    Yes, as a matter of fact Luke does find secret Jedi information and uses it to learn how to build a lightsaber. This was in a well known deleted scene. And come on man, there are lightsabers are not a secret and are around in various places.

    Great point about Obi's name issues. LOL. The special edition doesn't fix the speeder going full speed ahead but adds a rockface that R2 couldn't have fit behind. Blends in perfectly, otherwise. Sequels if not prequels bypassed the description in the original trilogy as the OT kept restraint and felt more believable overall. In the 60s, what passed for rated G included blood. 🤷‍♂️

    Ok... striking down a defenseless old man... the emperor was obviously attempting to manipulate Luke. He was trying to use Luke's sincerity and desire to only do good against him. You're right, killing the emperor could have ended the conflict. We are simply seeing a much older and much more experienced force user attempting to manipulate some one with a lot less experience and training.

    I never thought about the C3PO sound effects before, but this just came to mind: how does a droid even hear? They don't have ears like a living being. One can assume a droid records the sounds around it and analyzes them. This is hearing to them. So it is possible that C3PO has recordings of everything he ever heard (at least since his latest reset), since these recordings would also function as his memory. It isn't unreasonable then that he can also just play any of these recordings.

Leia was raised til a young age by her hiding mother...Anakin is not from 'Tatooine, Anakin was not a teenage father, Anakin fought in the Cloone War as 30+ years old...and so much more of the real, true genuine, printed version that no one take the time nor effort to read.

    0:30 As we plainly see when Tarkin is asked to evacuate, he's incredibly confident that this small rebel squadron can be wiped out easily. Why waste power to blow up an entire planet when you can just wait a couple minutes and blow up your actual target?

  • @VinVonVoom
    @VinVonVoom 2 дня назад

    0:00 In The Phantom Menace Qui-Gon doesn't even sense that Anakin is strong with the force, he has to decipher it by learning about his foresight, and he was stronger in the force than anyone ever. To me it seems clear you can only sense someone's force power if someone has actually awakened it in them and used that power intentionally. Hence why Vader only senses that "The Force is strong with this one" when Luke turns off his targetting computer. 3:13 This is a myth. I own an original film print of this and his bump and "see to him" are present there and just as loud. 4:48 He's using his foresight to find the most opportune time to pass where they won't look. In his experience there's no such thing as luck. 5:27 I have no retort for this I just wanna say its very true. 6:27 In the original version of this scene yes it made absolutely no sense but with the Special Edition they're luring him into a trap. I'm thinking the original scene was how it was in the Special Edition and they didn't have the budget for the droves of Stormtroopers so they just shot it without them without thinking about how it doesn't make sense that way.

  • @VinVonVoom
    @VinVonVoom 2 дня назад

    1:28 The original scene was also intended to have a creature, this guy was just a stand in. It wasn't a slug guy though he was a big hairy dude like Chewbacca. It ultimately didn't fit into the effects budget so they migrated the dialogue to Greedo. 4:42 To be fair, we didn't see Leia's reaction, it cut away to Obi-Wan being horrified instead of Leia. 5:28 He's just saying he's gonna be there at 2AM. "In 0200 hours" actually works here. I think the more concerning thing is that they're doing all this stuff at 1:57AM, no wonder Chewies losing against Threepio he needs to go to bed. 9:08 The force will guide his steps. Obi is more equipped for this job than the other fellas because with his cosmic awareness he can go totally unseen whereas a stormtrooper walking over to the ledge to turn it off would raise suspicion. 10:55 They're approaching to frisk them and check their operating numbers.

  • @VinVonVoom
    @VinVonVoom 2 дня назад

    2:55 There's nothing CGI about this rock, its just composited in from other shots of this cave. 6:01 This was done because they needed to wait a bit for the film crew to put in the blade. 7:28 The very first thing R2-D2 did in this movie was keep C-3PO in the dark about everything until the very last minute. It makes perfect sense even in the context of just this film that he would go "erm actually Anakin _is_ Darth Vader". 8:14 Midi-chlorians are explicitly stated in The Phantom Menace to be a seperate phenomenon from the force. 8:38 The force is what destroyed the Death Star in the end so Vader was ultimately correct. 13:19 This was done because there was an R2 droid that the Stormtroopers just ignore for some reason and they used the Ronto to cover it up. 13:26 If Obi-Wan didn't mind trick him he'd have to kill them. Also making someone instantly back off and change their mind seems like exactly what you want as a peacekeeper. 17:44 In The Phantom Menace Sebulba says "Maclunkey" to Anakin and it's subtitled as "this'll be the end for you".

    4:00 - It's asked why Luke waited so long to tell Leia about his father, during the apparent one-year span between Empire and Jedi - but Luke only confirmed the truth by asking Yoda only right before rejoining the Rebel fleet, so this is his only appropriate moment with Leia to bring it up

    10:30 "Oh look this distinctly different looking toaster sounds just like a toaster I owned multiple decades ago!" Owen Lars would have to have the wrinkliest brain in the galaxy to make that kind of assessment and may possibly just be stupid if he came to the conclusion it had to be the same droid over this specific detail.

    you're not wrong about how some of the odd choices here would be ridiculed to hell and back if they were done by Disney, which has me question why the OT gets a free pass while the others do not? is it because they were made in the 70's and 80's and people expect that from movies made in those times? or is it cause some just like to complain nowadays? i do get that Disney's stuff has been mixed at best, but to act like they're the only ones that did odd and bad things in their movies and should be blasted for it is pretty one-sided and close-minded. besides, no movie is perfect- even those considered the best of the best have some flaws

