What I like about this story is it is written with the newer fans in mind. Those who are used to Chris and worry about the new Doctor, so Rose gets to put those fears and worries up on screen. They acknowledge it's strange and will take some getting used to, but are asking the audience to please give him a chance. "The Doctor, the real Doctor would X Y Z". "I don't even know who he is any more". "Sometimes I forget he's not human". All things that someone who has only seen season 1 would be asking. It's very clever, and a bloody good story too.
I didn’t even think about that but your absolutely right. I shared Rose’s fears and while I found Tennant great it did take me a few episodes to really get used to the idea of the fact that this wasn’t a new character. That he still had the same underlying personality and retained all his memories from before and that this was just like learning a new aspect to his personality I didn’t know before. Throughout this season I really learned to appreciate the way they did this, and even though I was sad in the end to see him leave it prepared me for letting in Matt down the line. It’s truly the most unique show I’ve ever watched.
I like that they let the beginning really focus on Rose's feelings about the change, because she has all the same questions and concerns that we have and that validates our own apprehensiveness.
If you look at 14:48, Big Ben has got scaffolding all around it because it’s still being repaired from where the slitheen spaceship crashed into it in series 1

The strangest time of the year for a Christmas episode...the BEST time for a Dr Who episode! Imagine how magical this was for me and so many others as a kid watching this special! Almost every season had a Christmas special up until a few seasons ago!
Christmas specials are usually referred to as episode 0 of a given season and often provide a story to transition from one season to the next and is much longer than a regular episode and usually extra cheesy. I do like Jacquie in this one. Based on her past interactions, when she keeps asking what do you need.. you just know she's secretly wishing the Doctor will say oh i need a glass of milfy goodness. Love this episode! It’s definitely a must watch. I’m going to have to make you a list of what specials to watch. Because some are just fun, but some you NEED to watch, so you understand what’s happening
It is one of the best episodes, which is saying a lot for a new Doctor's first. You'll miss the old Doctor -- we all do -- but you'll love this Doctor. I promise! I love all of them, but after this one and the next I can't promise YOU will. But I think you will.
Yes, you're right, it's a special that's not really part of the series (though the story follows on). But the way it works on British TV (a lot) is that if a show isn't running over christmas, you'll get a separate Christmas episode that fits between the series. The only exception with Dr Who is the first series of New Who, when the christmas episode was mid-series, because the series was running over Christmas. There's a mini episode that fits in between the first series and this episode that's fun to watch. (have a look out for the mini episodes, some have really useful info in them, and they're probably not on the streaming services.)
Shame you missed the short introduction. There's a minisode where Rose has a conversation with Tennant about regeneration. It works as a bridge between this episode and the last and it's a really great character moment.
David's doctor is one of the best Doctors ever, he is fantastic. Modern Doctor Who has had some really amazing Doctors but David is up there amongst the best.
Ok Travis - now you’re getting to most Whovian’s favorite doctor (and the one after him is many’s 2nd fav) so really excited to watch these with u, m’friend🤘
A satsuma is a small orange. Like tangerines or clementines. Not sure of any other differences. They seem the same to me. Maybe it depends on the country they're grown in? Anyway, I felt like this was a really good introduction to the 10th Doctor. I like that we get to spend time with Rose, Jackie and Micky and see Rose's reaction to the changed doctor.

its kind of funny about David Tennet. the was in Harry Potter "order of the phonix" where Harry is introduced to a Tent which was bigger on the inside, just like the TARDIS. lol David got the part of the Doctor 1 year after Order of the phonix was wrapped up.
And ugh, I don't find early Mickey cute at all. She was worried that he was dying and he started whining that she's not thinking about him. The Doctor could be DYING, Mickey. Get some perspective, manchild.
This is my favorite Doctor. You'll get the hang of him and I'm sure you'll love him, too. He's far less gruff than Nine, and is something like a whirlwind at times. Both his mind and his mouth can work at a thousand miles an hour. 😆 But when he gets hit with the emotions, especially emotional pain and guilt, he can be heartbreaking. And David Tennant is, in my opinion, the finest actor to ever play the role. (With Paul McGann and Peter Capaldi in a tie for close second.) The man can convey everything with just a look in his eyes. The Doctor may talk fast, but it's when he's not talking at all that David really shines as an actor.
If you want a few extra minutes of the new doctor and rose interacting before they get to earth you should watch the 2005 Dr. Who Children in Need short because it’s a fun video that adds a little bit to our new doctor before getting into the Christmas Invasion episode.
Yeah, I hate the way some streaming services lump the specials in at the end of seasons. It makes people not know when they're watching the season finale -- that was my experience.
I love Mickey, but the way they made him act in this episode pisses me off. Dude, your girlfriend has seen things that literally nobody else would understand or believe aside from you, The Doctor, and her mom. Why are you being a dick about her trying to talk about it? If your girlfriend went on a vacation without you, and came back, would you cut her off when she tries to tell you how much fun the vacation was? No. You wouldn't and shouldn't. And this is that times a giant number.
You would if your girlfriend deserted you for an indefinite period of time while going on that vacation, leaving you alone without a word or thought for your feelings, and then coming back like nothing happened and boasting about all the cool things you saw… I mean, I love both characters but Mickey and Rose are both immature and neither of them treat each other really well.
“Don’t you think she looks tired” is how they brought down Margaret thatcher. Sadly, it only tends to work on women. Doesn’t seem to have the same effect on men in politics.
I mean... That isn't the only reason they brought down Margaret Thatcher. She had disasterous policies that crushed the working class. People HATED her, and many of her policies are today reason of massive instabilities and crisis in the UK. When she died, people went on the streets to celebrate and sing The Witch is Dead. This kind of hate doesn't happen by simply "looking tired". Misoginy was the smallest reason for Thatcher's opposition

