    - Prowse was not scottish lol. He's from the other end of the island.
    - There's loads of protocol droids in the universe, even on tatootine. C3P0 didn't give his name, so Lars wouldn't have reason to think that was his old droid.
    - the fade to black then fade up in a new scene moment is weird now but it's a fairly ordinary scene transition by 70s cinematography conventions when it was filmed.

The opening scene to 1977 audiences was mind-blowing. That Imperial ship just kept going and going and going. It was HUGE. At about the halfway point, someone said aloud, 'holy sh!t' and when the whole ship was finally revealed, people applauded that absolute audacity for a movie to open with such a ballsy shot.
OH... and in Empire a few years later? *That* line sucked the air out of the theatre. There was no internet, no spoilers, EVERYONE went in blind. After the movie was over, about 1/4 of the packed house went out to the parking lot of the theatre and had a fairly robust, sometimes heated discussion that divided us into "yeah, that's his dad" and "no way, Vader was lying to win Luke over." We had to wait years for the answer.

David Prowse wasn't Scottish. He was from Bristol, England. His accent is much more like the classic "farmer" accent here.
He had a similar accent to Stephen Merchant.

I remember reading the Star Wars novelization after first seeing the movie in theaters in '77. The prologue had a completely different concept for the Emperor than we finally got. In it, he was a bureaucrat who, after managing to gather imperial power to himself, was surrounded by ambitious people who basically isolated him and took over the empire for themselves. Obviously this forward was probably excised from the book by the time the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back was approved.
The book also included most of the cut scenes of Luke in Tashi Station. I can see why they edited them out, but I'm sorry that they lost the introduction of Biggs. I vaguely remember a TV cut of the film where they reintroduced some of those scenes.

originally it was kyle katarn that stole the death star plans, and i think it was all part of the plan to find the rebel base. emperor was trying to give false hope to the rebels, not knowing skywalker's kid was gonna be there to save the day.

owen not recognizing 3p0 is not a plot hole. the 3p0 is a common model. uncle owen doesn't really care about droids to begin with, and last time he saw 3p0, he had silver plating. 3p0's memory is wiped at the end of ep3, so he wouldn't know anything about tatooine.

    • @ShamrockParticle

Listen to the NPR radio dramatisation of A New Hope. It really explains alot of the back story and the original way the death star plans were stolen. Of course its now not classed as canon but it is a really good version and Lucas himself endorsed it at the time

That opening scene with the Blockade runner zooming past followed by the ISD taking over the entire screen and seemingly looming right over your head is still THE most powerful intro any film has ever had, when seen in theater. It seems to go on forever, and immediately shows the power disparity without a single bit of dialogue.

Actually Owen not reconizing C3PO isnt really a plot hole. We seen hundreds of protocol droids throughout Star Wars media of all of which are similar looking. And 3PO was not painted gold and was unfinished when he was on the Lars farm. It's not really that hard to believe

If you are looking for how the Rebels initially received the Death Star Plans, check out Star Wars Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire. It's the story of how Kyle Katarn defecting from the Empire and started working with the Rebellion.
I don't understand why C-3PO being in AotC and ANH is a plothole. Protocol droids like 3PO are a dime a dozen, of course Owen doesn't recognize 3PO.
That is not Luke's T-16 Skyhopper, that is the Lars family speeder.
Owen did know Anakin was a Jedi. He didn't want Luke to learn about Anakin because Jedi training is what lead to his eventual assumed death. "He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damnfool idealistic crusade, like your father did."

I just had the opportunity to watch the movies (from 1 to 6) in a film forum Star Wars cycle, lots of fans, older and young, we had a lot of fun with A New Hope on the BIG SCREEN, I even recorded the initial shot with my phone, I became a huge friend of the presenter, also an actor, he saw the movie at the theater when he was 10 years old, huge fan, he told us how significant was when he saw the hologram of Princess Leia for the first time
I think I'm watching the definitive analysis of Star Wars, keep going👌

10:30 "Oh look this distinctly different looking toaster sounds just like a toaster I owned multiple decades ago!"
Owen Lars would have to have the wrinkliest brain in the galaxy to make that kind of assessment and may possibly just be stupid if he came to the conclusion it had to be the same droid over this specific detail.

I can fill a couple plot holes. As far as C3PO and R2D2s memories go, they were both wiped at the end of Revenge of the Sith. They wouldnt remember Anakin or the farm at all. I think C3PO recognizes that theyre older than they remember and probably deduced that theyd seen battle before.

George Lucas originally said the series would follow the droids from master to master. There was a weekly comic in Grit with the earlier adventures of R2 & 3PO. The prequels are garbage apart from the Anakin vs Obi-Wan downfall which was reported as the backstory in 1978. Nothing Disney matters. It is recon fan fiction st this point. Claiming 3PO should remember a turd like Rogue One is funny.
