    Here's my entry for the no-mods shop class settlement building contest. County Crossing is a mid-sized moderately prosperous village that serves as a waypoint between Bunker Hill and the northeast settlements (The Slog, Finch Farm, and Greentop Nursery).
    It includes a heavy guard presence, a small marketplace and resting area, a self-contained farm, and all the accessories and facilities a comfortable settler or farmer would want or need.
    Hope you enjoy it, and that it gives you some ideas or inspiration for your own builds. Thanks for watching.
    If you enjoy the content on my channel, and you'd like to provide a bit of additional (and optional!) support, please consider becoming a patron: / sardeliac Thank you!

    this is so realistic and absolutely what you'd see in post-apocalyptia. it's really demotivated me as I'll never make anything this good.
    awesome job.

      I know this comment is a year old but ima still reply. This is actually not that realistic if you ask me. This would have been realistic 20-40 years after the war maybe but after 200 years settlements shouldn’t be looking like junkyards. But I guess that’s Bethesda’s fault.

    the extinguishers, goggles, and mitts for changing the laser turret's batteries is genius. i can totally imagine the first settler to set his hands and face on fire...poor bastard. thank god the boozy doc is on standby... it's those little touches and thoughtfulness that makes your builds exceptional.

    Immersive, lore friendly, and very creative. I don't know how you keep the odds & ends on the table tops, because EVERYTHING in my settlement fell right through to the first floor once I left the settlement. Overall a great job!

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад

      Thanks! The trick is I save decorating for the last thing I do, and once I start decorating I fast-travel to the settlement from the settlement to test item fall-through; whatever falls off in three fast-travels I pick up and put somewhere else. I also avoid leaving the settlement area once I've started. ;)

    I long ago yielded to the settlement builders detritus-bugs. Do settlers not ruin your sundry item placements (22:15)? Everyone of my builds has no items what so ever on tables or shelfs. Very authentically lived-in -- excellent!

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад

      Thanks! Settlers won't ruin what they don't get close to or interact with. If you watch how they move around and sit on chairs and stools, you can figure out what they might run into as they go by. The key is to space out the shops, chairs, scav stations, and guard stations so the settlers have enough room to move from where they are to where they want to be and keep everything out of their way.
      If you place settler-usable items in certain configurations, you can figure out where the settlers will never go... like the shelves in the general store, I know the settler will go from the door to the counter, or from the door to the bed. Anything I place outside that pathing triangle will stay put (as long as it doesn't fall through the furniture or whatever).

      Thanks! Have you checked out Oxhorn's "how happiness works" spreadsheet/calculator thing? It's on his channel linked in a video somewhere... that might help with the happiness thing. At a guess, if you haven't scrapped the original beds in that little hut, do that first and build new ones--they don't work like real beds after you've unlocked it, so they won't generate the requisite happiness.

    Is that Head Ghoul guard Jozzlyn by any chance? Lol. Awesome build like always! I love the Sleeping Bag on Table bunks. You mentioned like OCDecorator for making items static. The Xbox version of Place Anywhere also has a make static funtion. The place anywhere function is optional to use so you can use it simply as a way to lock down all those loose bits. How do I vote on this? Also I'm unaware of this Scaffolding Ladder trick. Can you either explain it or link the video? It looks handy.

    • @theinsaneshecklador6598
      @theinsaneshecklador6598 6 лет назад +1

      Skooled Zone is going to narrow it down to the top 5 entries and then viewers will be able to vote in his poll. The scaffolding stairs technique is shown in his junk fence video.

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад +2

      The head ghoul isn't Jocelyn, but... it is perhaps a relative of hers haha The voting is gonna start on 1 July, and if this manages to make it into the top five I'll definitely letcha know. ;) For the scaffolding trick, it's basically regular group select with it as an anchor; what makes it so awesome are its properties. It's tall, it's thin (so it's easy to see through), it's angled (so you can place it a variety of ways to get the pieces in place a lot easier), and since the edges are already so soft--I'm sure you've noticed how far you can bury the ends of it in stuff all on its own--it transfers those properties to what you've got selected. As Sheck noted, you can push junk fence edges into each other pretty easy without rugs, for instance. Super, super handy.

    Looks like you've got residual mod effects at 7:36 with the cans there, I hate when stuff like that happens and I can't work out why it happens on consoles :/ I might have to ask Vic about it and see if he can think of why it happens on consoles. It happened with Gary and his grass mod, that rewrote some scripting or something because even in completely fresh, new games he still gets it, but he's on PC.
    Otherwise, great build hun, it looks really good and cudos on the junk decorating. It's not easy to do a lot of decoration in vanilla and there's always the worry that it won't be where you put it when you sleep or have to leave and come back to the settlement. I've been trying to push through and resist deleting all the stuff I feel I should redo on this one as it's right at the point where I normally look at things too closely and then get frustrated/dissapointed and move on.

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад

      Thanks. I get that problem sometimes on mine when I build too much on too many settlements. (It's one of the reasons I tear down my builds after I've recorded 'em.) This particular build was done on a brand-new save--this is the only settlement that's built up on this playthrough. ;)

    • @jediclonemark5860
      @jediclonemark5860 6 лет назад +1

      Ah, So you're saying building up too many settlements has a negative effect on overall performance? I have something built on every available settlement in the game. Could that be why most of them freeze up on entering them?

