    I'm a bit of a camera wh*re and slept with a bunch of brands until I married Fuji.
    I was with Canon first 5dII was my gateway drug and then moved to the first FF MILC from Canon the EOS R, and then had a few affairs with the Sony A7III and then the A7IV and then a few times with the A6400 and it was actually quite good. Paired with some smol lenses, it was the best setup ever and then... Fuji Xt3 came to my life and then we got married.
    xt3 with the 27 2.8 was my true love. It wasn't about the size or the performance but he made me feel special... Using the big chunky full frame boys feels like an abusive relationship, my arms are always dead after a day handling them and I feel like I always have to overcompensate and impress because I have them big black full frames and the photos should look better and it is making me sad because sometimes I feel like I am lacking something and that I am not good enough...
    But the Fuji X-T3 was not like that. I always feel like my shots look better than the gear that I am using. He made me feel special. We now have 2 kids, XH2, XT2 and a bunch of lenses together.

    As an amateur/enthusiast photographer it comes down to a performance for the price tradeoff. And, you have to include the lenses in the equation. When I was first shopping for a camera I looked at all of the choices. Most bodies alone cost more than what I paid for my whole barely used X-T3 kit. And, when I looked at lens prices, the choice became easier. Finally, I wasn't interested in paying for something that was more videocentric. Don't know if I will be getting a new camera any time soon. The X-T3 is more than capable enough for me right now. And, I tried shoot a bit of vide with it using the 18-55 and it did a pretty good job just shooting in Eterna. I still have a lot to learn and the X-T3 seems like a good tool to learn with. Have a great week and a very Happy New Year!!

    I bought the Sony a7c mark 1 and purchased a Fujifilm x-e4 trying to find an x100v. I added a Sony a7iv and a Fujifilm x-pro3. I am considering getting the a7cii but hesitant to get rid of the a7c and x-e4. Although I love shooting Fujifilm, I won’t stop shooting Sony. As you mentioned, they both give two fantastic looks and shooting experiences. I am not an xt5 fan. It feels too plasticky. I prefer the feel of the x-pro3 in hand. The xh2 feels great in hand but it’s as big as the a7iv.
    I will carry my a7iv with my Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 for portrait shoots and my x-pro3 with the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2. For just edc, x-e4 or x-pro3 with 23mm f/2 or a7c with 40mm f/2.8.
    Having two systems is great but it is expensive getting lenses for both.

    • @Iamtongue
      @Iamtongue  9 месяцев назад +1

      How’s the 35-150mm? It looks like it’s too heavy!

    • @jamesbarron5590
      @jamesbarron5590 9 месяцев назад

      @@Iamtongue It’s great! It is heavy but it means I don’t have to carry a bunch of prime lenses. It weighs 1165 grams so a little more than the new FE 70-200mm f/2.8 mark II but less then mark i.
      On the a7c I added a smallrig grip and it was good. But it definitely feels better on the a7iv. But it is so versatile that it rarely comes off. I know you prefer smaller lenses but I would recommend you try the Tamron 35-150mm on a shoot since the grip on the a7cii is bigger.
      I do carry the FE 20mm f/1.8 if I need wide shots or I keep it on my a7c.

    Wow the video footage from the a7c II is impressive, looks like straight from a movie! Great job with that.
    Silver Argent X-T5 is unbeatable fashion-wise IMO. Also, not trying to be a fanboy but that grain looks quite pleasing from the X-T5's low light video, adds to that "vintage character".
    G series lenses are very costly, but that is expected from top of the line FF lenses.
    I honestly don't think I can live without the Film Simulations anymore, but Sony pictures look amazing after passing through post-processing.

    • @Iamtongue
      @Iamtongue  9 месяцев назад +1

      That grain is due to the XT5’s base iso for flog 2 at iso 1000. I’m a fan of the way it looks but there’s gotta be a time and a place. I would love for flog-2 base iso to be lower so it won’t introduce that noise/grain into the shot. I prefer to have a cleaner shot and then dirty it up in post to get a same result. But it’s awesome though!

    • @danielbogos263
      @danielbogos263 9 месяцев назад

      The grain looks good but its not ideal, especially for professional work. Its better to have cleaner footage and add this grain in post because you keep the details. If the grain is already in the camera a percentage of the details is lost and you can't recover. Hence why all professional projects, such as movies, documentaries, etc will prefer to have a good looking raw files video. However, for more personal use, yeah, the grain might be welcome in the raw file.

