Lyrics:
People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
Alright, yeah
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

A Canadian "folk-bluegrass" band in 2022 covering an Acid-Psychedelic-Meditation-Rock Band from 1970s Los Angeles. And beautifully. Musicians are amazing.
They also do "House of the Rising Sun"
And dad jokes
1960s Los Angeles
People are strange
Just called psychedelic rock bruh, it is a pretty big genre 😂😂
I love The Dead South and all of their music. Coincidentally I am now obsessed with the banjo. More albums please!!
❤
Yes. Their Banjo is so sick.
Have you listened to poor man's poison? They're good too
Tune your B string down a half step. Thank me later
@@k1ll8oi62😂
I love that the "special effects" for this video look like they had a budget of $8. It doesn't need anything extra. It perfectly gets the point across and has a pleasingly quaint aesthetic to it.
Love the band, not the director of this music video. Cutting to the bassist like he's playing a power chord just makes me roll my eyes, 1:03. In Hell I'll Be in Good Company was a simple and amazing music video, this looked like it tried to hard and not enough at the same time.
@@derekworley7515 ok?
I listened to this song without watching the video, then caught a glimpse of the banjo UFO and had to share it with all of my friends
Less is more.
Hmmm, It wasn't bad, just different? Idk, I'm no musician, but It didn't conjure up Jim Morrison for me, just my opinion. I agree with @Derek worley that it looked like they tried too hard and not enough at the same time. I do like The Violent's cover of this song better (For inquiring minds "The Violent" are a new venture by Mike Protich, Dave McGarry & Pat Gerasia from "Red Sun Rising") It's heavy on electronics and a bit darker, too, but was how the lyrics always felt to me. Again, jmo. In case anyone wants to check it out...

“My Sunshine” is my favorite song! And the banjos too!❤😂🎉
The Dead South brought me into a whole other genre of music I did not even know I Liked. Now, one of my Favorite bands
Then you should check out the Colter Wall EP Imaginary Appalachia if you get a chance. It's hard to believe some of the best bluegrass and country blues type music is now coming out of Canada, but it honestly is.
@@kevinpotts123 Thanks for the recommendation I will certainty check that out!
@@keiththornton3977 I assure you,, you will be glad you did.
@@kevinpotts123 You see were not all Eskimos up here in the great white north
@@roguewarr4662 I actually now live in Kentucky and can go see a bluegrass show pretty much every weekend during the summers here, yet my favorite bands come from Saskatchewan.
Man.... I randomly found these guys on RUclips.... and I'M HOOKED ON THEIR SOUND
Same
Yup!
same
Yup first found Good Company and then Banjo Odyssey.
aaaand hooked.
I randomly found them on Spotify yesterday, and now I am hooked. 😊
Space Banjo is my favorite genre of music
It’s faithful to the original, but yet they make it all their own. Absolutely beautiful.
I dont always listen to the Dead South cover the doors, but when I do... so do my neighbors
Brilliant. That made me laugh out loud (quietly to myself so my neighbours wouldn't complain).
Well fuckin played lmao
Yep, it's their new favorite song-they just haven't realized it yet :)
I'm not sure I'm a fan!
I like your original stuff!
Never was into bluegrass until you gentlemen came around. Thank you for opening my eyes to how great this music really is.
You were always into bluegrass, you just didn't know it haha
If you hadn't already heard of them, I recommend Iron Horse. They do Metallica songs better than Metallica.
I don't care what you call this; it's amazing.
I miss typed Dead Kennedys, and now I guess I like bluegrass.
Once you get past how everybody makes fun of hillbilly accents and banjos these days, you realize this is some of the best music around if you're in to family, country living and even gospel. Religion was big in the hills. There is more to it than those things but musical talent shines regardless of the genre
I love how much fun these guys have in all their videos. They genuinely look like they are enjoying every moment
And here I was, thinking this song couldn't get any better. Thanks for proving me wrong, The Dead South!
It loses the original vibe imo. Much flashier/more pop sounding vs the original which was darker and more mysterious sounding
Awesome. Great cover of my favorite Doors song. Jim Morrison was right . People really are strange. Jim Morrison didn't do a lot of drugs. He did a LOT of drugs.
This is nowhere near the original. The singer here is ok but not unique, special and great like Jim
Nowhere near as good and adds nothing at all
The Dead South is one of the best things that's ever come out of Canada.
Rush
@@j.t.johnson1192 boo.
Ahhhthat would explain why they got rid of Canada first.
Sorry.
they had to do something to make up for justin beiber
I will always remember your name. The fantastic 4 from Canada, also known as The Dead South.
