I once found a mantis in my garden. She stayed with me for a few days and then she laid an egg sack. I knew she was going to die soon so I released her into the garden to live her last days in freedom. kept her egg sack to make sure the babies are safe. Released them after 3 months or so after they hatched. Awesome journey. Btw I didn't know Lia was a lady mantis. I named her Liam initially and I was so confused when I found a pinkish goop in her enclosure. Thought she pooped or something.
One Autumn I brought a preying mantis egg sack to school for show and tell. The teacher kept it in a jar with air holes so we could look at it all Winter. The one nice Spring day what seemed like thousands hatched and escaped though to air holes. There were mantises on everyone and everything, inside desks, lunch boxes, hair. Part of the class ran away. The rest of us helped the janitor carry them to freedom. I loved every second of it, and so did the teacher.

My sister had a mantis that was SUPER attached to her. Always wanted to attach to my sister and chill out. We all fed her and she tolerated us, would latch to us if my sister wasn't available, but my sister was her human. She left us with about two hundred nymphs (I think, it's a guess. I'm not good at counting things that move) before she disappeared. Found her dead at my friend's house a few days later. When a mantis is nibbling at your skin, it's usually because they're thirsty and trying to pick up moisture. They're usually fed right before they're sent out though
