If youre reading this before you enter, remember in to moon phase, to look over your character's head. you'll see a black moon with white crest or a white moon with black crest. if black moon go to the white side of the map if white moon go to black side and keep going repeating till this phase if over. hope that clears things up.

this fight really is something amazing. The feels for a character I thought I would hate I ended up really getting to understand her and have sympathy for her.

For a bit of clarity, even after reaching 5 stacks and being inflicted with Doom and Bleed, you can still switch to the other side and remove the doom. It's the 6th stack that guarantees your death. It won't remove the bleed, however, so if a healer isn't watching your health Perilune/Antitwilight will likely kill you in combination with the bleed. As you said though, it's best to just never let your stack reach 5.
Went into this fight not knowing Zilch.. Funny. There was a dude there named Zilch. Came out still not knowing Zilch. Zilch quit before I got to know him.

After siting in queue for 30 minutes, my group wiped twice and people left and the rest voted to abandon. So...watching this as I sit in queue again. I think I understand the items I was missing before - the fans really threw me of. Thanks for the guide.
This is literally what just happened to me about 15 mins ago lol There's a hell of a lot going on at once in the second half or so of this fight.

Fantastic guide. Sailed right through this fight, managing mitigation well warned ahead of time.
Incidentally, it seems changing your stacks during Selenomancy will clear Doom. Best to just never reach that point, obviously, but it's good to know.

I just finished this for the first time and damn if this isn't the most heartbreaking boss fight I've seen thus far. The little "memory" with Zenos you get before her final phase starts hit me so hard I kept messing up my rotations 😢
you know Gosetsu is such a great character if he is compared to Zenos in her heart

In her twisted mind she saw with equal admiration goodness and evil and that is pure insanity.
Perhaps her only moment of sanity was when she thought about killing herself after remembering all the wrongs she had done to her benefactor.

Done this one for the first time today. Wiped once and it took me a few minutes to get my head in the game even though I thought I was prepared... I'd like to thank the person who gave me a commendation though.

I’m pretty late on returning to FFXIV so it was my first time, but I can honestly say this is one of the better primal fights. The mechanics are fun! We did wipe once, but after that it was smooth sailing.

Thanks for the video! As a healer, I'm still struggling a bit with this fight. Mostly I noticed people weren't stacking when they are supposed to, which in turn, kills me every time.

Just did this for the first time as a healer. Huge mess, so many deaths, but we did it first try.
I wasn't the only new one, and Selenomancy wasn't explained well to us. I assumed it was like the boss in World of Darkness, but nope!

I managed to clear this Normal trial on my first attempt, but I was confused about the whole split field portion. I had my assumptions, but this video definitely helped clarify what that phase was, so thank you for that :)

Still trying to find a group who can clear it, everything just seems to fall apart about 30% hp in phase 3. Not sure why. 4 groups with 5+ attempts, always the same spot for the raid wiping.
Watched this before going into the MSQ, I'm assuming I think I did everything correct because I didn't die and we first tried it. Well I did, I think there were Veterans in there waiting for a different healer when I Popped in, the healer being me. Everyone knew what to do. Thanks for the Video.

