Hell yeah. Damn I hate breaking the phone out sometimes but, how valuable is this recording! I need it in my life! Like thousands… millions of others haha
I agree ! I think they were so connected that from the first note that Sharay played together with the drummer with absurd precision and even when he paused when he came back at the right time, these are things worthy of being seen, who knows, maybe he'll play live!
Black Gospel church on a Sunday is the closest thing we get to Heaven while here on Earth. Everything about this video is fire. From the crowd, the choir, musician interaction. It's magical.
@BibleBeliever-c6das much as it always hurts to admit people don’t really talk about the lives most black church musicians live outside of church and it makes it seem like some not all of them really come to put on a performance and make worship more about them than it is about God as well as sometimes the black church musicians aren’t even christian
Arthur, in San Francisco, seriously considering finding a new instrument to play. Notice the other Bass player just put his instrument down, down and turned over !
pay attention...young men are crowded at him just to watch him play...he is an inspiration and a role model to these guys...great skills...truly a gift from god...a magnet to keep those guys off the streets...hope he gives lessons cuz they seem really amazed....
Yes for sure! You can see that everyone is eager to hear the best, I wanted to be there ... This is very inspiring! Usually musicians who see another musician playing perfect and going beyond the normal limit encourage you to study more.
I worked with a mostly white Christian church for a couple years and I have to say. Black churches look like 100000000 times more fun to attend and perform for. Worship you can feel to your soul with music like this. Amazing playing, amazing music. Amazing vibe.
@kenfontenot Maybe so, but the black churches still look like more fun to me. It's just my opinion. Thanks for sharing your historical knowledge and feelings as well however. As a musician that enjoys rhythm and the vibe of the above video, I stand by my message even 10 years later.
I agree, I also point out that from the beginning Sharay's presentation was intense until the end! That's what I like to see! for he was aware of everything he was doing. Nowadays, I don't know if he would be able to do that... because the producers are in the ear by the talkback saying: less note... This takes all the shine out of the presentation.
I've watched a lot of bass videos but keeps coming back to this monumental moment in bass playing. It just gives me a stank face everytime I hear it even though I've heard it a hundred times already.
It’s 2024 now but it is never too late for Sharay the man himself to record this one more time so we all can watch it with better video and audio quality for another 15 years.
Just finished playing a smokin' gig with a jazz/r&b band I'm in. Folks slappin' me on the back, telling me how great my bass playing was. Then I get home and watch this... Looks like I'm gonna have to reach further.
Brock Landers That feel, both this video and some of Doug Johns' did that to me too. Love bass too much at this stage to be discouraged. They're so damn inspiring :)

So much love & respect for the Tribe of Juda🇺🇸 from the Tribe of Benjamin 🇯🇲 God does love us - but we must do more for him.
Apart from the worship, what a school of music that is. The number of bass players and drummers waiting their turn, learning from each other, the very young kids paying very close attention. Quite some place. So much happening in this video....
Heard this when it came out, changed my life! still watch this daily! couldn't ever thank Sharay Reed enough for playing from his heart and soul! Infinite peace and gratitute to you!
Nah, im back to this video again! This is drum & bass! Wow, the connection, the musical tessellation between drummer & bassist truly is heavenly here. The bassist is goin on a way!!!
This performance is a synthesis of what music represents for me. The music that combines, the music of who knows how to listen, the music made by the contribution of each individual who is committed to the realization of the "whole", the music that arouses wonder and dismay on the face of those who watch, the music that make you clap ypur hands over the beat, the music full of feeling, the same one that excites and makes you smile :) Sharay, for sure is a god!
