brilliant piece by the way, it is probably inspired by Ennio Morricone (at least the first part), and it has a very "cinematic" feeling. One of the best pieces by Tortoise, in my opinion.
yes.. it is a semi-hollowbody..it's a Gibson ES -335.Nice guitar..and Parker is a really good guitarist, too!Love Tortoise..I think it's amazing how they sound like no one else out there.
THE FIRST ONE IS A ES-335 and the second one is a FENDER VI that actually is a baritone guitar but by many other people is conceder in like a sixth bass a JAGUAR give you the same tone
...Ennio Morricone...it's easy to find his evidence here (and in a lot of other T. works)...what surprised me was to find out that they know and love Franco Battiato. Totally unexpected..
@Aspartamebraintumor: Yes-well spotted! A "Fender Six",essentially a baritone guitar.Pretty rare, and often just presumed to be a Jaguar by the casual observer.
Yup, you're right. Turns out that the song I thought was called "I Set My Face To The Hillside" is really called "Ten Day Interval". A complex way of explaining a simple mistake. My bad!
cheers for adding this. Nice one. Cant wait for the new album now! shameless plugging but, Check out The Window Right. We're from the uk. You might like us if you like Tortoise. Cheers again!!!!
Hey I noticed you were marked as spam, but its weird cause we do have good taste in music, and i also recommend watching money as debt. its actually quite an eye opener about the international banking system.
Scenic - Acquatica (1996); anything by Anouar Brahem / Anouar Brahem Trio; anything by Cul De Sac, especially the album China Gate (1996) and its song “Nepenthe”; Macha’s self-titled album (1998), the instrumentals on Eric Clapton’s Rush soundtrack (1991); anything by Dirty Three; the song “Nomad” by the Aqua Velvets (1996). The Scenic and Macha albums in particular are two of the most mind-bogglingly brilliant ones I’ve ever heard.
I strongly recommend watching: money as debt, freedom to fascism, ring of power, 911 mysteries, viberation creates form, behold a pale horse, 2012 enigma, Jim Marrs the 4th reich, the polarity matrix field, Graham Hancock - Quest for the Lost Civilization ,Red Ice TV - Episode 4 - Symbolism in Logos, Indigenous Native American Prophecy, Michael Badnarik's Constitution Class 1 of 43, Consuming Kids:The Comercialisation of Children, Fluoride Deception Part 1, Are You a Sovereign Yet...
Funny. I found this song from my liked videos. But I've Never heard this before. Some weird UtUbe joke? And for the record - I don't like this song, but I also will not give it a red thumb. It's not that bad =)
tortoise make me feel cooler than i really am

I Love this song so much, Latin feelings but a little bit sad. Tortoise is one of the most favorite bands on earth. They are awesome.
man, this band has started to really blow me away lately with their unique sound and total professionalism.
Best shaker guy I have ever seen...
Damnit, I love these guys. This song is one of my particular favorites of theirs. The melodies are astounding. Just fan-damn-tastic.
I really enjoy Tortoise studio recordings but I like them live even more!
They’re amazing
To think this video uploaded the same year youtube launched.
My new favorite band.

