  • The Haskell Free Library is the most unique library we've ever visited! It was built both in both Derby Line Vermont and Stanstead, Quebec so you can enter in America and walk over to browse some books in Canada.
We love that there's a line on the floor to show the border - it's a delightful little stop on the drive between Montreal and The United States.

Writing as a British citizen I've seen an episode about the work of the homeland security on our TV containing the scene about this library. I'm fascinated by it because as far as I know I've never known of any buildings ( or famous British landmarks) that are half of it in one part & half in another
Even if there was ,passports won't be necessary as they're still in the UK

I believe there's a documentary about this place... Very fun! Let me know when you're relatively close to Toronto! :)

We'll have to look for that! The history is fascinating - the debate of how the lines were determined. Yes! We will look you up when we venture out of Quebec.

Its front gate looks like the District Court of Baripada. 😅

Funny to think, the day this video was uploaded was the exact same day I visited Canada for the first time haha. But I didn't know they were allowed to do that though, they must REALLY trust them not to wander out past the library.

How neat! And great attention to details on your part. I bet they have some type of surveillance - I just didn't see it when we visited.

The librarian keeps an eye on which door you come through.

I think everyone enters from the main entrance on American side if I remember correctly. There's a little path next to the library for Canadiens to walk across so they can get into the library.
