    This episode takes off right where that mini-episode left off. Remember in the mini-episode The Doctor originally wanted to take Rose to Barcelona but then seeing how put off she was by his regeneration, he changed the destination to her home on Christmas day, and then once his regeneration started going wrong he started driving the Tardis like a mad man which is why it crashed into buildings when landing at the start of the episode.

    It's a totally new person. The cells repair and rearrange themselves into a new body. Sometimes the body can be "inspired" by someone they've met or an older incarnation, but they're not taking a dead body.

    Remember UNIT from series 1? Aliens of London in particular.
    They've been allies with the Doctor since the 80s (or maybe the 70s due to a continutity error).
    They have access to a lot of alien tech, the Doctor tends to keep the more dangerous stuff out of their hands but he definitely wouldnt object to them having a translator.

    One of the most interesting things about the episode is that both Harriet Jones and The Doctor have solid points to make. The Doctor is right in that they were retreating according to the agreement he'd reached, and shooting them down could be seen as cold-blooded murder as they posed no immediate threat. However, Jones's point that The Doctor won't always be around is also a good one, and that there are enormous threats out there that the Earth may not be ready to deal with, so it's best that we remain hidden from those who don't know about us yet.
    I like that they were willing to have an ending where there wasn't a perfect solution to the issue, and each side had their points to make.

      That's the thing I love about this show. I watched this episode as a kid and was 100% on the Doctor's side, because Harriet was mean and the Sycorax promised they wouldn't come back (and obviously nobody ever breaks a promise, right?)
      But as I've gotten older, I've come to realise that honestly, I'm more on Harriet's side than the Doctor's. She makes a good point, even if the Sycorax kept their word and never came back, that doesn't stop the hundreds (if not THOUSANDS) of other alien races turning up to have a go at humanity in their place. Sontarans, Autons, Daleks, Cybermen, the Ice Warriors, they could all turn up at any point and humanity would have basically no chance of surviving. It's only pure LUCK that the Doctor happens to be here every time he's needed.

      What's weird is that we've already seen in Classic Who that there does come a day when the Doctor either doesn't show up or fails to stop an invasion, and this is a fixed point in time. He knows this, and he's still letting his ego get in the way. There's more I have to say on the topic, but can't without spoilers.

    Some non-canon fun.
    There's a short story about the Third Doctor and two of his companions getting pulled to this date because ten needs extra regeneration energy that three can provide.
    They never meet each other but three save Jackie from more evil christmas decorations.
    Jackie also convinces herself that ten has regenerated again and somehow regenerated Rose and Mickey as well.

    24:40 I also agree with Harriet's position and decision. From the Doctor's perspective, he woke up from a nap, made a bit of banter, had a sword fight and scared the Sycorax away. Whereas Harriet has been dealing with the Sycorax from the front lines and witnessed her colleagues being murdered. I don't blame her for making that decision for defence, as it was mostly all fun and games for the Doctor.

      Absolutely agree. And me as a human in this universe would feel much safer. The doctors an Alien… what about the people!! We can’t do anything to stop them ourselves.. so… I’ll prob talk about this in the opening before the next episode!

    • @joshuajoshua2732

      @BradleyS95 Yes but that just makes Harriet no better than the aliens so slaughtering a whole alien race should justify the means does it? I don't at all agree with what Harriet did she could had just not done it the aliens surrendered and left she took the "cowards" decision. The Doctor resolved the situation until Harriet made it worse.

    • @BradleyS95
      @BradleyS95 9 месяцев назад

      @@joshuajoshua2732 Harriet didn't invade a planet in the attempts to enslave the people, so they're not the same at all. The Doctor resolved the situation on that day, but who knows if they were going to come back. Harriet didn't make it worse, she ended it. But agree to disagree!

    • @SkillsLoading
      @SkillsLoading 4 месяца назад +1

      @BradleyS95 I fully understand the reason that Harriet did what she did, but I agree with the Doctor.
      You don't kill defeated enemies. Once someone is down, you stop hitting.
      But on top of that she is sending a message to the stars isn't "we will defend ourselves" it's "once we've beaten you we will kill you."
      It's more likely to invoke horror and aggression than respect.

    The Doctor cancels his trip to Barcleona with Rose due to his change going wrong and sets course for Rose's house which links the mini episode and christmas special together. Also Gob is British slang for mouth, the Doctor is just saying he talks alot.

