    Last name pronounced ‘Jer-O’ accent on 2nd syllable, like a French name. Al is one of those people in the We Are the World video that reactors always go, ‘who’s that?’, or ‘ hmm I don’t know him’. His initial audience comes from jazz & smooth jazz/r&b. He had more pop flavored hits in the ‘80’s. Kudos & BIG props to you for droppin the whole story in one pause, when you mention ‘beat boxin’. Right there that tells the whole story. Al was one of the vocal improvisers to really get into hand drum & drum beat sounds vocally, like a precursor to beat box error which came about like 3 - 5 yrs later. 👍🏾

    ***"JARREAU" TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....can you 'take' IT!???
    ...Al Jarreau is KING of Modern Jazz, and changed MANY genres that others benefited from...Lionel Richie, George Benson & MJ, for example; Al was a VERY educated vocal coach, and did Jazz for fun...then, he decided to make it his profession, and RIGHT OFF, He was changing the Game....
    ...Al was RACKING up Jazz accolades, and awards....but, when he started working with producer Jay Graydon, they created 80's "Smooth Jazz" (along with George Benson), and MEGA-SUCCESS came! Al's 1981 "Breakin' Away" Album was a GAME CHANGER; It gave us a smoother, slicker R&B Sound that Lionel Richie ("Can't Slow Down"), Dionne Warwick ("Friends & Lovers"), Michael Jackson ("Thriller"), George Benson ("20 /20"), and MANY other copied, giving us "Buppie" ('Black Yuppie') Soul....
    ...Al ALSO started another trend; on the "Breakin' Away" LP cover, his wife bought a peach-colored blazer to wear, over a pink Izod shirt, his Photographer HATED Al in, and....Al (accidentally) created... "The Miami Vice" look, that cool Dudes wore ALL OVER the place in 1985-1986!
    ...Al also was the THE FIRST Person (Solo) to sell out The UK's Wembly Arena; He also had a MASSIVE hit with the theme to the TV Series "Moonlighting" , which was the last TV theme to go Top 40 Pop in the 1980's.....
    ...Al died at 76, and was one of the Most successful "Blatinos' in World HISTORY.....AND, A very personal favorite Singer of mine.....

      oh wow!!!! he had a sitcom theme that charted? he changed 80s music and fashion!

    • @RBS_
      @RBS_ 2 года назад

      @@EmpressReacts ...that 'sitcom' theme, made Bruce Willis as STAR, gave Cybill Shepherd a MAJOR comeback, and changed the game for Jazz Artists like Diane Reeves, Diana Krall, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, etc. to work on TV / Movie themes...Al is a MAJOR, MAJOR Artist....

    How the hell do you even begin to rehearse something like that? I guess by now you know that Take 5 is a classic jazz number, and that Al enjoyed a successful commercial period in the 1980s. If you've got 3 minutes listen to his cover of Teach Me Tonight. It's lush
