  • Replacing the USB cable on a Razer Kraken X, model number RZ04-0296 headset. Sometimes the headset would work fine. Other times moving the USB cable would cause the sound to come and go.

    Hi! First time i've really commented on any video or anything in a very long time. Just wanted to say I love your content!! This was so nice to watch! My headphones have the exact same issue and I look on fixing it this same way. Thank you for the inspiration!!!

    Thank you for your helpful videos! They're a lifesaver, especially those on repairing branded headsets. As a gamer on a budget, I often find myself clueless on how to fix mine without causing permanent damage. Your content really comes in handy. Keep up the good work, and please continue uploading more videos like this!

    Very good video! I have to do this my self but i never soldered on a board before. I got a wirebreak just where the cable enters the headphones so i can reuse the same cable. Thx for the help now its more clear for me.

      Lots of good videos on RUclips about soldering. It’s not at all hard. If you don’t have a soldering iron yet. One tip I would give is get a temperature controlled iron. It will make life more enjoyable.

    without the shield wire, you will have noise on the mic. you can test it by turning on 'listen to this device' from windows audio properties to hear your mic audio yourself

    What did you use to check the accuracy of each wire on the new cord and how did you get the plastic off the smaller wires that you soldered on?

    hey, great video man, it was really fun to watch,
    and my headsets have the same problem and i am willing to fix them soon,
    and i wanted to ask you some questions and tips ,because i don't want to ruin them.
    1st- is the flux really necessary, and if so what brands would you recommend.
    2nd- how can i check if i am putting the right cable in the right place (like the ground and power supply cables).
    3rd- what are the things that you recommend to prevent causing issues to the motherboard and/or other device components.

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      The flux is not a must have, it just makes soldering easier. I use Amtech NC-559-V2-TF but any no clean flux will help a bit. But you will be unsoldering 5 wires and soldering 4 or 5 back so I wouldn’t worry about getting flux for that. Just use some good quality solder. Kester has been my favorite brand for a long time.
      This page: www.moddiy.com/pages/USB-2.0-USB-3.0-USB-3.1-USB-3.2-USB-4.0-Connectors-and-Pinouts.html has most of the usb connectors and has the wire colors for the 4 pin USB A/B cables. To make sure you would need an ohm meter to check and make sure the right color wire is connected to the correct pin on the connector. But if the cable has red, white, green and black wires. It is probably correct.
      I think the main thing is to not break the wires going to the speaker. They are pretty fine leads.
      Good luck.

    Hello Sir,
    Amazing Video
    Very informative
    My wires are a bit damaged on the usb end of it
    Is there a way to cut a piece of the wire there and re attach it to the usb end again?

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  8 месяцев назад

      I don't see way not. There are 4 wires and a shield wire. The wires are color coded so can just splice them back together, matching color to color.

    Hey there! I’ve tried to deduce all the information I could without commenting as it’s a very clear and informative video, but there’s a question I need to ask. I’m planning on doing this on my discontinued razer kraken 7.1 V2. The internal construction of the headset you featured and mine are very similar, the USB cable and how it connects is actually identical. I noticed on mine and yours there’s 5 total wires and solder points, but you only connect 4 wires after the replacement. What is that fifth wire used for? The solid black thickest one?

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      The original cable had a braided shield wire. My replacement had a foil shield, so I really could not connect to it. It did work fine without it connected.

    Hi can you tell me witch usb cable you used. May be with link? Great repair content👍

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      I’m not sure of the exact cable I used. It was one I had laying around. I’m pretty sure it was a cheap one from Amazon but that is about it. I would think as long as it’s not a high power cable it would be small enough to work. Probably the cheaper the better.

    Hey I wanted to ask if I can replace the wire with any 3.5mm wire cause my cat chewed through my wife and half of it is fine but the other half is destroyed and I thought of cutting another half of some random wire and fixing it with the working cable of the blackshark v2 can you let me know if this is possible

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      I would use a wire made for USB. Any USB data cable should work. The impedance for the cable needs to be close to 90 ohms not to have data errors.

    I wanna ask about usb cable, what kind of usb cable has 4 inner cables? a few days ago I've checked one of my usb cables, but it only contains 2 inner cables. I really nub for this stuff XD

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад +1

      A lot of charge-only USB cables only have 2 wires. If the cable has the USB logo on it, it probably will have 4 wires. If you are ordering a cable just make sure it doesn't say charge-only, or something to that effect.

      It should be a USB 2 cable, I guess a USB 3 cable should work. But I think there is like 10 wires so would have to get the right 4 to connect up.

    Can I use OTG cable USB to USB c for a USB headphone how to connect to my phone and listen music Razer kraken v3 x

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      Probably so. If it’s a USB to USB-C cable it probably has a pull down resistor built in. I’m pretty sure the USB C port will not supply power unless there is a pull down resistor on one of the pins. As long as the one end has the 4 wires needed I would think it would work.

      Can you suggest me some OTG cable

    • @metalplasticelectronics354
      @metalplasticelectronics354  Год назад

      If you have a USB-A socket to a USB-C plug then I think any USB 2 or later cable, that is not a power only cable should work. I don’t know much about the USB OTG. I though the cables are the same it’s the device that makes it OTG. But I’m not positive about that. But I don’t see why the headphones couldn’t be used on a tablet with a USB-C connector with an adapter. But I haven’t tried it.
      Are you trying to replace the cable on the headphones or looking for an adapter?

      This is a USB headset. It doesn’t have any analog connections. It has it’s own audio DAC built into the headset. And I would expect not as good of a DAC as what sound blaster is selling these days.