  • @SarahH-ns6ly
    @SarahH-ns6ly 9 месяцев назад +3

    Yes, there is a whole big wardrobe in the TARDIS. A few of the items in there are from the original run, plus there is a Harry Potter outfit as David Tennant had just featured in the Goblet of Fire. It's also where the companions sometimes get old style outfits from, like Rose's Victorian dress in S1Ep3.

    The Doctor (as do Timelords in general) creates their body during the process of regeneration, so it's unique and new, although the main individual beliefs and principles, the sense of the person they are, stay mostly the same. As Ten said, "[changed] every single cell, but still me."

    Thanks for yet another instalment of your first-time viewing of doctor who! I’ve only ever seen certain parts of other reactors on their journey through New Who, and so being able to follow along with you from series one has been really great! I’d never thought too much about the style of the characters, or how they dress, so when you were commenting that 10 dresses with a little more sophistication I finally paid a little more attention to this… who knows you may even see him experimenting with back-combing at some point☺️ it’s really nice seeing you giving your takes and any first impressions and the little therories you come up with! It’s no surprise you’re the favourite when it comes to some other fellow whovians too😅

    David Tennant is my favourite doctor (despite his flaws) with Christopher Eccelston being a very close second. You don't see as much of David Tennant this episode because of the effects of regeneration. Yes, he is a different person but has all the memories of his previous incarnations. BTW the "doesn't she look tired" is a callback to the first female British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her final years in office (her party forced her to resign.)

    Billy, if you’re gonna watch Torchwood, you have to start watching it after the season 2 finale of Doctor Who, as the time line ties itself together better.
    Personally, I think season 2 isn’t as strong as the first season was. Seasons 1 and 2 are, for many fans, not as strong as seasons 3 and 4 are, which have a good number of tremendous stories in both, though I think they’ll be a few stories in season 2 you will like!

    David Tennant's first full episode as the Tenth Doctor.
    This episode takes place immediately after the previous episode just seconds after the Doctor regenerated so I don't think Rose would have had time for a haircut lol.
    I can understand what Harriet Jones thinks what she was trying to do but I totally agree with the Doctor on this she murdered an entire species on that alien ship there might have been families and children or innocent sycorax that didn't want any part of that invasion for all Harriet knew I can totally understand why the Doctor is angry with her I feel Harriet took the cowards way out rather than coping with the pressure of another possible alien return which was what the Doctor meant when he says "Don't you think she looks tired".
    The scene where The Doctor finds his new clothes yes the room he was inside the TARDIS which was the TARDIS wardrobe room.
    The yellow stuff coming out of the Doctor's mouth is regeneration energy as the process takes awhile to kick in including his memories.

      The aliens were going to kill like half the world and they didn’t care that they were killing fathers, mothers, children, etc. but I get both sides. The doctor won’t always be there so I feel she had the right in her position to choose what she wanted to do. Tough call. I personally as a human would feel safer with them dead as a human living in this universe after what the did to “us”. And fun fact I learned from patreon. She did cut her hair for the new season and is actually wearing extensions in this episode for continuity! Excited for the journey to continue!

      @@BillyKearneyReacts I'm sorry but I totally disagree they only killed two humans so far that was the scientist and the military man and that was by only one alien the leader the rest were just watching they may not wanted any part of that invasion like I said, you say fathers and mothers but what about the fathers and mothers on that ship that didn't want any part of it that wanted to go back to their families on there home planet they didn't kill other humans they were controlled and threatened but it didn't go any further than that and the Doctor had it resolved no what Harriet did was murderous it makes her no better than the aliens it doesn't matter if your human or alien your still a living intelligent creature and we humans have no right to take that away sorry enjoying your reactions but I don't agree with that policy that we should slaughter an alien race because there different and that were scared of them the human race should be better than that.

      @BillyKearneyReacts  9 месяцев назад

      @@joshuajoshua2732 you don’t have to be sorry and it’s fine not to agree with me. Idk maybe my opinion will change as I learn the alien ways more but with the way the leader of those aliens made the deal and broke it. To me that behavior can’t be trusted. Unfortunately it’s war.
      Did they show innocent young aliens? Did I miss that? To me the aliens are evil. So maybe I’ll see that there’s more to them.. but we haven’t met any good aliens besides The Doctor so I’m not thinking about there being “good” aliens on that planet thing.
