@Mike Yes. It is my least favorite of the 4. But I still enjoyed it. I don't think a person should stop at 3. 4 is worth the watch for sure in my opinion. There are still some good laughs and good fight scenes. They could have done without Chris Rock. But any time you have Gibson, Glover and Pesci on screen, it's pretty hilarious.
Four is one of my favorites. I know the series started very hard edge, but I like the lighter nature of 3 and 4. I love the family theme in 3-4 as the series and family grows. Love the Asian setting of 4 plus Jet Li, even Chris Rock, and more of Leo. 1-2 are great but more somber and serious, and I like how the series grows.
@Bagofsoup Yea I forgot to mention Jet Li. He's always fun to watch. Yea I think 4 is a good movie. I just think it tends to get a lot of hate because it just has a lot to live up to since 1, 2 and 3 set the bar so high.
That scene at the docks when Riggs finds out they killed his wife and then almost immediately after he finds Rika's body.....one of the saddest moments in the series. They took both his wife and the woman he might have had a future with. Throughout the rest of the movie he's almost animalistic. Pure pain and rage. Mel once again knocked it out of the ballpark.

My favorite dramatic moment in this film is the way Riggs recounts the night his wife died to Trish. He didn't have a sit-down, overly serious tone, with him all weepy. He told the story like he was recounting a shopping list, and was busy cooking, too. We often recount painful moments in matter-of-fact ways to avoid the painful thought. It felt so incredibly real, and was really effective.

Damn right their friendship had gotten stronger. Riggs saved Murtaugh and his daughter in the first movie from drug dealers. Before that Murtaugh didnt trust Riggs and thought his was a loon (which he was lol). They're like family now.

There were buddy cop movies before this, yes. 48 Hours being a prime example. I guess K9 and Turner & Hooch would count too if you accept the other party being a dog. But besides that I'm on your page on this for sure.
It is curiously, one of the only frachises in the genre where they're actually both cops. 48 Hours was a cop and a convict, The Last Boy Scout was a PI and football player, Midnight Run was a bounty hunter and his bail-skipper, etc. "Tango and Cash" was the only other one that really fit the formula; "Bad Boys" wasn't really a buddy movie in the sense that the typical buddy formula requires they meet for the first time, partner involuntarily and hate each other at first. "Bad Boys" was more like old, married couple as sidekick action heroes, like the first one could already be the second or third sequel to the buddy movie where they first paired up.
Just googled it- "Stray Dog" (1949) by Akiro Kurosawa (most famous for Seven Samurai) is considered the precursor to the "buddy cop" theme. I guess Dragnet could be considered in that genre.

In your recap, you comment on how well-balanced the juxtaposition of tones is in this film: action, suspense, thrills, humor, and even romance. That’s a nod to Richard Donner. He was a master of those kinds of shifts in his stories. He’s one of the all-time greats, and he is missed
For me, the quintessential Lethal Weapon moment in this installment is what is NOT said during the toilet scene. When Roger stops, looks at Riggs, can't find the words, and then says "I mean it"... Riggs' response completes the moment, and you realize that these two are no longer partners. They are brothers. LW2 is easily my favorite of the series, and that's saying something because they are all great.
This is probably my favourite of the series because they upped the comedic tone without taking away the serious nature of the first film. You can really tell how much more incorporated Riggs is into Roger’s family life and the camaraderie between them as characters (also Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) shines through
The Lethal Weapon franchise is just the perfect action/comedy series. It hits just the right mix of action, comedy and seriousness. The brotherhood between Riggs and Murtagh, the banter with Leo, great shootouts and action setpieces, sprinkle in an emotional hook of Riggs wife with him tetering on insanity and suicide vs the wholesomeness of Murtaghs family and it results in THE definitive buddy cop movies. It might not be Oscar worthy but it is damn good entertainment, that hits all the emotions and thrills.
The magic of Richard Donner! One of my favorite directors. Cast and crew have fun on set and it shows on the film. The Lethal Weapon movies, The Goonies, Maverick, Scrooged and Superman to name some. The man with the big booming voice will be missed.
