The first gang cutting of rafters that I am aware of was in the 1970's. I read about it in Fine Homebuilding and began making my ridge, tail and half of my birds mouth cuts that way. Larry Haun is documented as gang cutting rafters in the 1960's.
When I was framing full time I couldn’t afford this setup but always had it on my list… if I was still framing full houses I’d do this in a heartbeat for every job I read Will’s book and I’d be all about calculating and staging every rafter. His book was so much fun.
Awesome I have an instruction video from a guy named Larry who said it's the most productive way to get a huge job done. Not sure of the year, but looking at the equipment in the video, I'm guessing 70s.but protection for your own health is priceless, period.
when setting the angle, try tacking a guide block on the side of the bundle using your square to set the pitch. Then just position the saw against the guide block
Usually the price per board foot goes up by the length of the material. You should confirm you pricing on the rafter lengths and see if it would be cheaper to buy shorter rafters and cut you blocking out of shorter material
Hey Tim! Have you ever tried using a little chainsaw and the small headcutter for birdsmouths? I believe Will mentions it briefly in his book somewhere so i know its possible, just hoping to hear more details from those who have done it :)

Awesome nice control with saw. Thank you always informative.
Those 24’ 2x12s are over $120 still?😮 4:17
Great wisdom brother 🤙🏼
They say beauty is only a light switch away!
I want to try this so bad but most of our framing isn't big enough for this

I used to do that

Beam saw sweet
New Martinez looks good.. where’s the OG?
Definitely efficient.. not so good on a 400 year old building like I'm working on here in the UK..but, well done
scary
Jaw dropping efficiency ? Really ?😄
ChatGPT came up with the "click bait" title and I met it ride. My wife and I have been laughing at it since we saw it 😂😂😂
