  • The T2D Project is the biggest road infrastructure project our state has ever undertaken. It will change the way South Australians live, move and connect.

      it is not just one more lane, it is no traffic lights.
      As a commercial driver (in my case, busses), I can attest to saving time, frustration, fuel (money) and maintenance costs (more money), as well as reduced tail pipe emissions, thanks to the new expressway going north from the Brickworks market, all the way out to Gawler.
      I agree though, more rail needed.

      @@laok Wow, what a twisted way of looking at it.
      (it will work for about a month then go back to being shit) This is an opinion, not a fact. The expressway going north from Hindmarsh still works great.
      (if we had more options your job would be way easier) Well yeah, that is why I agree we need more rail. When the southern line to Noarlunga was shut for electrification, the roads in the area became near impossible, showing that good rail makes traffic lighter and flow better.
      We still need better roads though. What we don't need is people who only push one agenda. There is no "One size fits all" solution.

      @@laok HA! I noticed you edited out the You Just Love Cars comment.
      Fact is I got over cars years ago, and that is why I push for better rail public transport. This does not mean however that I am going to be an anti car wanker, and as true as the Jevons Paradox is, it is not the be all and end all of transport needs.
      When arguing for better interstate freight rail, a trucker once argued that it was a waste because you can't run a railway line to every business, so trucks were the only way to go. This is of course utter bull because freight transport needs road, rail, air and shipping.
      In the same way, we need more investment in rail to keep the roads flowing better, but at the same time roads must be maintained and improved to keep up with population growth.
      Try if you can to see the balanced view and stop thinking like an American would.

    You know what would be a nice? A bike path that bypasses cross road towards Crafers Bikepath up the SE Freeway. Because on Cross road you'll either get hit by a truck or screamed at for holding traffic up when the painted "bike lane" runs out. Useless planners.

  • @martythemartian99
    @martythemartian99 Год назад +4

    Must disagree with most commenters here, but only to a small degree.
    Firstly YES we do need more, much more, when it comes to frequent and efficient suburban rail in Adelaide. (side note: Over the years I have noticed one political party has consistently spoken out against rail, and canceled plans when they are in power. Please keep them out or try to change their minds.)
    But at the same time, I believe we can not avoid looking at the waste of time and energy we have because of an over stressed north/south corridor. Remember life before the south eastern freeway? All trucks had to pass through places like Hahndorf, clogging up the town and running slow and inefficiently. I believe we need this project.
    Don't forget, we need more and better rail too.

    • @grimsley9989
      @grimsley9989 Год назад +2

      I have to agree with this sentiment. There should be a north south corridor which bypasses, well... everything. And lets be honest, this will massively improve driving for all individuals. Not sure about long term viability as it may cause more induced demand, but it will work in the short term at least.
      I do hate parts of this project tho. It really looks like it'll be a car centric design over everything. I did see a very small tidbit about better walking access. but it was super insignificant compared to the ideals of the rest of the project. Who actually enjoys walking next to highways? I do wonder how disabled individuals are going to enjoy this.
      And once again, it looks like instead of taking cyclists off the road and onto their own dedicated paths is once again being shot down. I still don't understand why we have "cycle lanes" along South Road, especially when their only active during certain times, and then get relegated to car parking, throwing cyclists into 60km/h traffic; that just sucks for everyone involved.
      And I couldn't agree more with rail projects idea. There such a lack of meaningful investment over the years gone by. I hope things start picking up, but it feels more like a whim than a tangible idea that any major projects will be coming through the pipeline.
      Just to bring it home, I'm completely agreeing with you, just wanted to express some of my own aversions to this project. It could be much worse, but its still not great by all metrics.

      I completely agree, no point investing in buses only to be stuck in traffic, adding bike lanes and walk ways help for shorter journeys however I don't like getting Stuck for an hour each way on a 10km stretch of south road every day so this is a game changer for a lot of people especially since I go to victor harbour every day it'll reduce the trip time significantly. Should have been done years ago. And also our train lines are pathetic

  • @piknick3011

    just know this costs 15 billion: with a thenth of the cost it's possible to build an extensive bikenetwork with countless bikebridges over all our dangerous roads, allowing people to bike to places again. Instead of creating more car traffic, this would get rid of cars because people wont use their cars to go to work, school, doctors, shops... Less conjestion = lower travelling times and better air quality everywhere.
    this would make every car trip 20 minutes shorter, people healthier because of the better air quality and the fact that they can bike to places again with only 1.5 BILLION. That's another 13.5 billion that can be spent on parks, public transport and more effective upgrades to roads.
    T2D howerver: only torrens to darlington 20 minutes shorter, more cars worse air quality, and still no way to do anything without a car.