Cassie, in case no one has pointed it out, I love the stylizing of your Popcorn in Bed titles to look like that of the movie itself! That is one of the MANY things I enjoy and appreciate about you and your channel!! 😁
I always thought this was the better movie of the two. Pesci works very well with the two of them. Thanks for adding this to your reactions. Good job. The third one is also good.
@@zerpblerd5966 1 is the best "movie" but I think 3 and 4 or more fun. They did what should be done with sequels. Keep the main points and origin of characters, but advance them and have something further to say or a different feel.

"Then they would be inside a burning shipping container..." Glad you caught the fatal flaw in your plan Cassie 🤣🤣🤣 The Lethal Weapon series is all hits (thus far) and its parody, Loaded Weapon 1, is also hilarious. Watch it sometime after Part 3 👍
I love that you’re enjoying these movies! Now, do you remember Maverick, the movie? It had Mel Gibson in it as the lead, well, there was a scene half way through of a bank robbery, the robber, was Danny Glover, and Mel, pulled down his mask and… there was a recognition of sorts. Breaking the fourth wall. I’m sure other comments have said this, but there it is, these movies are classic. Action, comedy, sadness, happiness… all of it. All four of them.
I'll echo someone else, you gotta watch Conspiracy Theory. An underrated action/thriller with great on-screen chemistry between Mel Gibson & Julia Roberts. Also, great that you're doing Bond. Definitely don't miss out on Goldeneye.
Conspiracy Theory is one of my all time faves. Steve Kahan (Capt. Murphy) plays Julia's boss in that film. Patrick Stewart was an awesome villain. Mel had a nice trio of films in that era (Conspiracy Theory, Ransom, Payback).
This movie was the best in the franchise imo. It had comedy, action, suspense, romance, drama all rolled into one. Including one of the most effective jump scares in a non horror movie.
The screenwriter and creator of the characters wanted Riggs to die at the end since he had already come full circle and got his revenge. The studio didnt like the idea so the script was reworked, keeping a lot of the dark themes from the original script. My favorite of the series by far! It feels grear when people watch this movie and end up loving it 😁
So the first time Mel took his shirt off, Cassie started playing with her hair with a smile... It is just so cute that she has a bit of a thing for Mel Gibson ...:D
The Lethal Weapon movies were fun... I liked him in Bird on a Wire with Goldie Hawn. He dropped off for a few years and then came back with a few other movies. Blood Father was a fun one from that stint.
Leo Getz introduction to this franchise was so great. The condom commercial, the drive-thru scene and the bathroom bomb make this such an amazing sequel.
Murtaugh's family is so familiar to a lot of the ones I knew, particularly military families. They are often overlooked. When I saw this in the theatre, I was a little late and walked in right during the opening scene. It wasn't until later that I learned I walked in right when it started. The kind of commercial the daughter did was a subject of controversy at the time, with debate over broadcast networks allowing them on TV.
I LOVED these movies as a child, and still love em today. All four films. The funniest is the 3rd films opening when Riggs accidentally cuts the wrong wire on a bomb in the backseat of a car. Afterwards, he says to Murthagh "opps." The music in all four films I loved to, the late Michael Kamen's collaboration with Eric Clapton and David Sandborn was AMAZING.
You will absolutely love the next two, esp the finale, I hope you'll have time to do them sooner than later, but yeah you'll be so happy as the story continues.
@@skatedurr I hope it stands up because 4 closed it out so perfectly. After she watches these and is convinced she loves Danny glover I need her to go watch the color purple and feel the confusion when the hatred for him bubbles up lol.
Again, this is from back when they made MOVIES without a HUGE budget. The Lethal Weapon Series is AWESOME. Like you said, they can make you laugh and cry. All within the same story. Is it Comedy, is it Action, maybe Crime. What category do they claim it as. Or do they claim ALL of the Categories. Yeah, that is it. Not 1 single category. ALL of them. And, that describes the late 80's movie classifications. LOL, but we loved it. Great reactions, Cassie.