Wait they're from Canada? Damn, I didn't know I could like them more than I already did, guess I was wrong
Oh wow!! Doubly impressed!! 🇨🇦
Wait there from Canada NO SHIT 😂
@@FIRSTNAMELASTNAME-zt4kf I loved them before I knew! 💖
Regina Sask to be exact!!
I was 15 when the Doors came out with this song and now 55 years later another great version.
Echo and the bunnymen did it better.
@@Lumotaku No. I've just checked it out.
The Doors were a brainwashing psyop, exploring the ability of music to move people in particular mental directions
its why morrison got so drunk on power
he knew exactly what he was doing , or rather, being used to do.
The best cover I ever heard
@@ФедорЕремин-э8к And you found echo and the bunny men did it better because this version sucks
i love the sheer goofiness of this video
I've had a love/hate relationship with this song since I went in the Navy. In military service your last name becomes your name and I had this song sung to me at least once every day by people who couldnt sing. The worst part was the self-satisfied laugh afterwards because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was certain they were the first to think of it. Still, great version of a classic. Kudos
You could have been stuck with mine.
Man, you should've been a doctor!
Dont feel bad or alone...... my name is Roxanne!!! I feel ya!
Should have gone to medical school instead.
People also seem to think they are the first ones to think of the "Dr. Strange" angle, too.
I love how simple their videos are, yet their music always feels unique
Exactly what I expected. A great song performed by a great band. I love it. 👍
Yes. The Doors
Exactly. I love the doors and generally I think I love good music, and the dead south has been on my radar for 3 year now and I love'em. Sorry about Mr. Orange by the way.
Did a good version of the doors
@@TinS0lder why am i Mr. pink???
They missed the necessary doors to unlock the infinite perceptions
this has to be one of the best and unexpected covers I've heard in a while. this isn't a cover we wanted, this is a cover we needed.
Love the Dead South but am I the only one who thinks this further goes to show just how powerful a voice Jim had when singing this number
U r not alone👽
All kidding aside...Jimbo had the voice of an 😇 💓
All you had to say was "I love The Doors"
The Doors have been a long time favorite of mine, and I absolutely love this cover. I found The Dead South a while back with In Hell I'll Be in Good Company, so glad I did! You guys are awesome!
^ same such a great cover right!
And same here. Other bands similar? Slim Cessna's Auto Club and The Devil Makes Three and Big Harp. Anyone else?
Good cover
@@rudimol4045 I will check these out! Thanks!!
I love the doors music but ol' Jimmy was a very strange bird
I'm a massive Doors fan, well done with what you've done with the cover - you sang it in the original intended way but put your own twist and character on it without fundamentally changing the track 👍👍👍
Totally. Yep Linda Perry eat ya heart out
I'm with y'all. That was excellent .
You were able to articulate exactly how I feel about their cover. Daps all around.
Yeah but that Electric Guitar in the doors version is a thing to behold ..
You took the words that were floating around my head and arranged them perfectly! Much obliged, Michael!
This was one of my favorite songs to sing back in the sixties when I lost my father
This is, hands down, my favorite song by the Doors. This cover keeps the feel of the original song, which is important to me. I’ll be checking out this band’s other Doors covers. ❤️
My favorite tune by The Doors too. Nice rendition tho’..
Crystal Ship.
Moonlight drive
Great job on recording Jim Morrison's song with the Doors. Kudos to Dead South .what a great way to Pay Jim tribute
BLOWN AWAY!! Y'all just keep digging deeper into all my playlists. Y'all are officially in my favorites forever........ y'all had me a while back, for whatever that's worth.
Just saw them live yesterday! They were soooo amazing!!!
Check out the Big Push! "Wade in the Water" is a good one to introduce them. Buskars from the UK. Awesome
Fantastic the dead south are great
Thank you to The Dead South for all the strange looks I get from city folk as I’m driving through town!
This band rocks!
Love their rendition of this song!
I usually hate remakes of movies, and especially music, but what talent these guys have!!
Truely exceptional
This isn't any better than any other crappy cover song. I feel it's disrespectful to the Doors, Jim Morrison, everything. I'm physically disgusted by it.
Shit, best and most unexpected cover of this song ever.
No one expected a banjo.
Right?!? Thinking it's sacrilegious then mind blown!!
Have you heard the cover by The Violent. It takes a bit to adjust, but then... boom.
Thank you Sir. Appreciated. 🇨🇦
Just a few years ago I was the only person I knew that listened to this band. Now they get a quarter million views in a day. On a Cover. Goddamn y'all have blown up
They deserve it
This sound production is outstanding too. The sound of the instruments and vocals is absolutely beautiful. That's part of their beautiful sound. They have a hell of a sound editor, mixer, producer, microphones, etc. Wow. There's a depth and clarity to this that is amazing.
Me too
I'm Spartacus!
