I've found over the years that if you're replacing a single upper arm, the other one will wear out in short time. I always replace them in pairs nowadays.
And as for that pinch bolt, a cheap air chisel and pinch bolt removal tool costs around £50

I need to replace upper and lower control arms on my 2001 VW Passat and this video is very helpful. I’m gonna do it myself because I can’t afford to pay over $1000 for a mechanic (I paid $1500 for this car). Do you have videos on lower arms replacement?

Put the front upper arm bolt from body to face front of the car, so you save up headache and time for other people in the future, so they dont need to take whole shock/strut out.
Edit: It depends on struts spring size though, sometimes there is no room so you have to insert default way and take whole thing out.

Bad idea. If you don't have the special torq wrench with changeable head (probably you won't have cause it's fucking expensive tool) you won't be able to torq down these for OEM spec. But at least, if you putting back the whole assembly the same OEM way, you won't be able to loose the upper control arm bolts, even if you loose your nuts. It's dummy proof this way.

at first when you look at this it seems like a mess having four control arms but everything is pretty easy to get at. I have a 2002 Passat GLX wagon and I would do this in the front yard. The Alignment is what must kill ya I understand its four wheel and you have to adjust caster and camber not just set toe and go.

Dude I have no issue on my 2000 passat
Trick is the slots make sure ya drive a wedge in to slightly open as they are called pinch bolts they only need a nip ---not the full 100ftlb every mechanic throws at em with then snags its all up ---
Ps ya pay for what ya get I got cheap as low on wages now 2yrlater doing again this time will get the 600quid set
Also see the Bentley publish paper of setting the arms

My man! Great video. Any content on the 03 2.8 fwd wagon is greatly appreciated. Just completed timing belt kit, transmission mounts and motermounts. My wagon has 145k remarkably clean under the hood and throughout. I'm $3300 in to this vehicle and ready to purchase Bilstein struts and a full controlarm kit. Any recommendations on the kit? I'm choosing between the Blauparts kit and the MevOtech kit, ruffly $100 difference in price.

Can you please explain why Volkswagen uses a split upper control arm. Thank you.

Alright, I have done this but now somewhere in the wheel hub the car is making a rattling noise which wasn't there before. Do you know what could be causing it?

Update: bent the back plate of the rotor a smidgen which was causing the noise. Bent it back and no longer making it