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад +1

      Overall cumulative settlement size is definitely a factor, but if you just have "something" built everywhere that might not be the biggest issue. Another thing that freaks the game out is too many settlers--when you have more than, say, 20 in a given settlement, it starts going a little sideways... and if you have a lot of settlers overall (your total for all settlements is more than 180 or so), you may start having problems everywhere. Things like settlers mass-forgetting their assignments, getting stuck all the time, bunching up every single time you come back to the settlement, stuff like that.
      If neither of those are the case, I'd start looking at my load order, if I were running mods; sorting out the load order helps an amazing amount in most cases. If you're running mods and you've never "sorted" your load order, there's a template in this thread you can use to get started: bit.ly/2nMXnnc And if _that_ doesn't help, there are tons of knowledgeable, helpful people in there who definitely can. :)

    • @jediclonemark5860
      @jediclonemark5860 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the tip. I don't use mods, but I have Creation Club Content in some settlements. And since I play on xbox1 I don't have access to the load order. The game automatically sorts the order. I have noticed that reducing the number of settlers does help performance a lot. Since I don't want to start a new game, I'll try to make some changes, and keep most of my settlements under the original build limit. Thanks!

    Absolutely awesome, one question though how did you unlock that blue computer/communications equipment at 7:18 I've seen you use it before?

      Skit55 I think it's from the vault-tec DLC.

      It's one of the four pieces from the molecular relay (the dish is another), and yes, the console and dish are integral to the megabuild. To unlock it, just progress in the main quest until you can build all four pieces, then build as many as you want in any settlement you want _before_ you go into the Institute. Once you've used the relay, you can no longer build, scrap, or store any of those pieces--but the existing ones will stay, and they're indestructible so you won't have to worry about repairing them if a settlement is attacked (or a remote attack fails). They also don't blow up like the ones you used to get into the Institute--tested that one extensively with hard saves the first time I tried it.
      The downside is once you've built them and gone into the Institute, they're there forever. Only way to get rid of them is to rug 'em and bury 'em deep somewhere with a tall vertical piece like a conduit or the warehouse/barn supports.

    Hey buddy! So i just figured out that there is 2 variants of the "leather coat". One is the "travelers leather coat" and is EXTREMELY rare. Ive only ever found 1 in all my playthrus. The reason im bringing this up is that i noticed it has what looks like a beadroll attached 2 it. D u know if u can use it as a bed in survival? Just curious. It would b a really nice touch if it worked. Anyway, love me sum Sar. No homo.

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад

      Nope, the bedroll on that particular piece is just ornamental. They're not really that rare, though, Ben; you can find 'em a lot on travelers in the NW marketplace, Becky Fallon has 'em in her inventory from time to time, settlers you attract with the beacon are wearing 'em more frequently than you might suspect (I had one in two different settlements when I was luring 'em for the SZ build), and they appear anywhere you see dead settlers at the encounter spots--like the one across from Fraternal 115 and the campfire out by Concord. :)

    How are some of you able to place objects on tables and containers without them falling thru?

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад +1

      By never leaving the settlement once I started decorating, and never exiting the game. I only had to make sure it didn't move long enough to record the tour... and the one time I _did_ have to load (when I switched to the night tour), all the stuff got knocked off the shelf in the bar area anyway. :) Without mods there's just no way to make sure stuff stays put over the long term.

    Do you have a video that shows this ladder trick you are refering to?

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  4 месяца назад

      No, but it's basically an angled version of the pillar--group select, sink, etc. It's handy when you need both height and an angle to place something; gives you a little extra reach.

  • @trendkillcfh
    @trendkillcfh 4 года назад +1

    How did you make the high shop walls like that? Seem like they would be a pain to make with a ladder

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  4 года назад +1

      You're talking about the main workshop, yes? Those foundations are sinkable, and when I want to do this type of thing I put the roofs in before any interior details go in. There wasn't anything else in the way when I slid 'em up in there.

    • @trendkillcfh
      @trendkillcfh 4 года назад +1

      @@SarDeliac yes, sorry the area with the neon "shop" sign. You mentioned using the ladder/pillar glitch. Did you pop one of the deck/fence pieces on top of a wall and snap the rest in?

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  4 года назад

      I built the walls and the roofs first, leaving the gaps, then built a full-sized floor piece in another spot away from the main building. Snapped the railings to the floor, stored the floor, then picked up the railings with a group-selected ladder and slid them into place. That way the railing series is "one piece" and it's a lot easier to line up from either inside or outside.
      Edit: I'm currently building in vanilla on my Sunday streams (I start at noon Central) so if this doesn't make sense and you don't mind stoppin by then, ping me there and I can just show ya. :)

    Where did you get the yellow radioactive oil cans at 7:37? I don't ever remember seeing that texture.

    I don't understand building with junk when we have much better materials. This doesn't look like "Rebuilding the Commonwealth" but more like junkifying it. JMHO.

    How did you get rid of the original building that is there? I thought you could only get rid of it with a mod.... can't remember for sure now

    • @SarDeliac
      @SarDeliac  6 лет назад +2

      I didn't get rid of it, I just built over it. The original broken building with the main workshop next to it is the guard's gathering room with the barracks on top; you can see the original walls in the gathering area, one of the windows and the walls in the eating area (where the lantern is) and on the left side of the breakdown room. The original hut, where the settlers slept, is the power armor garage. :)

      Probably because YT is throttling traffic at busier hours now, and thanks to the pandemic they're pushing more traffic than they ever have.
