Too many whiny ass kids that don't want to do anything but lie and steal for a living. I am amazed at how much work these girls do and how hard they work. They and those like them are our future we leave for our kids. Our grand son was 15 y/o and could not fry and egg or put air in a bike tire. When I tried to help him be a man and grow up he accused me of damaging him. Ole well, he is like his daddy and has no ambition or morals! I could rebuild a car engine when I was 16.

@@mydearriley Also I wonder how they get a pretty professional-looking production. If anyone has done any video editing before, it's a full-time job so this is not something they do for fun. Also, it's no accident that they have their daughters as the main presenters of the vlogs. This to me seems more of a portrayal of the American lifestyle in a nice rosy view. Anyway, I like the channel since it's well done, but nobody should be equating this any more than watching a show. Actual loggers, farmers, etc. don't have time to do youtube vlogging.

I lived upstate NY and my grandfather grew everything, so you certainly can. He grew, strawberries, raspberries, asperagus, beets, carrots, swiss chard, lettuce, corn, lots of tomatoes, string beans, butternut squash, peppers, and more. He also raised and bred chickens, which he won prizes for. He sold eggs and chicken meat. He took a lot of the vegetables to a cannery, which took a portion of what he brought as payment. That was part of my childhood in the 1950's, By the way. I saw a guy on RUclips who grew truffles commercially, which are very valuable. Decomposing tree bark would be perfect for that.

Can't say I've ever voluntarily gotten into 36 degree water, but have gotten there a few times from thin ice on our creek. I normally cut out the morning dip about the time the leaves fall and don't start again until mid April. With less than 2 percent of the US relying on wood heat, it is always nice to see others using this low cost carbon neutral fuel.

That greenhouse reminds me of English Regacy era Orangeries. It's too cold in England for citrus to grow well, especially in the cold of the big freeze when they used to be able to stage sleigh races and rides on the frozen river Thames in the middle of London.
They'd have a dugout at one end of the Orangerie with a fireplace, the chimney flue would run under the raised bed of the interior garden and up the far wall. So the soil stayed warm.

I watched your "what do we do with our slab wood" video and I wish I lived closer. This fall I burned 4 bundles of mixed soft and hardwood slab wood which was about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 full cords total. It was well seasoned (11%-15% moisture) and burned fast but that was just what I needed for what they call the "shoulder seasons" of fall and spring where it's not cold enough for 24 hour burning but taking the chill out of the house in the morning feels great. At $15 a trailer load it's a great deal. I like your videos and always am amazed at the entire family working hard together to keep a business going. Best wishes for success.

This is really great to see....always enjoy your videos......your family life is awesome! Hard working bunch. I have been watching Russian videos to see another culture, so I immediately went to this when I saw it knowing how you present things.
    Best wishes from Maine.

Your living the good life for sure.
Had a chuckle when you paused before the dip into the water, not at you but at the memories it invoked of swimming in the English Channel.

Hiya Emerald, thank you for this glimpse into your lives. I loved your dad's mug, but only half full? I hope you graduate okay along with Jade. I know a bit how your cockerel feels, I'm 6'4" myself. What a great bundle of fur showing you the way home. Nice ring, I'm looking forward to working with turquoise myself as I train to be a goldsmith/jeweller. 35 deg in the stream, I'll leave that one to you, who was in with you filming? I need heat too much to enjoy a dip like that, but then I've a lot of arthritis and the cold does mean more pain, the joy of growing older. Honer your grandad while you have him, both of mine passed many years ago, and my dad back in March.
    Stay safe, Steve...

Nice to have a greenhouse,we made a huge water furnace, fire box is 42” and water jacket is 48” in diameter,a little pump circulates the hot water underground to the house and garage burning green, frozen, rotten wood which have lots of,you could heat the soil in the greenhouse by running a loop of pipe from stove into the bottom of the box you plant in.The stove didnt cost much to make as we got the pipes from a natural gas plant free, and you have lots of slabs and cutoffs to burn in it,the price of electricity and gas for heat is climbing steadily while ours is very cheap,I used to log for income so getting wood is no problem,I see your cat likes it’s tummy rubs too.

This is only my second video I’ve seen from you. The first was a very educational description of the properties of Poplar and of the hardness values of different tree species. Fantastic! The only other is of course this one where you your siblings and Piers show an almost extinct and forgotten work ethic. You are bound for an incredible and successful life! Please never forget where and who was there at the beginning.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Jim.

Home made tortillas are the only way to go. The flavor, the texture... that's where it is at. I suppose they could be better for you too since there are no preservatives.

Wonderful!! We homeschooled our 4 children including reading the Bible every day. We also raised chickens and had a cat that looked exactly like yours, and heated our house with wood. Our children also worked in the family business, and still do even though they are 19 to 24 years old now.

We have a box stove that is advertised as a supplemental furnace. We've been using for at least ten year. It will take an 18"x 8"log without a problem. What makes it so great is has blower that sucks in air from the back and blows it around the fire box. The warm/hot air comes out of an opening in the top of the stove. By adjusting the draft we can regulate the temp. of the house. We have ours in the basement and it puts out enough heat to keep the house at around 73F. with an out side temp of 20F. If you have a forced hot air system you can connect the stove to that system. The dip in the stream gave me a chill. I've been through ice a few times. The first was when I was about six or seven. I even managed to get myself out. Thank you for the video.

I was not one bit surprised to see that in the video as I have sensed something about you guys and if it isn't all of you than the rest are sanctified by the believer or believers.God bless you all.