    Look how small the Fujifilm lens mount is compared to the Sony. Fujifilm have no right to make cameras bigger than full frame. You don't even get better tech. 😂
    They have BSI, stacked, and 40mp sensors, but not the AF or IBIS quality to support it so who cares? This is exactly why I left Fujifilm this year. They have made almost no improvements since the X-T2 dominated the a7II. 🤦‍♂️

    Hope this helps someone out.
    I'm a long time Fuji user, but never used the top X-T range, always the 10, 20s.
    Last year I purchased the X-S10. Loved the IBIS and better AF but i noticed i didn't enjoy taking photos any more.
    Wanted to upgrade, and well tried the Sony A7IV.
    Yes. AF was amazing, yes everything they say is pretty much true. The buttons and configuration really suited and made it easy to use the PASM control.
    But.... I ended up selling it and buying an X-T5.
    Why?
    Well for one, i love the build quality and price of Fujifilm XF lenses. So many people moving away and I managed to scoop up mint high end Fuji lenses for sometimes more than 60% off. Like we are talking almost no use, just because people move to Sony etc.
    Now I found a 24-70 GM ii for sale and it was only 30% off. You can also imagine my horror when one of the YT videos mentioned they use a plastic filter thread.
    The X-T5 also felt better and more premium in hand than the A7IV.
    I did the ISO tests, af tests etc and for me the biggest noticable real world difference was the AF. But.... it kind of made it boring as well, it was so simple and it felt like cheating.
    I'm not a pro. I want photography to be fun for me, Fuji delivers the fun factor, Sony did not.
    Yes I'll have a few missed shots, yes some will be out of focus, but for my purposes, its actually fine.
    I may still go back to Sony FF in the future. It will help with sports photos of my kids, but for day to day and holiday snaps, Fuji is perfect for me.

Love the deep reds from the Sony. WTH.. Sony been ‘acquiring’ color tech?? This A7Cii has been nailing shots and colors for weeks now. AF is super clutch. For me.. shutter is basic AF, AF ON is eye tracking, and C1 is lock on and hold tracking. ..some images of my son today few hours before sunset.. hair, face, helmet, hoodie.. all colors nailed w/ standard profile.

    Long time Fuji user and I was looking to upgrade to the X-T5... but Fuji's AF remains frustratingly slow and the low light performance is highly lacking. After much back and forth I switched to the Sony a7cii and I have never been happier. Sony's AF is simply amazing and the pictures are sharp every time, and amazing low-light performance to boot. It's also easier editing files with Lightroom and so much dynamic range to play with, something I struggled with using my Fujis. I have since sold all my Fuji gear. Now the hardest part is figuring out which lens to choose as Sony's E-mount system as several different option for each focal length, be it zoom or prime.

    I like both but really prefer having an aperture ring on the lense. One gets this with the Sony G-master glass but it is very expensive. My other complaint with the Sony is the absence of the joy stick. Vbeyong that im concerned the Fugi will be less functional in low light situations. Im stuck in deciding which one to purchase - still leaning towards xt5 or xh2.

      If you are worried about low light, incorporate flash. I’d be doing that whether or not I used APS-C or FF. Both would suck/ degrade in low light situations.

      Sony G lenses (not the best confused with GM), like the 20-70 and 16-35 f4 PZ, 40mm 2.5, 50mm 2.8 also have aperture rings. Seems like all recent Sony lenses get aperture rings. Nice features on the lenses too like custom buttons, able to switch to click less aperture, AF/MF switch

    It seems like a marketing trick from Fuji to try and compare the XT5 with the A7CII, when they clearly know the XT5 will be outclassed.
    Fuji gives you the illusion here, that the XT5 is a competitor of the A7CII at an incredibly lower price. But don’t be fooled.
    The competitor of the XT5 is the Sony A6700, which is not only cheaper, but shares so many features with the A7CII, that it too outperforms the XT5.
    And do not miss, that since the XT5 has 40MP it requires special APS-C lenses, from Fuji, in order to benefit from its picture qualities.