Welcome to the family! I said it before; this is not so much a buddy cop series but a family story. All 4 are equally good and they make it easy to love every character. It really is about family. I am so happy you are doing these and I'm glad you appreciate them as much we do!
Good call, Patreon voters! Cassie and Leo is the duo we all needed 😁 You don’t need to worry about making too much sense of the villains and their shenanigans. It’s an 80s action movie so bad guys are bad, good guys are good, and the plot is mostly just a way to set up some fun with the characters! And some heartbreaking stuff too, for sure. It’s interesting how this series turns out, as it was meant by the original writer Shane Black to be a pretty dark and serious story overall, which ended with Riggs dying at the end of this one, but the sheer force of the chemistry between Gibson and Glover meant it became more of a character comedy, and for the sequel the studio and the director really wanted to lean harder into that side of things - much to Black’s disgruntlement. Still, you can’t argue with the results! Oh, and the whole diplomatic immunity thing is certainly not a free pass to all criminal activities - at the first sniff of anything illegal, a country would most likely recall the diplomat under suspicion and he/she/they would certainly be prosecuted… but it makes for a great plot device so it’s allowable, and making them South African lets the film get some great digs in about that country’s atrocious system of Apartheid. It wasn’t too long after this movie that things started to change down there, and I like to think that Lethal Weapon 2 had a small hand in it! Free South Africa, you dumb s of a b!
When we saw it in the movie theatre there was no Lethal Weapon 3 in the works, so we really did think they were going to kill of Riggs in that scene. We also hinted that to everyone after getting out of theater who hadn't seen it yet, just to mess with them.
Definitely watch LW 3 & 4, still great, adding new characters too. Other great Mel Gibson movies are The Patriot (long and intense), and Forever Young (with Jamie Lee Curtis). Ransom is also great.
I love it, you're beaming again. The look of absolute joy on your face after a movie like this brightens my week. Thank you so much. The sequels stay great right through 4. I hear they have a fifth one in the works, can't wait. Okay okay okay, go find a way to unwind now I could see some parts kinda stressed you out.
Another great reaction Cassie!! You will LOVE Lorna is #3! Another kinda buddy movie is Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro. Very funny with plenty o' action! 😊
BTW, the one woman cop, the one that died when the swimming pool diving board blew up was in several other movies you've seen. She was the foster mom in Terminator 2, played the female marine Vasquez in Aliens, and also played a small role in Titanic (she was a commoner in the hull of the ship). The woman that played the Lethal Weapon therapist was also in Die Hard and a few other movies besides this series.
Krugerrand is a bullion coin, 22 carats of gold minted to a precise weight, 33.9 g. Essentially a smaller gold bar. Regular coins and banknotes are just tokens; the national/central bank guarantees that the holder of those tokens can redeem them for their printed value. Krugerrand does't have a printed value, its value goes up and down with the price of gold.
Glad you’re watching these movies!! I have seen them all and they’re absolutely wonderful!! You should check out Tango and Cash! Also a great action buddy film!! 🙏❤️ Mel Gibson was quite the cutie wasn’t he?
(Riggs and Murtaugh knocks Leo Getz's hotel room 612) Leo Getz: Who is it? Riggs: Police. Open up. Leo: How do I know it's the police? Riggs: After I shoot you through the door, you can examine a bullet. Open up. Love ❤️ that line on that scene.
Director Richard Donner would always try to make the entire crew feel like a family. You will notice a lot of his closing credits for his movies will include a photo of the entire cast and crew sitting down for a family photo. Check out a little Donner movie from 1980 "Inside Moves" it's a drama/comedy/love story so have your tissues handy.
"They always F you in the drive thru." I was working at Subway when this came out. Subway treated everyone who worked at Subway in the area to a sneak preview. It was fun to have the theater filled with fellow employees.
