Excellent review Clayton! I’ve owned several different trucks and RVs and love your highlights, and cautions for everyone carefully review the specs, payloads, and capabilities of their (1/2 ton) trucks. I really like how in this video you speak to the trailer DNA items. My wife and I love your videos and look forward to the next one.
I'm happy to see him say, if you have the right half ton truck. So many dealers never mention anything like this. What is the problem? Buyer beware of these reported half ton towable fifth wheel trailers. There are two parameters that must be met: tow capacity and payload capacity. I have seen very few dealers who will talk about payload capacity. They tell you that your truck is capable of towing something like 9600 lbs, or so, and you can tow this easily as it only weighs around 7000 lbs, or so. But you seriously need to also look at the payload capacity. This is written on the driver’s door pillar and is set for each individual truck as it comes off the line. Do not use brochure numbers. In my truck, the payload capacity was 1600 lbs. Then you have to subtrack these weights: King Pin weight (~1200 lbs.), fifth wheel hitch weight (~200 lbs.), 15% - 20% of the cargo weight in the trailer ( include battery, propane and cargo), cargo in the tow vehicle ( you and other individuals, pets, and all cargo, not just that in the bed ). You are over payload pretty quick. Don’t pay attention to people who post that they tow their trailer just fine. It is not about tow capacity. It is about payload capacity. It is like bending a paper clip. It won’t break on the first bend but it will eventually break. So will something in your truck: tires, bearings, suspension, etc. If you are unfrotunate enough to have sone one hurt and the lawyers get involved, you might lose your house and all your savings. How can then the dealer report fifth wheel towable? There are some, but very few, half ton trucks that are built with a special heavy duty package. These are very special order units. Look at the payload capacity on you driver door pillar and stay safe.
This is a good salesmen as he mentioned the key factor: PAYLOAD. The only “right” 1/2 ton for this fifth wheel would be a F-150 Regular Cab XL 2WD with HDPP option and Max Tow Package, which has a sticker payload close to 3,000 lbs. In reality, no one will get an F-150 in that configuration. Many people would like a Lariat SuperCrew Cab with 5.5’ bed, which has a pathetic 1,200-1,700 lbs payload capacity.
New 2019 f150 payload is 2400 lbs baby. 3.5 eco boost. Looks like I’ll be buying this.
I didn't see anything I don't like. I know in that 25 - 27ft range, some companies will claim " Half-ton towable". But to be honest, I'm not sure I'd even consider a 5th wheel without a step -up to an HD model truck of some kind.
You'll never regret having a towing vehicle bigger than you need, but you might really regret the other way round.
I really like the floor plan, but we are about 5 years away from being able to do something like this full-time ( ish ), but I think a 5th wheel like that would be an ideal set up.
Nice
WaaaH
Too much time on the the exterior.... here in the US the woman makes the final decision. Plus I am the one who writes the checks for the boy toys. Jeered go have a jelily eh
NEED ONE WITH AT LEAST AN OUTSIDE FRIDGE
You guys spent way too much time on the outside and not enough time on the inside the inside is the most important
Isn't there a floor duct in the floor in the bedroom?
Do you know of any modern 5th wheels like this in this size with bunks?
ok!
Loves these, but you spent way too much time on the outside. I skipped over much of it to get to the inside.
Any other new grand design reflection models coming out this year?
stuwardw, great question! At the moment, every floor plan GD has available for 2019 is on their website. Presently we are unaware of any other potential floor plan additions for 2019. Thanks for your question.😀
O.K.?