out there.
I wish I could play the guitar like this
Glass Museum used to be my favourite. Then I heard this.
Along the Banks of Rivers is good too.
By god I love Doug Mccombs, especially when he's got a bass vi in his hands
A lot of research bring me to the belief that his “bass” is actually a baritone guitar
the bells give me the goosebumps. love the sound
I love this band
If you guys like this then check out The Sea and Cake. same drummer
my favorite song of this great group. this is great!
One of my fav tortoise songs. thanks a bunch. i cant fucking wait to see these guys this summer.
amazing sound. just brilliant! it´s a pleasure to listen to their music.
One of the best groups around today.
i wish I liked cool music in 2004. i was probably too heavy into Broken social scene and old modest mouse to notice this
Probably one of the top 2 best shows I've ever seen, alongside Ribot
One of the cleverest bands! They always have cool song titles too aha
Ever heard of Lucid Rivers?
3:22 was like "why did you stand up man? What was your point?" LOL
wow i wish Tortoise was on tv in America. like that's gonna happen....
THE FIRST ONE IS A ES-335 and the second one is a FENDER VI that actually is a baritone guitar but by many other people is conceder in like a sixth bass
a JAGUAR give you the same tone
To answer the question as to the whereabouts of this performance: Belgium is the capital of France. duh.
best. band. ever. thank you for this. just caught them in nyc, loved it. wish i could follow them around...
love the sound . so great sessions
this is the continuation of the art rock of the 60 `s
Ohhh.. That feels good.
Jeff Parker is a fuckin' genius!
tortoise is excellent
Beautiful!
everybody in tortoise is better at drums than most people in my school
This is awesome!!
i liked "swung from the gutters" as well. this song is put together well...
@dsmidl I think mostly in their range of instrumentation, and that they have a strong improv feel, but alot more laid back and jazzy in my opinion.
...Ennio Morricone...it's easy to find his evidence here (and in a lot of other T. works)...what surprised me was to find out that they know and love Franco Battiato. Totally unexpected..
very close my friend is a FENDER VI wich is a varitone guitar or like many people said is a bass
excelente wn la kago
grande tortoise
Muuito lindo!
pure class
@Aspartamebraintumor: Yes-well spotted! A "Fender Six",essentially a baritone guitar.Pretty rare, and often just presumed to be a Jaguar by the casual observer.
Yeah, I definitely hear some Morricone style.
that's awesome! i laughed out loud by myself when i read this.
It was in Belgium I think... This Tv chanel is from Belgium...
So gratifying.....
My bad didn't notice also found a new band called Precious Fathers you should check them out.

one of my favorites:)
What a great band. There live stuff is even better than their albums.
PS if you like this you might like the Little Guy's RUclips clip 'Verabschiedet'

beatiful guitar...
many thanks! do you have more from this broadcast? if so, please share.

MUITO BOM
@TonsofFun777 You'd probably like the album version then. the keys are much quieter. I like this version a little better.
That could easily be a Marc Ribot's song
@DRA1N0 best drummer you will ever see as well
6 people loooooove lady gaga!
@bhodes try pell mell - interstate & yawning man - vista point
Check out the band Dirty Three if you love Tortoise.
preciosa
Who's come back here in 2022?
Yup, you're right. Turns out that the song I thought was called "I Set My Face To The Hillside" is really called "Ten Day Interval". A complex way of explaining a simple mistake. My bad!
synth heavy? this is what makes it sound organical.
This is in Belgium.
oh shit when were they in nashville?
looks like a jaguar!! :O
Some kind of vintage Gibson ES-335.
@ferdmertz yawning man is great :)
A Fender Bass VI
great... 6/5
Of course it was a joke. Everyone knows that France is in fact the capital of Belgium
these guys NEED an accordion player....R.Burger perhaps
Belgium (Cirque Royal in Brussels)
La Deux = belgian tv
cheers for adding this. Nice one. Cant wait for the new album now! shameless plugging but, Check out The Window Right. We're from the uk. You might like us if you like Tortoise. Cheers again!!!!
no, you are wrong, this is called "I set my face to the hillsides" from their 2nd (? not sure) album, TNT.
This song is not called "I Set My Face To The Hillside". I believe it is a version of "Along The Banks Of Rivers".
the video is over now and i just jizzed my pants. shower time =D
Hey I noticed you were marked as spam, but its weird cause we do have good taste in music, and i also recommend watching money as debt. its actually quite an eye opener about the international banking system.
this is in france
Unfortunately, they don't use the harmonica, which adds so much to the album version. Without that harmonica chime, this live version seems awkward.
what the fuck are you trying to say son. lets just focus on tortoise while we're here
actually its a melodica
Please tell me that "Belgium is the capital of France" was a joke...
@dsmidl i bet you can guess why
Not bad. I think they could've been more tight with the vibraphone work at the end. Both players sounded like they were rushing it.
Can any one recommend some more music in this style? Some modern Spaghetti western style music.

what guitar is he playing?? lol i forgot his name as well as the guitar..
what kind of semi-hollow body guitar is that? or is it a hollowbody
Nope, It's just Chuck Testa
Is that one of those 6 string "Guitar" basses that fender made along time ago?
Yep!
Ches is an awesome drummer, but that's not him playing with Tortoise here. It's Jeff Herndon.
¡ :D !
@rbenitez88 Christian Vander , crazy ass shit

it almost sounds like a song from final fantasy