    The x100v made me sell my Sony a7c mark I for an XT5 and i have no regrets. 'Autofocus' is great, but as a hobbyist, autofocus doesnt mean much if i leave the camera at home! The sony was so boring to shoot with. The colours made me want to puke. The lenses (i have 5) are heavy and carrying even the small a7c around was a burden.
    Fujis have soul. Every picture I take is just beautiful straight out of camera. I never ever go into lightroom. I hate lightroom!! How many hours of pictures have i taken to never be shared cause the raws sit in a folder on my computer?
    The Fuji i bring everywhere with me. The xt5 is actually heavier than the a7c but paired with a 23mm f2, it feels like nothing cause its a balanced camera where as my a7c even with my small lenses felt so heavy and unbalanced and the grip is so short my pinky hurt.
    Is the Sony a technically better camera? Of course.
    Will i choose the fuji 100% of the time? Yes. Forever.
    I have owned/used the a7s a7ii a7iii a7sii, they were all great but i wish i found Fuji so much sooner. I was always scared to go to apsc probably because my NEX5, A6000, A6500 were all meh (i sold them all). Of course i wish the Fuji had auto focus as good as the Sony but the overall package is way better still. (As a hobbyist, if you charge money for your pictures than youll have a different valid perspective)

    Xt5 is an incredible camera. For anyone considering it rent one and see for yourself. It makes you want to pick it up. The better video options, the fast bursts rates and now flog2 make it a really incredible camera. I have shot portions of a documentary with it along with my xh2s, I have taken the xt5 under water it performed extremely well. Throughout my life I have used MANY cameras s5, z6, a7 series, gfx, most of the fujis and I have to say fuji to me produces the most pleasing image I can compare to cameras costing much much more. The x trans sensors are unique to fuji and are different from your standard bayer pattern. This combined with the in body processing create a truly special image.

    I just switched from Fuji to Canon R8 and there is a noticeable difference on every level. Much better low light performance, better DR. I even like colours better but to be honest I played with A7C II and I could get RAW images shine as easily as with Fuji. I have two kids and Sony / Canon AF level is worlds apart, it's not even funny. For basic stuff maybe I could still live with Fuji but kids are really demanding and now almost every photo is in focus. Between X-T5 and A7C II I would take the Sony for two things. One is size - A7C II is much smaller and for travel every gram and cm counts. X-T5 is almost A7IV size. Second as I mentioned is AF. The look, the colours, softer dreamy look of images - all that can be done in post process easily. X-T5 only for those who like dials retro feel and JPEGs in my opinion.

    Just a thought about the often mentioned "smaller package" of the Sony A7C ... full frame glas is usually still way heavier than APS-C to achieve the same results, so while the body might be (very lightly) smaller, you might end up with a noticeable more heavy setup in the end, especially once it comes to carry around 2 or 3 lenses.

I honestly did not enjoy working with their cameras and considering the hype for them and how little I enjoyed editing their files I eventually just started to reinvest in Nikon and Fujifilm. It still makes me laugh how Fuji was able to fit an AF joystick onto a rangefinder styled body dating back to the X-Pro 2 and to this day Sony cannot/will not do it. If I need video AF that badly I'll use my Nikon Z9. I have an XH2 and XH2S and I think I like these cameras more than my last Sony by a lot. Probably never going back to Sony. Also compare to the X-S20 - it is more hybrid and more compact, so I think more similar to the A7c ii. Then there are considerable savings, but for hybrid Raw shooters the Sony is objectively a better product. You haven't compared the IBIS, but I think that is also better. You can use the the old Zeiss lenses for a more vintage look, and the new Sigma/Sony G lenses with aperture ring for a similar experience. 4:09 but Sony has film simulations. They are named in a way that nobody will find them :D "Creative Look" and there are 3-4 of them that look suspiciously similar to the Fuji ones. Yes there is no halation/mist effect like on the Fuji but you can add a simple mist filter on the lens and - done.

    I had an A7IV. I got bored with it. It’s just too clinical. It has no soul. It kind of makes it boring. Picked up a Canon r6ii and hated it. So sold that and now I’m on an xt5 and so far I’m in love with it. I kind of wanted the x100vi but I didn’t preorder it so there’s no way I’m getting one until later this year or even longer. So I just got the xt5 instead. I considered the a7cii and cr but those are just compact versions of existing cameras and I wasn’t all too excited about what I got out of the A7IV already. The ibis in the xt5 is unbelievable. You can take handheld lowlight shots at 1 second that are sharp. Plus with the firmware update that fixed the autofocus, it’s super snappy now.

