I have a CLK-220 CDi rocking an OM-646 Diesel and I can say Mercedes-Benz rule the Diesel world. Also got a 190-D with an OM-601...slow but built like a tank.
I have one of these cars and I really think it is the best car ever engineered. I 44mpg cruising at 80mph, I can get alomost 50mpg at the speed limit and it will outrun the Mercedes with the 5.5 liter V8's, it can outrun the 392 HEMI's on the open road, you need the supercharged V8 to beat the diesel and if you hot rod the diesel it will still take it. Plus running on high performance renewable diesel the emission out the tail pipe are way down, you crank up the fuel and boost and still avoid smoking with renewable diesel;. Plus these cars are cheap. People who failed to buy they at the time really missed out.
I have this car. Most of what you say is BS. no 44mpg at 80. 50mpg yeah right. its not outrunning a 392. You are not cranking up the fuel and boost without reprogramming the ECU How old are you? 20's? lol What are you smoking?
Better fuel mileage, longer lasting motor if treated well, and deleted of all the emissions. I don’t see how they could be so much more expensive in the long haul.
Which is all due to politicians being technically illiterate. The DPF diesels with urea are CLEANER than gas cars. Stay behind a modern diesel with a dpf (even without urea injection), sniff the air, nothing. Do the same with a gas car, and you'll easily smell the fumes. Crazy how much better diesel emissions changed in 20 years.
I mean even if that's true, the odds are that you could slip past any enforcement since these cars hide being a diesel very well. As opposed to a jacked up 7.3l Or similar diesel pick up truck.

They’re definitely not cheap compared any other W211, excluding AMG’s.
It will outrun the e55 in gas milage yes. But not acceleration