Have loved this band for years and the fact these guys are covering People are Strange from The Doors... Cool mashup✊👍
No drums, no fake synthesizers, no beeps, no deep dubs just good ol’ strings a beat and easy voices, love these guys!
Once this song gets in your head it’s impossible to get it out. You start to whistle the rest of the day.
i never thought the best cover of this song would be with a banjo and acoustic guitar
I am a 65 yo AUSSIE from Albury NSW since I discovered TDS luv them big their music makes me feel like a teenager I cannot stop my feet We now have a new Fab Four
One of my favorite bands 🤘🏻
LOVE IT!!!!! 😍 💛♥️💙
The world needs more big budget videos like this.
🤣🎉🤣 Impressive without a big budget
Yeah 😂😂😂😂
and doing doors covers, somehow it works...
Ha !
im old.. you should have seen the videos on MTV in the 80s... yeah.. thats what this reminded me of.. nice nostalgia
This was a great cover and I'm a huge Doors fan, and for The Dead South to capture the feeling of the song and play it in their own style, yes this was a great cover.
Bravo Jimmy Morrison, bravo The Doors, bravo The Dead South!
Facts
thank you Beautiful Dead South
i smashed my own window so they could lesson better!
I started playing guitar a few months ago and this was the first song I have learnt. RIP Jim.
I have learned is correct, though you're right that the I should be capitalized...
first time hearing this one, it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm blasting the hell out it, best remake of a song in a decade, perfectly modernized with a southern twist, excellent job guys!
Wonderful ! I love this group.
This is the best...I love it
Omg I've never heard these guys. I love bluegrass/old country stuff. Was gonna click off.....but then old boy started singing.
Holy shit. Hella game changer. Keep rocking. Y'all got talent.
Edited to add that I love the sci fi aspect of your video
I freaking love them! And I am PUNK!
This just goes to show how everlasting the lyrics od the original Doors song are. Great rendition!
yea, we wer strange in th 60s. now wer gtn stranger thn evr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@lauranovak8407 And the spelling isn't getting any better either.
Another excellent cover. It seems to me that most bands who have covered this song have treated it with respect, perhaps because of respect for The Doors generally; the cover by Echo & The Bunnymen is outstanding in that way.
Everything comes back around and some are classics that stick around forever.
Almost a million views in five days. This is going to murder in "hell I'll be in good company". So happy for these guys, I love everything they do!
...
Fantastic! One of the best covers I have ever heard.
You have a Wonderful gift. Thank You for Creating this channel and sharing your gift with the world!
From Susan in Michigan USA ❤
Hello. How are you doing? Nice meeting you here
Jim Morrison somewhat defined my teenage years (mostly with his poems), and I would have never thought I will say a cover is better than the original.
Then you folks came along.
When I was a teen I went to a bookstore and bought a double disc set of the Doors greatest hits and a book by A.A. Attanasio called Wyvern. Now both the book and the band are inextricably connected in my mind.
Your opinion is garbage like this crappy cover
You're straight up naive if you really think that. This was horrible!!!
Wow, this band did something I didn't think possible - they covered a Doors song and I didn't think: mistake ...never try to cover some bands (like the Doors) because they just did it too well. But these guys not only did a Doors cover, they made it their own!
Awesome!
When you put it like that it makes me wonder if there's ever been a solid Pink Floyd cover?
Heck, these instruments lend themselves to this song VERY well, did not see that coming. Good job!
When my wife and I first heard your music, we basically couldn’t stop listening. Then you came to Cleveland and we saw you live. We both weren’t exactly fans of the genre of music but uhm…. Now we are! Thank you so much for being awesome!!
1:50 He's driving in reverse, lol!
👉Strange👈, isn't it.....?
When I build my spaceship it's gonna look like a banjo.....pure perfection
Thank you for doing this song! And so extremely well! Love this!❤
A great song performed by a great band. I love it.
Love you….and Jimmy Driftwood!! Both legends…..
I am so glad y’all are still together and making awesome music!!
Maravilhoso!!! A cereja do bolo é o maluco dirigindo em marcha a ré (alguém notou?). Seria um defeito especial? Ou espacial. 😂😂😂😂
So cool! Amazing.
I learned this song when I was 13. The Doors forever!
When I was a kid I was exposed to "Duelling Banjoes" and swore Id never listen to another banjo song again. You guys broke the curse and changed my mind. I no longer fear the banjo! Thank you!
I'm not gonna cite Dueling Banjos as some kind of masterpiece.. and I rarely hear banjo music.. more in movies or clicking a video like this.. But I don't think Dueling Banjos was enough to evoke spoken allegiance to abstain from an entire genre of music. But, you do you. Then again.. Adele's music makes me want to murder.
