- I asked all of you if you'd be interested in seeing a re-color of one of your pieces of art. I had over 100 people submit images and then picked this lovely illustration called "Mermay" from an artist called Nimali. This was so much fun! My goal was to show how the process of using reference ( extraction) can loo in practice.

ahh I love so much Nimali did their own 2nd version at the end!
Me too!!
Seeing nimali's second drawing made me tear up! Your honesty, generosity and teaching ability is truly something to behold... it shows not only in your videos, but you can also feel it in the paintings as well :) thank you and keep it up!!
The mermaid has the same expression as me watching the video 🤩 Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant, as always. Thanks Namali for being brave and having your work on display, it's AWESOME 😎👍
I think both paintings are absolutely beautiful!!
Very very inspiring….❤
Thank you !
Keep sharing !
Wow it's super exciting to see your process on an overpaint. Taking an already existing motive is good to focus solely on the craft of coloring i think. Sometimes i get overwhelmed with a piece where i have to think about composition, colors, lighing ect all at the same time. I start off with just a super loose sketch most of the time. Maybe i should put more time into the research part before storming into the painting bit xD
Amazing, onz of the best teaching videos I've ever seen ! Thanks so much !
Helpful showing the photos you got inspiration from 🙂 wonderful light to the painting redo and Nimali's redo is a great combo of their style and yours
Amazing! I really like your videos, they are helping me to overcome that barrier I think I have of been good at reproducing but not as good at producing. Also the fast colour studies are helping me crash that art block too. I'll keep working. Cheers!
i'm an almost never commenter who just has to say: you produce some of the most high-value, high-quality videos i have seen recently from any channel. your production style and high 'useful idea'-density are going to be a key reference point for video projects i work on in future. thank you so much for deciding to share your expertise, and sharing it so effectively!
This was amazing to watch! Nimali's 2nd version is so cool and it's wonderful that you included it.
The entire though process was amazing, a rollercoaster of information, so much value and real professional workflow gad dam....
thank you for including a short and a long version! really helpful for those of us with ADHD :)
I hope my sir you won't get tired of doing painting process with commentary,
because it really helps people like me that are easily blindsided on art.
Helps getting things straight! So perfect! Thanks!
Wooooowwwwwwww!! This is soooo beautiful…. ❤️❤️❤️
This channel is the best.
Wow, the power of critique!! Their redo turned out fantastic! The power of light and color.
Awesome content as always, thank you for the insights on how you aproach all the diferent stages of the painting. Im so glad i found your channel a few months ago, the other artists on youtube that cover color and light usually don't post anymore.
Being able to see how you research and use the reference photos in your work was extremely helpful! As a traditional artist it definitely made me think of how I can improve my light and color going forward, Thanks for showing your process!
Seeing that second drawing from her was amazing. She and all of us learned so much. Thanks for taking time and creating this content. The more technical aspect of art is often neglected but your videos fill that void.
Cool collaboration!
Awe her 2 drawing was lovely! Thanks for blesssing us with another vid.
WOW! Nimali's 2nd attempt looks AWESOME, reminds me of when I just got a graphic tablet and my first digital painting ever was an underwater setting having the same scenario.
Glad to see that young me did exactly what you with gathering references 😌
Would love to see more of this!
Beautiful work, Jeremy - and Namali's repaint is exquisite. So happy for her, it was a slam-dunk tutorial!
Geez... this channel is a gold mine. Childhood me wouldn't believe I get to watch your content... thank you for another insightful and motivating video!!
I love this synergy between the two of you to create this wonderful artwork that has the best of both worlds! This is so nice to see, I love when artists elevate each other! ❤This is what artists should do instead of using AI, definitely!
Wow this was great. I love Nimali's second version at the end! Lighting really does elevate a work :"0 From composition to adding/emphasizing the story in the illustration... I learned (and am motivated) a lot more again with your video, Jeremy >:"]
Loved seeing the research process here. I’m still in the reproduction of reference stage of my journey so really great to get a glimpse of how to go about creating entirely original compositions. Thank you!
This was great, thanks!
Thanks so much for this! I really hope that you make many many more over paints. You’re the best art teacher I ever had!
Wauw all of them are beautiful artworks, amazing how Nimali did a second overpaint. Thank you for your video
Thank you both for the video and all the teaching as well as for showing the second beautiful drawing! Seeing the process and hearing your thoughts is really priceless to this little hobbyist :)
awesome demo! Thanks a lot
Whoa! This is awesome, thank you!
This is a wonderful idea! This is very reminiscent of BoroCG's Over-Pain series, which I used to watch a ton when I was first dipping my toes into digital illustration.
Stunning!
Thank you so much for creating this!! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you thank you thank you.
That was really great, very interesting to see the original version, your version and then her re-version! After technical skill basics (and of course implementation ability) sometimes it's just having a vision of what's possible makes the difference. Keen to see more of these!
Thanks a lot for these videos. I always find that I learn so much from your videos. I am beginning to understand how much difference Color really makes.
yay, fellow smooshy painter here :D loved seeing your process of collecting reference, often not mentioned by artists!
Very helpful video!!!
This is amazing!
Cannot wait for your class to begin!
Im so excited about this idea! Considering sending something 🤔💭
Hi Jeremy, Love the video! hope you're doing well!
Thank you for your tutorials, Jeremy! Always awesome. What are your favorite sites to search for references? Thank you.
You're most welcome Jorge! For general reference of things like water, or animals etc I just use google image search. But for cinematic lighting reference I like shotdeck.com/ and I also have been collecting images in a pinterest board for years too that you can find here if you like www.pinterest.com/jeremyvickery/amazinglight/
@@LightingMentor Thank you so much Jeremy!
weird, i think the first version is the prettiest.
Yeeeey!!! Im the 17 viewer. Hi Jeremy ☕🖌🖌
Hi Nitro!
Did you color the whole painting on 1 layer? How is that different than coloring on multiple layers? I'm asking, because I notice different artists choose different ways to paint, but never really say why they do it like that.
For simple paintings like this, yes I stayed all on one layer. I will sometimes use multiple layers, but often find I can get lost in the tools and end up managing too many layers, so instead I try to keep is very simple and more similar to traditional oil painting
@@LightingMentor Thank you!
Hi! Second😎
Hi Lydia!
Where did you find your research images?
Just simple google image searches
Hello!
Hi GK
@@LightingMentor Very nice video and painting!
