Something that people don’t realise of being a young artist is that it’s not always a consistent ride. Sometimes you just don’t feel like it and aren’t inspired. As someone who has struggled a lot with this feeling, i just want to let other know that it’s okay to take breaks even for a longer period. It’s something you shouldn’t feel bad about. The way I see it, these ups and downs are just normal. Take care of yourself and your mind and don’t feel pressured! Btw your art is really inspiring, so glad I found your channel Matthew!
Thank you so much for this reminder! Sometimes I just forget that amd when I see other artists I also forget that they also have problems and that I am not alone!
I took a break from art for a while too, but for me it was all throughout high school (excluding freshman year art classes). But with me starting senior year, i want to get back into art again and plus i’m starting to enjoy art again.....also i was able to stumble across ur yt channel and i’m glad for that cuz your arts style is really nice and inspiring :))
I felt what you said about losing love for art because of constantly trying to get better. Luckily I'm slowly recovering from that very dark phase but its nice hearing you aren't alone in these things.
Sameee🥺 he’s so relatable and real the advice at the end was perfect I feel like his channel is just a safe space and is definitely helping me get back into my art😌
@@deborahe3437 Honestly tho. Like he makes me remember that art isnt about being perfect and it's about expression too. Granted the kind of work I make is noticeably different but that's why I enjoy his videos, its always like a fresh view for me.
Essentially Leon yesss I’m such a perfectionist and end up not liking a lot of my work but I love seeing his unique style and it’s inspired me to get out my comfort zone and just do art for me without the pressure
There's sooo much variety in your sketchbook, and I love how you add tiny wrappers and cutouts (the movie tickets wow). Most sketchbook tours display a series of finished pieces, all having a consistent style, and tbh its kinda intimidating when people expect a perfect piece on each page. Your sketchbook had a lot of thumbnails and sketches and then the finished pieces and that was extremely fun to watch! (the aesthetics being an added bonus) This was extremely refreshing and it's inspired me to be more diverse, and explore more art styles. Thank you!
I really like how diverse your sketchbook is. It's so colorful and full of mixed media...Mine's is filled with only graphite and colored pencil art... Also, I really like how the fruits look at 5:10. They look really cool.
You videos make me so so motivated!! I always start sketching right after watching:) not just because of your art but also because you're absolutly nice and sympathetic
Hey Matthew, I’ve been a fan of your art and a subscriber for a while and I just came across a tiktok of yours earlier. You drew a picture of a hijabi (yay!!) and I wanted to say thankyouu! That made me unbelievably happy!
I understand how you feel. Its my senior year and I didn't take an art class either. I've always taken art as one of my classes since middle school so I feel weird not having it this year. It is true though, I also felt like art wasn't fun anymore so I actually stopped drawing my Jr. Year towards the end. I felt that I was pressured towards drawing/painting the way others did which was something I never cared about, including what other people thought about my art pecies. I used to always go off on my imagination and paint whatever came to mind. This all changed during sophomore year on one of my art competitions. I saw some people looking at my painting so I went to go see what they were saying about it and after hearing what they said it broke my heart. I then was discouraged and felt like my art wasn't good enough. Thankfully, I managed to lift myself up and now I have started to draw and paint again little by little, but I made the decision to not take the class this year for the sake of not being discouraged again.
You radiate such a positive vibe and also trough your art like your use of colour and the concepts are so vibrant and fun! oh and also never feel sorry for not sharing personal matters, i totally get it. im always so hesitant to show my family and friends my sketchbook because i use it sometimes as a diary and even my drawings are really personal so idk I also wanted to say that seeing you improve and work to be am artist inspires me a lot and dude that ending felt like a real person to person talk. regards from Madrid!
I love how you’re consistent with your work even when you experience the struggle of getting back with the art vibe. You’re totally right about being apart with your art for a lil’ bit after some high then you feel burnout. The space makes you more appreciative and miss it.
Your sketchbook tours always make me so happy. Your art is so cool and chill and friendly, and I get the impression that you are as well. Thank you for sharing both your sketchbook and your thoughts with us!
Awesome sketchbook!! Love the colours!! Can’t believe your only a year older than me and already have amazing art!! P.s Rex Orange County and peach tree rascals are just 👌🏽😌
I love these kind of sketchbook tour videos..as an artist I know sketchbooks can be really personal..it's like looking inside the brain and heart of Artist ...and I love how every page you flip.. it's entire new dimension or era...I really loved you style and I'm inspired by this♥️
Great video I definitely agree with what you said about taking a break to find your love for art again :) can’t wait to see what you have planned for this year!
College board literally made every student in my AP drawing class burn out and hate art. I took all 3 AP art classes and in the end I wasn't happy with most of my work.

wow, your artwork is so inspiring. i used to draw all the time in middle school but i stopped because i “have no time” but i know i do, i just spend my time doing other things now. but honestly seeing your sketchbook makes me wanna draw again
your sketchbook also doubling as something of a journal is so nice. i'm so inspired by your art and i low key wanna start drawing again even though i know it'll never be good, lol