One of the best covers I’ve heard in a while
Phenomenal. Never doubted it for a second.
Love the dead South
I am intrigued and excited ... regards from Mexico City....
Have to see these guys next time they are at home in Regina, Canada 🇨🇦
This is one of those naturally 'spooky' songs. It needs no embellishment. The Dead South, which I've known about for a whole 2 days, are a perfect match. Great work! and a fun vid to boot!!
Absolutely Loved The Doors, and it´s been a long time since I felt so exited I snaped both hands, and whistled in sync with the music- that was the "in hell I´ll be in good company" song. Then I found this, and now I´m caught- hook, line and sinker! Looove you guys!

This has always been one of my favorite songs. I love this version, you guys did an awesome job.
Dear God. I just found out about these guys. Their covers give me chills. I love this shit!
Same here!!!!!!!!!!🔥🤟🏽❤️
This song has been one my faves for many a year. I was nervous, couldn't see how The Dead South with their sound and this song would meld. Don't know why I worried so, of course they were able to pull it off. This was awesome.
Is this where I tell you again that I'm always a gun moll for Halloween?❤️
Hello. How are you doing? Nice meeting you here
I listen to The Dead South practically every day. I think they may just be my spirit animal.
Honestly...what an amazing cover of sn already amazing song, love the dead south
You know a song is absolute FIRE when the only spike on the skip timeline is the beginning of the song. Great cover as always from The Dead South. :)
Qué maestros son ustedes! ❣️
I don't usually like covers, i think it stifles creativity, but with this song you guys have managed to put your own twist in it without diverting too far from the original, and i think it's amazing. Keep up the good work.
this guy! I like this guy.
Creativity isn't limited !
You can have flash of creativity on things people have done.
It depends on how you work as an artist, Picasso said "Good artists copy; great artists steal.".
Being great is stealing from great without lowering the level and even try to be better !
Don't act like most of our favorite songs are really inspired by older songs we don't know for most of them !
Sorry if i my english is not perfect i tried my best !
Coming from me, a relative (cousin) of Raymond Manzerek, keyboardist of The Doors, I approve of how you portrayed the lyrics and instrumental of the song. Killer job!!! I've been following you for a while now and you guy have me hooked!🤘
The young Dead South ~
Ye have surely climbed the rope ladder of noire victory with this comment. *Laudate!*
Wow, that's Amazing that he was your cousin! The Doors were just Unlike Any other bands and will continue to attract fans for Many generations to come.🎤🎵
@@sunnybunny8775 you're right. They had a very unique style and sound. To me, Pink Floyd had a similar feel with some of their less-wierd stuff.
@@jeffduncan9140 I Absolutely Love Pink Floyd too. I'm what I like to call an "old soul" when it comes to music, because alot of bands I like were way before my time, but I Do have very eclectic taste in music, and appreciate several styles and genres of different bands. 🙃
If Anthony Zaleski was actually a cousin of Ray Manzarek you would think he should be able to spell his name correctly. Ray chose to spell his last name as Manzarek but it really was spelled Manczarek. Ray dropped the letter c to make pronunciation easier.
HELL YEAH ! My favorite song from the Doors. You guys nailed it . Great job and thanks.
Reminds me of one of the journey album covers that most of my life i just seen space ships and just a year ago I noticed they were also upside down guitars. I was mind blown because I had studied the art of that album closley since my youth.
Wonderful rendition.
Love your bluegrass fusion.

My best Halloween costume was probably a drawer! I dressed up as a drawer, opened my cabinets and people put candy in! 🤷♂️
Love you guys!
I'll bet you racked up
Good Saskatchewan boys!! Friend of mine hired them 5+ years ago and they played for 25-30 of us at a private party in Moose Jaw. Doesn’t surprise me at all they’ve “made it”. Deadly cover tune too by the way!
Amazing take upon the o.g and I I think it's a banger
Love The Doors. Love this song. And I love the new version I just heard. Thank you to The Dead South for bringing originality back to the music industry. Originality, even when doing covers. Something only real talent can achieve. Amazing.
This was already my favorite song now it is even more so.
I'm pretty touched that you didn't forget my birthday guys! The best present ever. My favourite band playing my favourite band... Thank you so much :)
Love it all, mostly the end!!!
I'm old enough to remember the first version of this song. This is an extremely worthy successor! Phenomenal, along with the rest of your songs!
They do covers of songs as well as they do own songs...LOVE this band!
One of my all-time favourite songs! That was great 😎
So much Star Trek reference 😍
Big Doors fan; I approve of this cover : )
The Dead South are the first 'modern' band in a very long time whose music I really like [yes I'm a 60s child and always will be]
They've got a unique sound - love the banjo and big bass.
