One of the best concerts I've ever experienced was seeing Al Jarreau live. Amazing example of how the human voice can truly be a most magical instrument!
His early music is much like this, in the late 80s and 90s he made more Soul and Pop, more for the charts and at the end of his career he went back to Jazz again. For me his best albums are "We got by", "Glow", "This time", Live "Look to the rainbow", "Tenderness", "Tomorrow today" and "Accentuate the Positive" I know and love him since the 80s, when I've been around 14 years old. I saw him live once in my life with the Tomorrow Today Tour and I will never forget this fantastic experience!
Hi there ... If you believe or not - Al Jarreau start his career here in hamburg germany in our small jazz club called "Onkel Pö’s Carnegie Hall" ! I`ve seen him live only once time (because I was quite young and not a big friend of Jazz music) but he was a very, very friendly guy and hugs all his fans. That impressed me a lot - thanks for sharing and all the best to you - from HH - germany
William, great choice. I had this lined up as my pick but decided to go with a Miles Davis/David Sanborn performance instead. Thanks brother. Next we’re gonna get some Michael Franks on the channel. 😊
@@L33Reacts You have no idea how big Al was in the 70’s & 80’s. He could do things with his voice that other singers only could dream of attempting. A great jazz and adult contemporary music singer. A singular talent.
He was building on historic precedent, with this. Decades before, The Mills Brothers would sing while accompanying each other with vocalizations that sounded like big band instruments, in some of their songs.
Been waiting for another Al Jarreau song! He is the only vocalist in history to win Grammy Awards in three separate categories: jazz, pop and R&B. My favorite album of his is one of his later albums -"All I Got" (from 2002). If you are looking for another, but totally different, Al Jarreau song, please react to "Random Act of Love" from that album. The bass player was killing it on that song! And you know Peter Barber? I follow him on his RUclips channel. He has an amazing deep bass/baritone voice!
I recall suggesting this gem when you reacted to the Brubeck original. Fasten your seatbelt, lol.... And if you're impressed by Jarreau, you should hear him with two other scat masters, Bobby McFerrin, and John Hendricks, covering Miles Davis's, "Freddie the Freeloader". These vocal genuises actually completely NAILED all the solos from the original Kind of Blue recording. Note for note, phrase for phrase, inflection for inflection. It's jaw-dropping. Actually, that could make for a really good comparison reaction...🤔
Even if you don't do a reaction to it, it will truly blow your mind. The other 2 vocalists I mentioned are at the same level as Jarreau was---- And hearing someone actually SING a Coltrane solo?? It's mind-blowing.
I bought this album in 80 or 81. "You Wont See Me". I bought the album because of Abraham Laboriel being a session bassist I had read of in album liner notes. Good choice.
Anything from his live album, Look to the Rainbow, you should check out. He is scatting and doing this style on these tracks: Burst in With the Dawn, You Don't See Me, Letter Perfect, Better than Anything, We Got By (this one has a live video as well from the same show). He does have some songs that are more commercial Top 40, but I think his best work is the eccentric stuff.
He was so f....brilliant.

He was a master of scatting. His phrasing, his improvisations all top knotch.
Thank you forhelping to keep these GREAT artists alive !!! Al Jarreau, a winner of 7 grammy's in 3 categories: _Jazz, R&B, and Soul !!!!!_

Jazz, scat, and R&B❤❤❤

Woo Hoo, What a ride! Al Jarreau has a phenomenal voice. Fantastic way to start off the weekend 🎉❤
He's amazing & big in the 70's/ 80's..he does covers as well, Beatles etc. (btw Abe's son is McCartney's drummer)

A masterpiece never to be bettered !
That was great .. it's been ages since I've heard Al
Need to do Take Five by George Benson...Live.....It's sick!!!!
Totally agree, you beat me to writing this.
For me anything by George Benson. So so underrated, vocals and especially the guitar. I think I’m going to go listen to Breezin right now.
@@mikerichards67 in the Jazz world George is not underrated
Awesome Awesomeness!

I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice. He really puts on a great show.
Al Jarreau , we got by.
Love this. Have bee waiting for it. Live in Paris is bevis betydr.
Did he turn a speech impediment into a musical career?! Good for him!
We can only aspire to be as cool...but highly unlikely. ❤😎
Al takes no prisoners.

Saw him live in 1981. He was sooooo good!!!! He had a phenomenal band too - with Nathan East on bass.
Very few while ever be this cool 😎
Thanks Bro!!!
Great selection!
Abraham Laborial (on bass) is the father of Abe Laborial Jr. who has been Paul McCartney's drummer since 2001
This requires no comment; the performance said it all.

i love kind of blue too... one of my first jazz records on here and it has a special place in my heart already LOL i'll have to check that out

Yeah, you'll have to deal with that.
What an amazing performance!
holy cow 👍

Such a distinctive voice. Great rendition, unique and engaging
Another vocal masterpiece by Al Jarreau is "Spain"--- If I recall correctly, there's a live clip of him performing it with Chick Corea.
now you have some real talent to showcase,al is top shelf.

Great pick... his version of Elton John's YOUR SONG is great too
There is only one Al Jarreau.
Peter Barber has a You tube reaction channel
Haha no shit really? I guess great minds think alike. I haven’t seen him since I was a kid. He was a good dude.
Its pronounced, Ja-ro
This is not the same performance as the Look to the Rainbow album. The Take Five cut on the album is BETTER!!!
