    I hope this Fuji X100VI success makes other competitors launch their versions of such a product!
    I would like a Panasonic Lumix smallish and retro modern looking camera like this that is good for video as well. (and that has a flippy screen)
    Sony started targeting younger people with the ZV-1 and they should not lose momentum. If they wait any longer they will.
    I am happy for Fuji because with this camera it shows the boring beancounters in the corporations that DESIGN matters!
    And that people are HAPPY to pay a premium for design!
    So thanks Fuji for shaking up the industry!
    From a Panasonic S5 IIX user!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  3 месяца назад

      Yes - this is a great point. Clearly there is demand for a camera like this. So every system should be looking to this market

    • @boyantrifonov
      @boyantrifonov 3 месяца назад

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I love my S5 IIX but sometimes it too big… (pause)
      A small-is relatively affordable fixed lens camera 📷 can attract both younger people and people that have infinitely customizable full frame cameras with lenses, flash, lighting, microphones etc.
      The latter want simplicity sometimes.
      And sometimes having constraints reduces your mental load and increases satisfaction and usability.
      And if there is a big community with the same camera then things like: composition, storytelling and personal style become really important.
      You are not relying on the camera to save you.
      I would be super happy if Panasonic release a full frame variant of something like the Leica Q3
      Or more likely a Fuji X100VI competitor that is Micro Four Thirds.

      @JoseOnTheAir 3 месяца назад +1

      I was just going to say a Lumix LX100 III with an articulating screen and Panasonic's new AF would be my ideal alternative. Would be interesting if they'd stay MFT for non-interchangable or maybe take a stab at APS-C themselves

    • @boyantrifonov
      @boyantrifonov 3 месяца назад

      In addition having the amazing Panasonic Stabilization!
      It would be a dream!
      And if it costs as much as the Fuji - I would't mind.
      And another market I am thinking of is: Should I buy the new iPhone or get a great camera at $1600?

    I’ve owned several Fuji x100 series cameras and currently have this new model on preorder. Fuji has been providing for me what a lot of other camera manufacturers have forgotten about, the art of photography! It’s not for everyone but as a photographer who never leaves home without a camera they’re great! They don’t have to be perfect just able to get the job done! Fuji just speaks my language! I was a 25 year Canon guy who is happy shooting professionally with Fuji. Thanks for showcasing something other than Sony! Love watching your content.

      Seems to me it's a combination of hype and speculative buyers hoping to make a quick buck.
      When it was Made in Japan and hand-assembled I would have considered one, but now it's coming off a Chinese production line as fast as they can make them, I suspect it won't be worth the investment.

    The X100 is something that dedicated camera people have to buy at least once because of how unique it is. Then some are hooked but I think a lot of people find out it doesn't fit their needs. I had the X100F and generally enjoyed it, but the size wasn't small enough to bring it everywhere like I would with a Ricoh GR or Sony RX100 sized camera. The OVF is unique and pretty to look through, but aspects like parallax make it not super pleasant to use in practice compared to the EVF. Then you are paying for that expensive complex viewfinder setup. I'm glad it exists but can't see myself buying a new one... maybe a used one of a previous model eventually to look pretty on a shelf. 😄

    Hey Mark, I suggested on your last post that it would be cool if you can try to see how the X100vi does in a vlog style using the 28mm wide converter lens.
    I myself bought this camera, plus the new DJi Mic 2, and the small Feiyu AK2000C Gimbal :) the length of the gimbal would help keep the focal length further away from my face when I need to aim it towards me. Most %95 of my video recordings are about shooting what's in front of me. But I'm still in the fence about the 28mm wide lens.

    I'll be pre-ordering this camera (it's actually not yet available to pre-order here in Japan, for some strange reason!) for the following reasons:
    1. I bought the X-S20 with 23mm f1.4 prime lens to see if I would like the limitation and field of view in terms of photography, and have been shooting with it since that camera was released. My answer was yes, I like it (and that makes sense since I prefer this field of view in my cinema cameras too).
    2. I've got a three year old daughter who I'm getting interested in photography, and although she loves using the X-S20/23mm combo, it's a bit large and heavy for her, plus she has to look through the electronic viewfinder to compose. The X100VI solves both issues in that it's much smaller and lighter, plus the optical viewfinder means she gets a real world perspective on the scene, which I think will involve her (and me!) more in the process.
    3. I love that the main shooting parameters are all dials and not electronic. This is again a great way to shoot (again coming from the cinema world) as well as being great to teach my daughter the inter-relationship of these parameters in making a photo.
    4. Even though I know about colour and post-processing, there's something special in the Fujifilm simulations in that they are the only straight out of camera JPGs that I am ever satisfied with, without wanting to fiddle with them in post to make them better. I work in the world of colour and movie grading all day, every day professionally, so when I want to relax and take some nice photos, I like being able to put all that knowledge to bed and just get inspired by the simplicity, limitations and aesthetic of working with the "film stocks" of old. And the results are great!
    5. I have plenty of high end cameras and a tonne of vintage lenses as well as modern. I don't want for the ability to change lenses when I need it, be it for work or play. The X100VI for me just says "pick me up, shoot me, enjoy the process" without needing to put my brain in work mode. It's limitations, for me, are indeed liberating. Looking forward to getting mine!