I was wondering what that moon debuff was about during my first run. The board had a Yin yang pattern so I figured it was all about staying in your own color and _avoiding_ the other when little doughnut AoE appears. I never noticed my stacks going up and died pretty much *every* time it happened :P
Not having too much of either makes a lot of sense for the Yin yang balance idea though! Thank you for the tips!
For new players: the waiting times for these mandatory dungeons are getting absolutely ridicolous at this point in the story
In the event you're unable to join a reliable FC, there are discord groups you can join to seek help without making large commitments ie having to join their guild etc. That will help you out and greatly reduce the wait times you're experiencing. As a WHM it actually took me 8 mins to queue for this duty. So I have no idea how bad it could've been for a DPS. Yes waiting for more than 30s as a healer means I'm spoiled. Lmao
@@itsthatsvee As a dps, depending on what I queue for, it's typically between 10-15 mins on average. The longest I've ever had to wait for a dungeon was 52 minutes. The shortest was 14 seconds. But both of those were extreme outliers that happen only very rarely.
I've gotten used to 15 min timers and I'm not too surprised if they bleed over into 20 ish minutes. On a good day, I'll average around 10 mins in queue. It's not that bad, if you plan ahead a little and give yourself something to do.
Most of the time, I just let my character stand in a safe spot and play some Pokemon or something on a handheld, so I can stay close to the screen and hit accept right away.
I just finished the battle and fortunately I queued only for 4 minutes, as a DPS.
Wanted to do it last night, queue was 20 minutes. Decided to try again today.
after doing the fight right now, I can understand why no one would ever bother with a stupidly hard fight like that when youre forced to clear it to keep playing the MSQ. Its like the devs just wanna keep the wanna be savage raiders in the game and weed out any casuals like myself.
Did this for the first time today and died four times. Three of those were to the tankbusting cleave because I just plain didn't notice I was in front of her half the time. (I also didn't realize they didn't come with a warning zone.) Easily my most embarrassing experience in the game thusfar.

and, I still died about 5 times.. Just couldn't get out of all the fan explosions in time. (Made it out maybe half the time.)
Nah, they're both just referencing the Greek, where Selene literally means "moon." So "Selenomancy" would be divination based on the moon.
Hahaha... I get it now.. You a big "fan"... and it's not just a "phase"... took me a long time to get it.

I don't think another fight in any other MMO has made me tear up while doing it the first time

4.4 Late Bloomer checking in on this. Not sure if there are any best practices to clear this that can be explained, but what worked best was running to the last fan that'll go off while the stack marker is active. that way we run as a group and split damage as we're running into the center.
There's also barely enough time to stand in the safe zone of the AOEs and run to the other side to clear Doom during the Dark/Light phase. Safest method is to not let the stacks get above 3ish so that there's a bigger window of safety.
the fan thing is mentioned in the video, but yeah not letting the stacks get to the point they're about to kill you is probably a good idea
One thing as a newbie (playing FFXIV since 2-3 months) i am wondering about - how often (average) do i have to defeat foes and let them get away unharmed or with a scratch. Will this ever get better? I defeated you! Yeah, that's fine, see you in the next dungeon/trial :D

@@NeoSaturos123 For an extreme, I'd agree. For a MSQ, I don't agree at all. Some people are in the game for a story and a good time. Not a sweaty try hard event that they can't get past unless they "git gud".

How did you make the party names so small? I can't even see the aoe since the names are blocking it.
3:00 This right here, alone with the stack marker placed on a party member threw me off so badly as a WHM because I had prioritized stacking up to share damage at the cost of standing in the AOE just because that player with the stack marker didn't know that he/she was supposed to move to the center.
I don't think the solution was to correct or berate anyone, but to prioritized doing the mechanics on my own so that I may live and don't heal stupid at the cost of me as WHM dying. I can always res them during a break in the fight.
I was waiting to hear "... and I'm not just blowing smoke..." XD
the only problem is if the tank doesn't bait away the Steel of the Underworld Cone everyone will have a bad time ):
first attempt tonight with 2 different groups, i was effing up big time with the fans , as of right now I still was not able to complete it lol. By the time I got the fan part together we were wiping at 20% ! so close .
the hardest part about this fight is waiting for the queue to pop -_-
I cleared it last night but died 3 times. First time from tank frontal cone in 3rd phase (I lost focus while avoiding stuff and stood in front of her like a dummy). Second time because she made wide raid damage before I was healed after resurrect (I think not sure) and the third I have no idea why because she died at the same time she killed me xD. Bothers me a lot now ^~^
Thankfully I avoided doom since I read a guide beforehand but damn is there a lot about this fight to remember...
So... I was looking forward to fighting this trial and getting finished with all of my MSQs at long last! Until I saw that I first need to grind dungeons and trials and raids for weeks to get enough mendacity to get a 335 item level. My ilvl is 307. I'm weeks away from being able to put the MSQs behind me! Why would they gate the MSQ behind item level?