And then you’re gonna love part 4!!! With Lee Butters!!!!!!! And the action is even better and badder! Just remember the dentist office. You’re gonna enjoy this one.
You really need to watch the entire series. Each one is literally better than the last. The Lethal Weapon movies were my dad's favorite movies. I basically grew up on Lethal Weapon among other movies, so naturally they're my favorite as well.
Fun fact: the lady cop who gets blown up on the diving board is Jenette Goldstein and she was the step mom in Terminator 2 as well as Vasquez in Aliens. The criminal who gets shot in the head on the drop cloth is Mark Rolston and he played Drake in Aliens, and the main bad guy was also in The Mighty Ducks (which you definitely need to watch if you haven’t)
Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2 are also fantastic! Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and Gil Hill are tremendous! The 3rd one is ok, though.
Great sequel and it's even funnier than the first even though I think the first is the better movie there's a dark bit in there about Riggs wife some backstory.
Yeah, the first one was great, but darker, as it needed to be. Much more comedy in this one, which I think helps show the change in Riggs. His life isn't as dark now. The first one there was some contrast between Riggs being a loner and a bit crazy contrasted to Murtagh's family man. But now Riggs is part of that family, no need for the contrast.
Three and Four are even funnier. You get more Pesci, plus some new characters. Still has their dark moments, but more of that comedy/action balance you like. Can't wait for those reactions from you. I check daily to see if you've done something new. Keep it up!
Make sure to watch Tequila Sunrise with Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, and Michelle Priefer. It came out right after Lethal Weapon 1. It's a really good triangle. Don't miss this one.

You can really tell how much more incorporated Riggs is into Roger’s family life and the camaraderie between them as characters (also Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) shines through
Wow, I completely disagree. They absolutely took away the serious tone of the first movie. This one was cartoonish in comparison.
Riggs @ 9:53 - "One day Sam, hey, this'll all be yours"
Cass at end of Fellowship LOTR - "Everybody needs a Sam" 🤗
This series has been my alltime favourite for decades. Just pure classics.
Riggs/Murtaugh, what a bromance.
The Lost Boys
Cassie, in case no one has pointed it out, I love the stylizing of your Popcorn in Bed titles to look like that of the movie itself! That is one of the MANY things I enjoy and appreciate about you and your channel!! 😁
“Just been revoked” one of my favorite lines
That line is great and beautiful cheese rolled up into one great movie scene
The addition of Pesci to the series was fantastic.
that Froggy speech
21:34 How to tell your homie you love him, without saying any words.
I always thought this was the better movie of the two. Pesci works very well with the two of them. Thanks for adding this to your reactions. Good job. The third one is also good.
2 has always been my favorite out-of all 4.
4 is great too. With Chris Rock and Jet Li.
@@zerpblerd5966 I liked 2 better. The first one was too serious.
@@zerpblerd5966 1 is the best "movie" but I think 3 and 4 or more fun. They did what should be done with sequels. Keep the main points and origin of characters, but advance them and have something further to say or a different feel.
@@jefferyoetter6884 Too serious? I know movies are subjective, but wow!
Great reaction as always. Kudos to your editor. You guys manage to keep enough of each scene to be intelligible and the cuts don’t feel forced. It’s a real art form. Easily one of the best reaction channels.
"Then they would be inside a burning shipping container..."
Glad you caught the fatal flaw in your plan Cassie 🤣🤣🤣
The Lethal Weapon series is all hits (thus far) and its parody, Loaded Weapon 1, is also hilarious. Watch it sometime after Part 3 👍
"But you're blick !"
"You are."
Best scene ever.
CASSIE, CARLY 'QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER' PLEASE PLEASE CONSIDER!
I love at 17:54 Rog sees the "rubber plant" and gets annoyed but a couple seconds after he can't help but laugh. It's pretty great.
lol, i love that part where Riggs is all "You know, you were right.. There really wasnt enough room. heh." So good.
I never realized how much the scene with Mel on the rollback is the mirror of his scene with the tanker in the Road Warrior
For an added bonus, Maverick and the Lethal Weapon films were made by Richard Donner.
the added sax music in that scene in Maverick makes me laugh every time too.