    Other thoughts: yeah, Luke building a lightsaber between ESB and ROTJ has always been an EU thing, both under Legends and Disney. I'm not sure about the Disney comics version (I know he's been carrying around a yellow saber he found at a temple but I don't know how he makes his green one yet), but in Legends he went back to Obi-Wan's house on Tatooine and found an instructional book, and he cooked a synthetic crystal with a small fusion oven thingie. In the Shadows of the Empire novel he tests it out, telling Artoo that if he blows himself up by having built it incorrectly, he'll be the stupidest man alive, or something along those lines. (He'd also considered having Artoo test it at a distance but decided against it because he felt it was unethical to risk blowing up his droid friend.) And yes, Vader's line "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" makes zero sense thanks to, once again, Lucas screwing around with his creation's history and changing things with the prequels. Would it have killed him to stick to his own story? 🙄 I don't buy the whole, "oh it's only a myth, the details don't matter" angle - bullSHEEVit. The concept of Luke and Vader running away together at that point of the story is one of the most ripe fanfiction ideas, lol, one I've played around with myself. No, I don't think they'd go straight back to the Rebels; as cut and dried a Rebel as Luke is, he's not stupid and he'd know they wouldn't accept the 2nd biggest war criminal in the galaxy, not to mention he'd know his father would have no interest in helping them either - Vader's loyalty is to HIM, his own son, and no one else after the Emperor. I'd wager Luke was planning on going rogue for the sake of getting his father out of this dire situation and trying to continue to persuade him out of the Dark Side so that they could defeat the Emperor together, and after that - he likely wasn't thinking that far ahead. Just getting rid of Palpatine was a big enough hurdle, and he'd have to figure out the rest later if they survived that crucible. Yep, the OT made me love the idea that both Yoda and Palpatine were above the notion of using lightsabers as both were advanced in their philosophies as well as their respective powers. I too think that would've been much cooler. Since the whole Rule of Two and other Sith details didn't exist back in the 80s, obviously none of this was at play within the 5D chess Palpatine and Vader were engaged in regarding Luke's potential recruitment and what that meant for their relationship, but even back then without any of that extra lore, the tension between the Emperor and Vader was still compelling because Vader was clearly just stalling for time since ESB ("He's just a boy, Obi-Wan can no longer help him...if he could be turned, he could become a powerful ally...") in a desperate bid to keep his son alive, and Palpatine was just sadistically entertained by the notion of father and son pitted against each other, and desirous of a superior apprentice to replace the broken Vader. Related to Vader being a more submissive, despairing character in ROTJ, it's very plausible he already knew his ass was on the chopping block and was willing to die if it meant Luke surviving at all costs, and when he talks to Luke during the surrender scene, it's also quite obvious he's convinced that Luke can't survive this confrontation without turning to the Dark Side. By the way, for a REALLY tiny detail it seems you didn't notice, when the Imperials have the Rebel strike team rounded up and the Rebels have their hands up on their heads, you can see the dude who was retconned as being Rex is actually the one who put on the scout trooper armor! I guess that's a nice fitting little touch they didn't originally intend but it makes sense that out of all of them Rex would be the one who'd decide to do that, lol.

    The problem I have with Leia's line, "Somehow, I've always known," is that 99.9% of the time, it's laughed at and/or cringed at by viewers because of the retroactive incest in ESB. I've never seen someone watch that scene and not comment on how absurd it sounds in hindsight, and how it makes Leia look like a pervert, and it bothers me to no end because it would've been such a simple thing to avoid. I get what Lucas was trying to express, but since he knew well enough by the time the script was being finalized that he was shoehorning plot elements that previously weren't meant to exist, I really wish he'd stopped to consider how this line was going to come across and just tweaked it to something the audience would've found more reasonable. Something like, "...It makes sense," or, "I understand. We always felt drawn to each other..." and people might have copped that she was referring to both their awkward making-out one movie prior and how they instantly fell into such a close rapport upon meeting and had a strong bond throughout the trilogy. With no conscious knowledge of their sibling relation, it's understandable they mistook some of their chemistry as romance (which has tragically happened to some people IRL), and the line wouldn't be as unintentionally comical and scene-breaking.

    You find out what happened with the Bothans in Shadows of the Empire. The speeder bikes aren't miniature. The redwood forest is just huge. Luke and Leia have the force. The stormtroopers have their helmets, which help them see. You can survive falling off of a moving vehicle of that speed, especially if you land in soft earth like Leia did. You keep saying that things wouldn't "age well". What is so egregious about stepping on a branch in the middle of a forest? The stormtrooper is such a bad shot that he can't hit a still target?? He's not trying to kill her. He is trying to distract her so she can be captured easier.

    Palpatine never cared for the Rule of Two. It only mattered to him if it threatened him. During TPM, his master, Darth Plagus, was alive, and Count Dooku was working with Palpatine. All while Palpatine had Maul as his apprentice. In Legends, Palpatine had a woman named Mara Jade, who was known as the Emperor's Hand while he still had Vader. Lastly, in ROS, his plan was to possess Rey's body. He wanted to rule forever and replaced his apprentices whenever they were no longer of use or a better one came along. He did this with when he had Anakin kill Dooku. So he no doubt would've had Luke do the same to Vader.

    Regarding Vader not being conflicted about killing Luck in Empire. He is in the scene where he is talking to the emperor. The Emperor wants Luke dead at first, Vader starts off saying he is too weak to be a threat, and when then doesn't work, he suggests turning Luke. He is trying to save his son's life in that scene