The specials you need to watch in order to understand everything and when to watch them (though the other specials are fun, too). But this is a pretty good list for you)
As much as it's not that great, it's also worth watching Return of Doctor Mysterio, it's an important link between Husbands of RIver Song and the start of Series 10. Reintroduces Nardole, introduces the Doctor's grief, etc.
Meat paste? We have peanut butter and they think we are weird. Brits have this meat paste food thing, original brand name Bovril. It is everything of the cow (including some bone) except for the skin, ground up with a salty preservative. Originally invented to keep troops fed with protein abroad in 1800s colonial times since sending live cows, cut up animals or buying from the (angry) locals each presented problems. It became popular for general use. In cold weather it is even diluted and boiled to make a a hot drink at sports events.
Nonono we're not going to do this and misinform about our gross meat foods. Meat paste and bovril are completely different foodstuffs, like, completely different. Meat paste is similar to pâté but slightly more gritty, it's a sandwich filler. Bovril is a drink.
And, for that matter, bovril and marmite are basically the same thing for different purposes. Marmite is a kind of bread-item topper. Bovril is almost exclusively made into hot savoury drinks (which are actually really nice if you're sick of sweet drinks)
Many people's favorite Doctor. David Tennant is fantastic but, personally, I prefer the next one. You say you're halfway through season four. In my humble opinion, the show gets really good in season two, but season five is when it gets amazing. Get ready for one of the best recurring characters in any tv show, anywhere.
The first episode of each Doctor tends to involve some down time as the companions come to terms with the change, as typically - it's quite a shock for them (and the audience). On several occasions the Doctor was in a hospital, and as suggested by Rose - this can be rather problematic! Of course, this was all from Classic Who 1963-89...
It doesn't really matter but i just like to point out this is actually classed as Season 2 Episode 0 not Season 1 Episode 14. It's a really great episode a very good start to David Tennant as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor the sycorax make-up was impressive i agree with The Doctor on Harriet's betrayal i thought that was a cowardly act i can understand why she did it but there could had been innocent sycorax families including children on that ship so what she did was no better than the sycorax. The only bit that does slightly annoy me in this episode is the whole Rose and Mickey relationship was really starting to get alittle stale Rose just needs to make her mind up and stop mucking Mickey about but overall great episode. Each Doctor has different outfits yes.
Out of all the episodes on this show, I think this episode is the best one. I often consider it the REAL finale even though it’s not connected to the previous season because it just feels like it should be. The aliens are pretty generic but I think the thing I always remember the most about this episode besides the focus on post regeneration, is the killer Christmas tree and the Sword fighting. It’s the most memorable episode to me. The 10th and 11th Doctor’s are what made this show what it is. I give props to Eccleston for giving it a strong beginning but David Tennant and Later Matt Smith are two actors that really just were at home in this role and they each brought so much life and Joy into this character, that to most people is probably corny as fuck. The amazing thing about Tennant though is that you can really tell that he gave this his all. He had so much passion for it. He actually talks about being a religious fan of the classic show that inspired this soft reboot. He talks about how it was one of the main reasons he wanted to act, that he’s wanted a chance to be The Doctor since he was a kid. Knowing that being in this show was letting him live out a childhood dream just makes his seasons so much more special. Many fans, including me found it really hard to deal with Matt replacing him as he was on this show for a lot longer than the previous actor and the show was still trying to find its footing and to pay homage to the original long running show. I do have to say though, while it will be sad when the episode finally comes it will also be exciting because I know that you will also love Matt’s portrayal. Going through so many actors over the seasons will get less depressing the longer you are able to spend time and learn new things about the character. It’s so unique to have a character that has so many different facets to him-like any character, but to have those things be represented by one talented actor after another. It will also make the 50th Anniversary episode so much fun for you.
David Tennant is THE doctor - Ecclestone was insanely good but needed longer to flourish further. By the end of season 4 (when David Tennant leaves) he will be your favourite doctor. After season 4, personally, I thought it went downhill because they got a new writer/show runner. On thé plus side, the guy who wrote and show ran these original ones is now back and David Tennant has made a return!
If you think about it what Harriet did wasn’t that messed up. Their own leader swore on the blood of their species and then immediately went back on it and tried to kill the doctor. It was obvious the sycorax were just going to spread the word and come back with reinforcements. It wasn’t like they did a peace treaty.

I have never seen a single brit say peanut butter is weird
Since Americans usually do Turkey at Thanksgiving so it is dropped from the Christmas dinner.
Britain is the most dangerous place to be at Christmas.
Poor Eight. lol His start in a hospital must have been very traumatic.
JUST WAIT until you get to The army of ghosts/Doomsday!
Satsuma. A mandarin from Japan. Not a Clementine.
28:48 How cute would it be if he turned into a 60 year old man?
>~>
This whole episode Rose got on my nerves. Jackie and Mickey deserved better
Satsuma = Tangerine
Satsuma ≠ Tangerine. Satsumas are generally sweeter than tangerines and are typically seedless.
Because I can't see it here I'll say it don't you think she looks tired ended Margaret thatcher
It will also make the 50th Anniversary episode so much fun for you.
yoooooo