      Well coming from you - that is major food for thought. I’m hearing this type of thing from pro shooters, like yourself. I've owned all but two of the generations of this camera. For me, it compliments how i choose to capture the world. I bought the V, on release enjoyed it, and have done the same with the VI.
    Reality is, I can't afford (justify) a sony, canon or nikon system. I can however afford an old Nikon dslr, buy and sell random vintage lenses, and own a X100.

    There is something in the water. Nostalgia has infected people for the last 5 or so years. Here's my reason for this strong desire for this camera:
    1. Photograph records, aka viny. Why? I don't know. I have 350 albums and rarely play them. CDs sound so much better, no scratches and no pops.
    2. CDs. One day those will become all the rage as they dwindle in production. Old tech strikes again.
    3. Cassettes. OMG. Did I have fun copying vinyl to CDs for me and my friend.
    4. 8-track. Why anyone would want this garbage is beyond me.
    5. Vintage cars. Now I can get behind that. Today's cars are boring. Grab yourself a Datsun 240Z, TR4, MGB, Lotus Elite and have fun. Also are those who love those 1950s Chevys, etc. with hydraulic lift suspension and skinny tires. Thanks to those who keep those incredible vintage cars alive.
    6. If only the new Fuji was a film camera, would love to see a resurgence of film where we had film stores on every block and labs everywhere. And the icing on the cake would be the re-introduction of Kodachrome.
    7. Now if we can get more kids demand music from the 50s and 60s, we would be set. Let retro Rule in the music world.
    8. The love of old movies is still a thing. We have to admit that the stuff coming out today really lacks. Luckily we have Amazon and RUclips loaded with vintage movies.
    7. Vintage cameras. We are at that point where people lust after those yesteryear cameras. I can't blame them. They look cool but really are blown away by less vintage cameras. How can you consider the clunkiness of the old rangefinder when Nikon took that camera (Leica) and a Russian/East Germany (forgot who it did first) SLR, combined them to make a camera worthy of going to war and being the greatest camera in the news media arena.
    We have gone full circle and now lust after an aps-c camera with a non-removable lens and a little tilt screen. This is where I have to say, at that price, NO. $1600 is asking too much for a point and shoot camera. It should sell for $1000 or less. This is one time I say a product is overpriced.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Besides being a pain in the ass, I love to do research. learning the history of cameras is like learning the history of anything of interest, and that includes music, cars, airplane (I hate flying), WW2, aliens/UFO, crazy stuff going on before and during WW2. There are many articles on the Japanese companies, mainly optical in nature that worked for the Japanese military that moved over to photography. You make optics/lenses, why not cameras. They were so good that American bought them by the droves. The Japanese optics were so good that Leica users bought Nikon lenses as they were superior to German lens. See, so much to learn. BTW, the Nikon F was the most influential camera, I believe, in photo history right along with Leica. But the Nikons were actually better cameras, better built. Japan really kicked ass back then. Imagine attaching a 750-shot film back on a camera. Wow! If you want to see these Nikons in action, watch the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. You will drool.

    The person I bought an X-S10 from "upgraded" to an X100V, he regretted it soon after, sold it and bought another X-S10. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want a crippled 35mm F/3 full frame equivalent when you can get an X-S20 with a similar pancake lens and have virtually the same portability, without the limitations and a lovely high resolution flippy screen. Personally though I sold my X-S20 and bought a ZV-E1 and saving up for that A7CR :)
    Knowing the ZV-E1 has the same sensor as an FX6 in a body smaller than an X-S10 is huge inspiration to pick it up and shoot!

    The X100VI is truly a Swiss Army knife. It’s not the BEST at everything but it’s so much ‘very good’ in a size that’s jacket pocketable.
    Was able to snag a X100VI somehow. Preordered when I woke up and saw the announcement. The 40 MP sensor makes the digital teleconverter legit now. I am testing out the X100VI alongside the A7Cii and Zf. X100VI isn’t as crisp as the Sony and AF isn’t as good but X100VI is absolute ninja of a camera. Can shoot literally unnoticed. I’m seriously considering selling Zf, Sony and picking up a GRIII. That is eff 28mm, 35 mm at 40 MP, 50mm at 20 MP & even 70mm at 10 MP.. and people may never even notice you taking shots. The hard thing about not going Sony is the AF & resolution of that 33 MP sensor are extraordinary.