What a boss, went in blind and died 3-4 times to the moon phase and then spent the rest of fight dealing 50% less damage due to the death debuffs :P
Wiping on Perilune EVERY time. What gives with that? Is there some way to avoid it? Some underlying mechanic that makes it worse? I had no trouble keeping my stacks down on the black/white. Is the minimal iLevel to go in really too low to be there? :(
OK, it seems there's a mechanic where you have to stand on the dark side for one of those AEs, & on the light side for the other. I haven't seen this mentioned in guides, but someone in my 2nd PuG attempt said this, & I did live. Same gear, but dunno if the healers were doing something different. *shrug*
Todd Morris I'm not 100% on this, but I believe antitwilight/perilune does damage base on how many stacks you have of the opposite debuff. I remember when I did this fight I was at 4 stacks on the light side and perilune hit me for about 75% of my hp at full health. However when I was on the dark side at 4 stack, perilune hit me for about 25% at full hp. Again I could be wrong.
Can we just talk about how the plot post-stormblood is straight booty cheeks? Makes the entirety of stormblood feel like a nothing sandwich if all the main antagonists survive.
Went into this blind last night and died at least 10 times. We finished it but I didn't enjoy it at all. I may try it again after watching this.
Blacktop_Shady I really enjoy this one, but MY GOD do the story elements in it make it drag on. The first few times with the cutscenes during the fight are neat to watch, but it's annoying if you happen to be in a PUG that keeps wiping.
Its much easier if you did Shiva (EX) [or even A11): she spams a similar mechanic constantly. Basically go stand by the last fan, and go inside as soon as the meleerange circle resolves.
For me, it was just one wipe, and then clear on the next try.
Also helps to have good gear, so you can do more damage= she goes down quicker= less mechanics to deal with.

Did this with a bunch of other sprouts. I was clearly the only one that knew the fight, and I guess I didn't explain Selenomancy very well, cause people just weren't getting it. Took us 4 tries on normal ;_; I wanted to say something, but everyone was so happy we finally killed her, I didn't want to ruin the moment. But geez people... these guides are only 3-4 minutes... just watch them!
nothing beats defeating bosses blindly... except for Extreme bosses lol
Many guides have spoilers, that's why. I watch trial guides, but that's just me. I won't watch a dungeon guide before I clear first time, I always watch it right after.

when your group is too used to the extreme version of this, your group wiped at tsuku normal.

Gah. How is it that I’ve been trying to do this fight ALL DAY and not a single party I’ve been in has been able to complete it. So ridiculous.
If you stand next to the first outer fan, you'll get hit. Better to stand next to the LAST outer fan, as shown in the video.
I wouldn't have any problems with this fight except for the last phase where she does like every aoe nearly at once. Kind of impossible to not get hit. I died near the end because she did fans into the stacked damage aoe targeting me. I move to the outside to avoid the center fan, it goes off, I move to the center to avoid the outer fans but not everyone is following me correctly so I die. Kinda bullshit.
Btw Mizzteq these huge layovers on the screen hide a lot of information, i think it would be better to put them somewhere else. Hard to see HP of the foe and action bar.
how do you know how many stacks of debuffs you have?
You can see it from the party health bar on the top left if you have it on default.
Like most status inflicts and ailments (If that's what it called XD) you can see it gradually increase
Just look how big the moon above your head is. It can be either white in brown circle, or black in blue circle.

Just went thru this fight and tbh, fights are just getting more and more ridiculous that I dont wanna bother playing the game anymore. Died so many times in that stupid fight. Had step of faith flashbacks where I died a similar number of times and I never wanted to do that fight ever again. I understand if it was extreme, but if its this hard on normal, then I dont see much of a point to keep on playing this stupid game since the devs are just wanting to make the more casual players quit.

I deeply hope that your Extreme guide won't feature waymarks or cardinal directions. The "left/right of the boss" strat is way better and safer than what other content creators showed, and now we have shitty strats running in PF.
I hate when they rush their video just for views and spread any strategy that got them the kill, no matter if it's the best way of doing it or not.
Well I understand you, but is it not kind of the point? If it helped them it might help other players. If it works, then ok? I mean, any other player who figures a strat on their own should feel free to post their own tbh.
