- In today's 4K Canada Travel Guide, we will share with you our recent experience crossing the Canada US border. Usually, this is a hassle free experience as eligible Canadian citizens are easily allowed entry into the US. This time around, we were stopped at the border. It was the first time that I was asked to remove my glasses and cap so that the officer can compare how I looked with the picture in my passport. She also asked a lot of questions about family, work and background. In addition, she also did an inspection of the trunk and my belongings. Eventually, she was convinced that I was going to the US to help a relative and she was apologetic with the hassle. All's well that ends well!

Just passed through a few days ago for my first time. From US to CA first time. I was asked a few questions by CBP (they guy was FANTASTIC btw) and I was on my way in about 45 seconds. Biggest thing he asked is of my CAD equivalent was more than $1000 USD, of which I had $1060 USD. He said "Good on you, Welcome to Canada".
Well at least they didn't pull you into secondary. That happened to me once. Here's a tip make sure you clean your car out real good before you cross the border lol
I will be crossing into canada next week and I just had my car cleaned by a professional
Us border guards are very different than coming back to canadian border guards. Us border guards seem angry to start with.
Exactly!
It depends where you go. I am canadian and when i enter the us the american border officer is always nice smiling and doesn’t ask much questions and even told us a few restaurants not to go in the town we were headed and when i came back to canada the lady was nice but was more serious and asking way more questions and wasnt as good of an experience as going to the usa. Everything depends on where you go threw customs cuz its not the same employees
I don't know. I've encountered some power crazy Canadian officers. It's just the luck of the draw of who you get.
Yep crossed many times American here: going into Canada shortest took 30 seconds longest 2 minutes
Going back to US: shortest 2 minutes longest 5 minutes, easier to get into Canada than back in my own country
The US guards actually have threats to worry about. Who'd threaten Canada, the friendly puppy dog of the nations of the earth. Canada has no power so no one cares. The US is the center of a vast empire. It has countless threats.
I was sent to secondary on a road trip. My GF at the time (who's genuinely sweet as pie) was grumpy because I woke her up (it was like 3am). She was lippy with the guards. They spent a half hour searching my car. In the end they confiscated a baggie of lemon slices. Can't import citrus into the USA apparently.
Thanks for sharing!
The first thing I noticed was that when the CPB officer asked you when the last time you were in the US, you answered with too much information. You didn't have to say you were with your family, just how long it had been. Whenever a person crosses the border either way, they should listen to the question and answer only what they ask and don't offer any extra info because that raises their interest.
you must be a tik tok lawyer. the us can turn back any canadian they want
@@billnye3954 As can Canada turn back any American it wants. What's your point? I'm not a lawyer, tik tok or otherwise but I do research before I post. Also, I have crossed the US-Canadian border for work and leisure more times than I can remember so experience teaches a lot.

I don’t live too far from the Rainbow Bridge Border crossing, I worked down in Niagara Falls for a bit like 5 minutes away from the rainbow bridge border crossing, and I live in Hamilton, so yea it was a pain in the butt having to drive all that long with a truck but that’s what I had to use to get there
You answered their questions wrong . They start you off with a few questions , anything sounds out of place you get more questions .
She was very professional .
Take head coverings off , remove sun glasses .
Have passports for all occupants in your hand and give them to the guard . Dont ask questions just answer what you are asked .
Remember they are protecting their country
Go through Texas no border security there, just walk right in
Interesting. I cross almost weekly on the Mexican border and never have had this kind of extended palaver about personal affairs. What does your bumper sticker say, etc.? One or two questions usually suffice.
That’s right. Normally, they let you in after one or two questions. My guess is that they picked-up my bag of documents that I was bringing in for my Aunt in their x-ray. She went for it as soon as I opened the trunk.
Crossing the border on rainbow as a pedestrian to visit Buffalo hope that they don’t ask me all these kinds of creepy questions 😅
Good luck!
@@canadatravelguide just made it to cross the border and after I made the event I am attending this afternoon very clear to the CBP officer ! I was admitted here to the USA without suspicions!
It's also the luck of which officer you get. Some are nice others are real pricks.
Your sun glasses on , really?
It became a disrespect thing right at that point
Your number came up to be given the third degree.
Also border and customs officials all around the world talk to another.
You might be on their shit list when crossing borders again.
Never say any more to any form of law enforcement than necessary.
I hope you realize that the dash cam running is illegal on both sides of the border.
People literally record crossing the border all the time, it's all over youtube lol
What did that video cost the traveler for filming it and putting it up on RUclips?
*As him how much was the camera then*