      @@Iamtongue I liked both the R6II and the A7IV well enough, and looking back I liked the Sony better, but the images from both of them never really felt unique to me. They both made me feel like I could get the same results from my phone for the most part outside of the zoom I could get with a telephoto. I know they both have much better iq than that but they just never inspired me. I shot an event with the xt5 yesterday and man, I was so impressed with the results. The images just look so unique in comparison. I used a few film recipes and tweaked them lightly in post and that was it. I delivered them at the end of the day and everyone was really impressed. With the Sony and the canon i would always get a thank you for shooting but never any comments on how the photos looked. This time was different, and that made me feel like I could make a name for myself based on a unique look that I’d be able to deliver. The physical nature of the Fuji also made me feel like I was actually doing something rather than just pushing a button too. Like I had more control over the outcome.

    OK the XT5 is indeed much prettier and has a much better EVF. THE END! I really would L O V E to know what is the point of these videos and comparisons when the facts are the facts and FF is always better not to mention that technically the Sony is years ahead of anything Fujifilm so far has been able to come, up with. And no, I am not a Sony shooter but only blind people can't clearly see this while keep on insisting that APS-C "is about the same" as anything FF. Is not! And that, stepping up, is exactly why the same reasoning that Fuji films medium format is far and away superior to full frame itself applies. Same thing. So, Fujifilm claims how much better their MG gear is compared to FF, while at the exact same time advertising that they're APS-C is just as good as FF. And people eat this garbage, how hilarious is that? And IQ aside, the supposed advantage physical and economic advantage of APS-C is equally null. Just look at these cameras! Look.. is the XT5 with lens lighter or smaller or cheaper? N O ! What is the point of all of this? Even the original a7C with for example an equivalent 28mm F1.8 lens beats the performance of the XT5 front, left and right with an equivalent (and absurdly overpriced and hyped) XF 18mm F1.4 (that in FF is equal to F2.2 anyway). And not to mention that if you get an original a7C body + lens second hand, it will cost you less than half of what the XT5 + lens costs. When will people wake up and realize the utterly absurd and proposterous pricing of Fujifilm APS-C gear these days? The early digital days of big heavy expensive FF gear versus then the much cheaper smaller and lighter APS-C stuff are LONG FAR AWAY in the past and stopped making any kind of sense years ago. And let's not even talk about people paying above retail these days to get a (same as 1, S, T, F, V) X-100VI and some even $18000 for limited edition. Really? About the price of (3) Full Frame Leica Qs? Honestly honestly honestly.........
    PS - I have nothing against Fujifilm, have an X-Pro 2 and a few lenses that I much enjoy and honestly could care less that people choose to do with their money and photographic talents. But living in the world of REALITY is an excellent thing! I am appalled at how much mental blindness affects so many that keep on insisting on Fujifilm APS-C gear like it's a religion while Fujifilm is laughing all the way and can't run to the bank or count the money coming in fast enough. Grow up and please insult away because that's surely the only thing left.

    You forgot the size of the lenses. Sony lenses are generally larger than the Fujis. You have to go with 3rd party lenses to go small with Sony. But if you want top-quality G Master lenses, then those are larger than Fuji's top-quality glasses.

      I'm a Fujifilm shooter but I don't think so. If you compare the Fuji 23/1,4 with the Sony 35/1,8 the Sony is lighter.
      Same with the 50-140/2,8 to the 70-200/4. The Sony is lighter.
      Of course if you compare 2,8 with 2,8 Fujifilm is lighter but the depth of field would be different.

      @@Schwermetall in terms of evaluating apsc to ff glass I think exposure > bokeh. That 2.8 is huge.

      @@majororgansno, you have to multiply both focal length and aperture by the crop factor for a proper comparison. It is how the physics of light works and is not a subjective thing.
      This is why FF cameras generally have about a 1 stop advantage in low light (all else being equal). They simply gather more light on their larger sensor.

    Nice summary - similar to a comparisson between Sony and Fuji that I wrote up on Medium. I was turned off by the plastic feel to the XT5 after owning the XT3 and XT4 though. I prefer the full frame image quality but I shoot RAW and not JPEG. I don’t mind the A7Cii EVF after comparing it to my XT30ii (which has the same EVF as a lot of Fuji cameras) but it would have been much nicer if they put the A7IV EVF in it.

      Are you OK with Sony colors compared to Fuji jpegs?

    • @anthonystonehouse
      @anthonystonehouse 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@nivin3 yes as long as you get a new Sony camera the colours are fine. I shoot raw and use RNI film simulations, I can pretty much match Fuji film sims as needed. I’ve read you can do similar things to jpegs but Fuji does offer the more customisable JPEGs recipes if you like to do everything in camera.