Also, when Danny glover says *that line* lol
If you love Lethal Weapon 2, then you're definitely gonna love Lethal Weapon 3, it's my favorite sequel of the series!!!
"The Man Who Would Be King" with Sean Connery and Michael Caine is a great movie
Good one to react to
Not too many actors could squeeze a third buddy in between Riggs and Murtaugh, but Leo is a fit, and Pesci is pure talent.
I'll echo someone else, you gotta watch Conspiracy Theory. An underrated action/thriller with great on-screen chemistry between Mel Gibson & Julia Roberts.
Also, great that you're doing Bond. Definitely don't miss out on Goldeneye.
Conspiracy Thoery, Ransom, so many good ones!
I forgot all about Conspiracy Theory. Excellent movie.
As for Bond… Goldfinger will always be my favourite.
Conspiracy Theory is one of my all time faves. Steve Kahan (Capt. Murphy) plays Julia's boss in that film. Patrick Stewart was an awesome villain. Mel had a nice trio of films in that era (Conspiracy Theory, Ransom, Payback).
Ransom is one of the most hard-hitting movies of its kind. And Gary Sinise is extraordinary.
Bond? Don't forget
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
This movie was the best in the franchise imo. It had comedy, action, suspense, romance, drama all rolled into one. Including one of the most effective jump scares in a non horror movie.
You and Carly together doing Bond flicks is a gift. Period. THANK you for that. Can't wait.
The screenwriter and creator of the characters wanted Riggs to die at the end since he had already come full circle and got his revenge. The studio didnt like the idea so the script was reworked, keeping a lot of the dark themes from the original script. My favorite of the series by far! It feels grear when people watch this movie and end up loving it 😁
Oh man. This is where you start seeing Joe Pesci. Great actor 😁😁😁
Goodfellas time 😎
@@Danishdrums She reacted to that already.
The Lethal Weapon series is an action packed romantic bromance. Absolutely love the whole entire series.
I'm never too old for THIS shit! 😉👍
Leo Getz introduction to this franchise was so great. The condom commercial, the drive-thru scene and the bathroom bomb make this such an amazing sequel.
Yeah, Leo Getz became a series highlight... Pesci's a funny guy.
"She made me want to go buy rubbers right now.", gets me every time! 🤣😂🤣
“Hey give the boys some credit you know in one ear out the rubber” 🤣🤣🤣
the "revoked" scene is cinema status legend
You will absolutely love the next two, esp the finale, I hope you'll have time to do them sooner than later, but yeah you'll be so happy as the story continues.
they working on 5 now, so Lethal Weapon 4 isn't the last anymore
Growing up with these movies was such an amazing experience and watching them over and over again never gets old. These three together is movie gold.
Good call, Patreon voters! Cassie and Leo is the duo we all needed 😁
You don’t need to worry about making too much sense of the villains and their shenanigans.
"Nailed 'em both." One of the best one-liners of any action movie ever.
When we saw it in the movie theatre there was no Lethal Weapon 3 in the works, so we really did think they were going to kill of Riggs in that scene. We also hinted that to everyone after getting out of theater who hadn't seen it yet, just to mess with them.
"Who'd have thought Darth Vader was Luke Skywalkers father??" 🤣
Good point, at the time of the movie's release it was as real a possibility as anything that Riggs would in fact die at the end. Great sequel.
In Shane Black's original script, Riggs did die
Oh yes, remembering when there used to be a long line of people waiting to enter the theater as we were leaving.
Someone did a little editing and showed what that ending would look like
ruclips.net/video/r5e-hPnsL7M/видео.html
"They've been decaffeinated" is a classic meme from that movie!
Definitely watch LW 3 & 4, still great, adding new characters too. Other great Mel Gibson movies are The Patriot (long and intense), and Forever Young (with Jamie Lee Curtis). Ransom is also great.
I love how invested you get in these movies. You’re a cool person Cassie!
