What I like about these videos is they are giving you tips, they are not just advertising balance tone reeds, these Tips are really in depth they have helped me a lot
I was having a hell of a time with my drone reeds, during a recent competition in S.C.,my drone reeds started acting up,actually before this, double toning, not coming in,and cutting out,I tore my pipes apart that weekend after our comp.,and looked for anything wrong with my pipes, found nothing, long story short,I asked around the web for solutions, and four or five pipers recommended Balance Tone Drone Reeds, they were SUPER easy to install, and are awesome reeds, strike in EVERY single time,no double toning,no cutting off,no issues at all,and they sound great in my 14 year old McCallum's,I urge anyone with drone reed issues to get a set of these, you won't be sorry.....
This guy really knows how to explain the dynamics of sound. I play the Cello and the Flute, I have been around many teachers and trainers, this guy is a good one.
It’s old timers like you that keep it real for Pipers that are upcoming. Too often we see young pipers being misled and even after years of playing still don’t get it right because they hadn’t learned the basics and this is mostly due to their teachers.
Thanks, Bruce, I've always had my pipes set up so I don't need to strike them to start the drones, but I always thought that was wrong since everyone else seems to strike them in. I'm glad to see you not striking them in one of these examples. I'm going to stick with no-strike. I use your reeds, so no reason to change what ain't broke :)
how do you do to strike brrrrrr and then keep a steady drone chanterless sound? for example lets say you want to play steam train to mallaig and that your drones can go brrrrrrrmmmmmmmm and wait a bit for the chanter? i cant do it. my pipes strike in and much before the drones are cleanly stablished my chanter comes on.

I guess I’ll be buying balance tone reeds :)
the start without using right hand produces a momentary squeal before drones go solid; a sure way to keep a grade 4 band in grade 4.

Luis the piper I would use a harder chanter reed. From what you are saying, it sounds like you’re chanter reed is too soft.
reminiscence of Godfather to that faithful..... it says it all
My drones shut off if I strike in !
