    Update: It has come to my attention that Oregon hiker Tim Reed was found deceased inside the Big Bend National Park where he was reported missing on January 23. His body was found in a remote area of the park miles away from the trail head on Feb. 1, and like too many other cases, it appears he died from an accidental fall. My condolences to those affected by the tragedy and a big thank you to all those involved in the search effort.

    People in excellent physical, mental condition, with great hiking skills, people who knew what they were doing went missing, no trace of them? Nobody could convince me all these disappearances were accidents. In my opinion there is SOMETHING taking people hiking the wilderness, targeting some of them, and vanish them forever. Very scary. Great video

      Most of the missing people were not climbing a mountain, they were on an easy trail, many were familiar with that trail where they disappeared from. It's not Nature, I think this is something more sinister, supernatural

      yelloworangered Don't watch the one where a paramedic in Colorado had friends over to his apartment. When they left helped his girlfriend clean up, said he was going to stay out for awhile, disappeared forever. His apartment complex was near some national forest so Rusty included it in one of his posts. There's a bunch where kids or teens and even a few adults disappeared from their yards, some fenced, some not, but all of the homes were in isolated areas. Don't know if yours is.

    Rusty, thanks for this interesting information on NP guests disappearing. I have, over the last several days watched every single one of your videos. I am a big fan of our national parks, but I have to admit that learning about these mysterious disappearances is unsettling to me. I was recently in the vicinity of Rocky Mountain NP and was tempted to spend a couple of days hiking local trails (before knowing anything about your videos). On reflection, I decided hiking solo without adequate gear, knowledge of the trail system, and my age (72) might not be the wisest thing for me to do. As a professional geographer, I would never start off on a hiking trail without a map. It just scares me a tad that so many people aimlessly, it seems, wander off and are never seen or heard from again. Great servie. Thanks.

    There are places I've been that are extremely creepy: Crater Lake, Oregon Caves, and a cave system in South China on the Li River. At each place, I had the overwhelming sense of being stalked, not just observed. By what? I don't know. Avoid caves, folks. Something lives in such places, and never go alone!

    • @poshlady43
      @poshlady43 6 лет назад +26

      Mr. Twain check Missing 411 books excellent! Also Sasquatch Chronicles, you may not believe in Bigfoot they are real. I just heard a podcast about how a gentleman and some friends went into a cave and ran all the way back to the park interest because they saw a 10 or 15 ft hairy man. It makes sense because if you were reserved pretty much that's probably what's going on is the Bigfoot living in the caves. Don't believe me just do the research! Have a blessed day!

    The end bit is very emotional, just imagining of it was one of my loved ones, and all them unanswered questions n scenarios you must go through in your head to try answer them yourself. The thing with never finding missing people is that hope never goes, that they might just one day return, even thou it’s near impossible, without a confirmation of a death, it’s always there. Awful awful thing to go through. So sad

    Columbia river gorge is a beautiful place. I live about 30 minutes from there and visit frequently, especially in the summer. There are some great waterfall pools. I've never gone alone though. Always with family. And id never go alone.

    The kid ones really get me. If my kid disappeared in a forest , I would not be able to stop looking. I'd live there & I'd be looking everyday , hurts my heart to even think about it... and hardly any news coverage about these people and children. I'd be livid 😡

    Another great video, Rusty! Greetings from Brazil! We too have our share of strange disappearances, but our National Parks have so little personnel, that most go unnoticed and undocumented.

    • @loditx7706
      @loditx7706 6 лет назад +11

      Gulkave No national park personnel discover these people missing, so high or low numbers don't matter. They might notice a car, which on inspection, has an expired permit and maybe check to see if the owner listed a home number or contact person, It's usually other members of a group or a family member who can't make contact with someone who calls in to park personnel and reports them missing. At that point search and rescue teams are notified and a search is started. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but from what I've read almost as many people disappear in your cities as our forests. We also have many people in our cities who disappear. If there were witnesses to an abduction or something like that the police have something to work with, but frequently, not. The difference is that in a densely populated area someone usually stumbles on a body and then the person isn't a disappearance anymore. That would be a good research topic. How many people disappear and aren't found from a settled area like a town or city compared to the number in forests or parks.

