Recoloring Existing Art - The Mermay (LONG VERSION!!)

- I asked all of you if you'd be interested in seeing a re-color of one of your pieces of art. I had over 100 people submit images and then picked this lovely illustration called "Mermay" from an artist called Nimali. This was so much fun! My goal was to show how the process of using reference ( extraction) can loo in practice.
See Nimali's other amazing artwork here...

WARNING- this is a 2 hour video with no edits and every bit of my thoughts, fears, mishaps along the way. There is also a much shorter version if you prefer.
Not everyone posts the whole process. It's useful when some artist like you post whole process
Your channel has been one of the greatest discoveries on here in a long time and I'm SO thankful for it! Tbh, I struggle a lot with color and light on my artworks and figuring it all out so your videos have been an absolutely incredible tool to keep learning and improving my works! re: this video, I really enjoyed this long long looong format and seeing the whole process in real time has been a great insight. Also found it reassuring to see the back and forth and trials to find the right colors and mood as that's always something I get stuck and bit frustrated about when I start a piece.
I'm not one to usually comment but I just had to say all this hah anywhooo looking forward to see more content and big thumbs up from me for these kind of videos (and all of them tbh)! 🤗
Thank you for the video, watching the whole process make me understand more about light , how it works and think about it
This is such an awesome example of the kind of creativity that can stem from the free sharing of ideas! I love all the versions - together they're like a conversation in colour 😊
i can find any words to describe your efforts and your useful information in these awesome videos .. thank you very much jeremy ❤
I come from the first video, this is going to be great to watch and draw along with 😌
Both your final version and Nimali's are beautiful! Nimali's first (for us) version was beautiful as well, but by working with the light like that it adds a lot to the feeling of this scene. ^^
love these, I've only seen your channel a couple days ago but you really changed my perspective on colors! As a beginner illustrator extraction is something ive been doing without realizing what it was called lol. Been struggling with colors for a long time but im glad resources like yours are out for the public to view
Thanks for posting a longer version too :D
this is so good! i'm painting along in procreate while i RE-watch this. 😌 it'd be killer to have jeremy as a mentor.
Love this kind of thing, man. I love that I can tune in and out mentally whilst doing other things, or pay as much attention as I can afford. Your talent is inspiring and entertaining, your voice is calming; this is exactly what I’m looking for when I load up RUclips at night.
fantastic tutorial. Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks! I had fun painting along
I don’t paint digitally but the process would work for whatever medium a person works in. It was extremely interesting and helpful! Thanks for taking the time to put it out so anyone who wishes benefits immensely from it! I’ll keep watching, you’re teaching style is easily understood which isn’t always the case! Both renditions of this piece are just amazing!
I’m now at about 45:00 where you remove the line form and my goodness, your command of light is peerless. Wow.
I am loving your channel so much! Thank you for taking the time to share your ponderings. Amazing ❤
I enjoyed this long format. Watched the short one first then had this to look forward to.
Yes, I will watch the whole thing!!!! :) thank you so much for providing so much knowledge!!!
YES!!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!!!
I would certainly love to be your student! Please go ahead with this project
SOME DAY I HOPE TO WORK AT THIS LEVEL!!
whoaa namali 2nd version
Another great video. I like these long videos that you go into great depth and thought processes. Also, I do have Krita on my laptop, but my Wacom tablet is way too large. I see you use a small tablet sometimes, about the size of a smaller iPad. What brand and model is it.Thanks. Peace...Aria
I use a wacom Intuos Pro tablet, they come in a nice medium size that works well. I too don't like the huge ones
Hey Jeremy. I just received my Intros Pro M today! It.s awesome! I downloaded the newest version of Krita too. Wow! Has Krita evolved from when I downloaded Krita many years ago. The Bluetooth connectivity is really cool. Now I can use my laptop and the Intros Pro M as another portable digital art experience. Cool! Krita and Procreate mobile! Awesome! Can't wait until your classes start. Peace...Aria
@@yuginoty65 Yay! So glad you upgraded!! Yup, I just did a painting in Krita too this week (for my classes) and found it to be a really nice tool. Really an amazing tool... and it's free!
Another great video. God, I’m loving this channel. The problem is, I’ve binge watched all the videos now and I want more lol. Thank you for doing this, and thanks to the artist who submitted their work.
Edit: just finished the video. Your interpretation of Nimali’s piece is absolutely magical. Incredible. 🪄✨
its 3k
Your channel is so special! Genuine enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge and a peek behind the curtain of professional illustration work. Definitely glad you posted the full length process! Hilarious to see you go “Okay I’m done! Wait I need to fix one thing!” and then keep painting for several more minutes lol. I also appreciate that you acknowledge your sense of vulnerability in sharing your art process, even as a pro artist. I loved the end result of both your repaint and Nimali’s repaint!
i love to see your process
So beautiful, sat and watched the whole thing. Really enjoy watching your process, listening to explain your process hearing your pen, it's all very calming, entertaining and informative :)
keep them coming man, I listen and watch them in midst while I work, it helps. Especially such content coming from a professional like you. Thankyou !!
more videos please showing your real time painting process. super helpful!
Real time painting process videos are really interesting! I'm really glad you're making them :) I really don't mind the time it takes to watch them, I feel like you can learn so much more from it.. A similar video more character oriented would be awesome!
Also just to address the imposter syndrome thingy, your videos have all been super insightful and interesting! And having access to that kind of knowledge is invaluable for people learning on their own
I have a new, absolute favorite channel!
