You just plain sawed a quarter of the log at a time! You have to take off the bottom and turn the quarter after each cut to get the gain to be quarter sawn. By not turning the log at all what’s the difference of cutting it into quarters and putting those quarters back together and just plain sawing. Check end grain picture of how to quarter saw to see what I mean.

I'm a 70 year old man worked in the furniture for 37 years. You are so correct on everything. I'm so glad to see people still learning. You need to put that hair into a honeytail. Maybe 10 of them. I don't know. Don't be unsafe.

Check out Hobby Hardwoods on RUclips and their videos on Reverse Roll quartersawing. So much easier and more efficient than the old way…

Small ones just cut into 4 quarters would be ideal for making longbows.

Great video! Quarter-sawn Sycamore can be used for guitar fretboards, and it can also be used as tone woods (the back and sides) and for tops but the firs like Sitka are preferred more for tops. Once again, it's great to hear the sound of guitars playing when quarter sawing sycamore!

I had a clown Quarter saw a huge red oak down here in se Louisiana and he didn't have a clue and I'm still scratching my head figuring out what he's done. I have so much wasted lumber it's pathetic. And he was an old pro allegedly. What a joke. You've on the other hand did it correctly. Thanks for posting. 😊

Once again, the dynamic duo handles that big log easily with ease milling it into 4. I don't think there is anything the dynamic duo can't do. Another great vid Emerald and Jade.

An Unappreciated species, for sure, fantastic ray patterns. We used to market sycamore timber for flooring (40 yes ago) and it made the heaviest logs I have ever seen coming out of the East Texas woods.