Each of the Lethal Weapon movies gets progressively more light-hearted. I think you'll enjoy each more than the previous.
Glad to see you return to Lethal Weapon. 3 and 4 are both worth watching too. Something else worth checking out is First Blood the first Rambo film.
LW4 and the dentist scene :D That shit is something i can never hold a straight face on :D
The greatest of action buddy films & Oscar winner is a lot older, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid.
(Riggs and Murtaugh knocks Leo Getz's hotel room 612) Leo Getz: Who is it?
Riggs: Police. Open up.
Leo: How do I know it's the police?
Riggs: After I shoot you through the door,
you can examine a bullet. Open up.
Love ❤️ that line on that scene.
Glad you loved it. The whole series is great. Keep em coming!
Amazing action franchise which still holds up. An now one of the most underrated actors ever Pesci joins the team. Was fun to see your reaction
"They always F you in the drive thru." I was working at Subway when this came out. Subway treated everyone who worked at Subway in the area to a sneak preview. It was fun to have the theater filled with fellow employees.
“OK, OK, OK!” 😂
And then you’re gonna love part 4!!! With Lee Butters!!!!!!! And the action is even better and badder! Just remember the dentist office. You’re gonna enjoy this one.
Pesci is hilarious 😂🤣
You really need to watch the entire series. Each one is literally better than the last. The Lethal Weapon movies were my dad's favorite movies. I basically grew up on Lethal Weapon among other movies, so naturally they're my favorite as well.
Conspiracy Theory is a must see Mel Gibson movie!
This. One of my favourites. Julia Roberts & Mel Gibson work so well together.
Ransom
Fun fact: the lady cop who gets blown up on the diving board is Jenette Goldstein and she was the step mom in Terminator 2 as well as Vasquez in Aliens. The criminal who gets shot in the head on the drop cloth is Mark Rolston and he played Drake in Aliens, and the main bad guy was also in The Mighty Ducks (which you definitely need to watch if you haven’t)
When you're done with this incredible series, you gotta watch other Shane Black movies. Have a look at Last Boy Scout and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
The Nice Guys
There are not many Movie Series where it is good all the way through from Sequel-to-Sequel Lethal Weapon is amongst the Amazing Movie Series List
Do the whole series! They are all soooo good
Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2 are also fantastic! Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and Gil Hill are tremendous! The 3rd one is ok, though.
The 3rd was weak
Great sequel and it's even funnier than the first even though I think the first is the better movie there's a dark bit in there about Riggs wife some backstory.
Yeah, the first one was great, but darker, as it needed to be. Much more comedy in this one, which I think helps show the change in Riggs. His life isn't as dark now. The first one there was some contrast between Riggs being a loner and a bit crazy contrasted to Murtagh's family man. But now Riggs is part of that family, no need for the contrast.
Okay, okay, okay best lines ever. There are a lot of great cop movies. Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cop, great movie. End of Watch another.
Three and Four are even funnier. You get more Pesci, plus some new characters. Still has their dark moments, but more of that comedy/action balance you like. Can't wait for those reactions from you. I check daily to see if you've done something new. Keep it up!
And Part 3 has some Boys II Men in the soundtrack too. LOL. One of the first CDs I bought.
Make sure to watch Tequila Sunrise with Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, and Michelle Priefer. It came out right after Lethal Weapon 1. It's a really good triangle. Don't miss this one.
Love the professional camera and lighting upgrade!
We want CASSIE to watch Mel Gibson in *MAD MAX* (the original, hardcore, Australian indie movie from 1979). and also, Danny Glover and Gary Busey in *PREDATOR 2*
I know that I am late to the party, but I have been saving this one for a while. I join the others in strongly recommending the #3 and #4 movies.
Also, for another buddy cop movie that no one seems to watch is Tango and Cash. It's very much in the genre of Lethal Weapon, but with Sylvester Stallone (Rocky!) and Kurt Russell, though it's been forever since I have watched it.
Now you only have 3 and 4 !!!!