    Thank you for another great video, Mr. West. I've been watching these videos for a while now, and I remembered on one of the first videos I commented on, someone asked me what I thought was going on. After watching your videos, and listening to a number of interviews with David Paulides, I have to say my personal thoughts and theories regarding these cases has really evolved. Some of the causes I was sure about before, I now know that even if I was right, and that it was a factor, it was only one factor. There are multiple things going down here. Some are mundane, some might be absurd, and we might not be able to truly declare 'yes, this is a certain factor in the case' for a very long time. In the meantime, when you go to a national park, carry a GPS transponder, Mr. Paulides has said several times that only one person has ever gone missing who activated a transponder. Mr. Paulides also says he carries a firearm, a compass and a sattelite phone. These things vary in price, but any and all could save your life out there, and/or help search and rescue find you. Don't go unprepared, be mindful of your companions, and be careful out there.

    Hooray, another Rusty post!!! I have a question if you have time to answer. It seems every disappearance is of a lone person, whether they went out alone or chose to separate from their partner or group. Are there any cases, other than the couple in Joshua Tree, where two or more people disappeared at the same time, and if so, can you include them? Also can you give us your email again? You asked for personal stories a bit ago and I have one from my youth that I still think about frequently which was eerie, unexpected, and frightening, and which has never been explained I would like to share with you.

    The worst thing about the disappearance of Vadim is the complete idiocy of the local sheriffs. They used some drones and there were some volunteer kayakers. But we have a volunteer, established, and highly competent search and rescue that seems to never have been called. Just seems like the sheriffs wanted to play with their drones and play hero instead of call for the help of the experts who were better trained and could have done more than a couple drones could have. All they did was used their drones up and down the river. There are many game trails as well as hiking trails close to that area. Plus that area is an old mining area. So there are many directions he could have wandered off. The fact that clothes were found, it sounds like he got wet and was getting hypothermia. Had the sheriff's department not been so incompetent more progress and possibly a rescue could have been possible.

You have a very "down to earth" approach yet seem to be a great researcher and thoughtful presenter and host. If you and David Paulides collaborated on a project, I would pay good money to see that. I don't have any missing persons in my life. But I firmly believe that your videos help give light to a relatively epidemic of evil that we have in the world we live. These are nothing but acts of cowardice and inherent cruelty. It's unfortunate many are not found. I know that infrared cameras are often used with little to no results when looking for a missing persons. I do not known if it has been invented yet, but what about something like an ultraviolet camera. A much better understand of where missing people are often found might help get more people found. I don't know. God bless to you Mr. West, what you are doing is a good work. Keep it up. Your videos always break my heart every time I watch them.

      Your channel helps us remember the lost and hopefully unravel these mysterious disappearances, you do more by putting out these videos than the NPS do all together ;))

    I read about Mammoth Caves and they are vast with twists and turns and drop offs. Nobody should ever go in them without experience and other people with them, especially if you go off the touring track.

    I mean what is going on???? Some of these people get lost and are never found. However, the majority are just strange especially the ones that vanish almost in front of you. I believe that whatever it is, cannot be seen. Seems to be the only explanation that makes sense to me...

      +Jan Mayo The Bennigton in VT still holds top rank though. Although, the disappearances aren't the ONLY creepy thing there. Ghosts, hitchhikers, mists. There's an entire book dedicated to stories of Bennington.

    Thanks for sharing another good video, I do believe that in some of these missing person cases, may have ended up being food for the Sasquatch. Besides the wildlife there mountain lions and other predators. It's not safe to travel alone in the wilderness, National and State Parks especially.
