is that for nerding out🤓

thermal cooled gimbal lenses on planes like that - starfire and all - are usually saphire lenses- germanium is used for less advanced / uncooled thermal sensors in most cases.

At the end you lost engines and canopy because you got too close to the enemy base. It's to prevent spawn camping them. Also, in the 45, it should really be flown not using radar at all if possible. Cam lock will guide 120s. Radar gives away your location. Also keep in mind that any external missiles/ pylons negate stealth. When at closer range they should be ejected. Also, if you eject or crash with enemy near, you take huge elo losses, sometimes even if you eject after being hit but the plane is still sort of flying.
Could you try nuclear option? It's a futuristic flight sim less complicated than dcs and others and has some arcade aspects, it's really underrated but it's very early access. In two of the modes you can play you literally can go a whole day just on a single match

Just played on the server, it had 12 people online and I can really recommend it. The people on there were very nice aswell
