- Driving across Central America involves a lot of borders. Today we are crossing from Nicaragua to Costa Rica, our 7th border crossing in our road trip from USA to Panama. Then we pick up our cousin Andra at the airport and head out to the Nicoya Peninsula.

Great video, Thanks. ¡Pura vida!
It a super fun, relatively easy area to travel through. Enjoy!
Pura vida yo vivo en NJ y voy hacerlo que documentos para un carro con placas de acá necesitas? Y aproximadamente cuánto costaría ese viaje en una 2004 Nissan Xterra? Gracias te agradeciera esa información

The next life won't be better? I pray it's they're second best life. HEAVEN with JESUS CHRIST is the best life.
Ended too soon I wanted more! Love your graphics including the Andra dance. Everything looked smooth, even the waves. Matt’s such a good surfer
Stumbled upon your channel and now I’m hooked. Lol. 6 episodes in and thinking of just starting from the beginning.
Glad you're enjoying the show!
Be warned our equipment and skills have improved over time, so the begging of the series is a bit rough, but it's all there for those who are interested. 😁

His mustache cracks me up😂
Unfortunately there's a new building on the Nica side. But great video!!!

Happy for you hard work
Long time follower here can’t believe it’s almost gunna be a year of travel that’s awesome! I had a question, out of all the countries you’ve travelled through which one has been the overall cheapest?
Mexico was the cheapest. It is big though, so you could easily sink any money you were saving on food and lodging into the gas tank if you travel fast. Thanks for watching.
What is the cost of the car insurance you needed to buy in costa rica. Thanks. Great informative video.
Sorry. I can't recall with confidence. I think it was around $20 usd
Good job guys !
Wow ! Border crossings are such a pain and sound like a crash course in inefficiency. With all those idling trucks it must be costly to do international trade. Did you have to go through the same process on your return or did you ship your truck by sea? Thanks for the ride
"A crash course in inefficiency" exactly! haha
We drove back north to the USA and had to go back through many of the borders, but we chose not to return to Belize or El Salvador on our way north. Partially because we didn't want to do the extra borders and partially because they are both small countries and felt that we got to see a decent amount of each of them on our previous visits.
How many fake traffic tickets 🎫 did you get in Nicaragua 🇳🇮? . You got to love ❤️ bureaucracy with all those papers at the border.
None!
We were stopped by the police many times, which I know is normal, but they never actually gave us a ticket. Super lucky
They got me with one for 50$ :/ and tried again that time i said “ no infraction “ lol it worked
Pura vida it is !! Great info regarding the NIC-CR border. Keep 'm coming pronto por favor;-)
Will do my best. Just released one today
What a place you guys chose for the first night , I tell you I'm a tico and will be scared to use those bathrooms 🚻
😂 All part of the adventure
Budget!!
Gotta luv it
Hello! I’m planning on driving my own car from us to Costa Rica very soon. Just wanted to know what I might need like passport, car registration, title, car insurance, etc. I’ve never done this before so I’m a bit nervous. How much $ did all the tolls and borders plus paper work cost you? I’m going alone and hoping I will not have any extreme difficulties, but of course traveling that’s how it will always be lol!
I did this trip a few years ago. You will probably find more uptodate info on wikioverlnad.org or on the pan american travelers Facebook group.
Have a great trip!
Good video friends 👍🇲🇽
need nightvision footage of the bathrooms! lol
haha
Need more money
Cool channel
Did you feel safe driving through Mexico and Nicaragua I’m getting ready to move there to Costa Rica
Yeah, just as safe as usa or costa rica.
safe travels
Es mas verde Costa Rica que Nicaragua porque es mas alto y el clima es mas fresco.
Creo que es mas lluvia y menos viento
Exactly CR it’s much elevated than Nicaragua but I love Nicaragua more because it’s mostly flat some mountains only in the North in El Crucero Carretera Sur going to Las Nubes it’s elevated and it’s just like Costa Rica cold and rain forest by the way that beach where you stop and all Wanacaste, Liberia, Nicoya Penninsula or foreland 100 years ago was Nicaragua territory both Honduras and Casta Rica had take over from Nicaragua lands! Both countries are great tho
I know the tourist visa is 90 days... do vehicles have a time limit as well?
yes. The vehicle is brought into each country on a temporary import permit(TIP). It is generally setup so that the TIP is given for the same amount of time as the tourist visa, but there may be different rules for reentry and there are some inconsistencies with the C4 countries.
Do you speak Spanish or are there English speaker agents at the various borders?
It is unlikely that the border agent will speak english at most central america border crossings.
I've learned some spanish, but its pretty limited. The process at each border is pretty similar (except mex-USA) so you kinda have an idea of what you are trying to get done/what they will want from you and I would struggle through with my bad spanish.
Damn I love the van life but I cannot with some of these bathrooms 🚽
😂 Its a dream life, but its not everybody's dream.
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal that’s so true I start backpacking in Mexico next month and I am a addicted to y’all channel...... teach me I can travel the world on a budget and have a good time... not all these fake travel blogger only show beautiful drone shot.
@@Letsgogetlosts Thanks for the kind words Stacy
Did u use the bathroom lol...at the border..I had too walk a distance lol
Oh yeah, they had nice ones in the Costa Rica Aduana building
Great video. Thanks for posting. Wondering what you would recommend - I’m flying into Liberia and want to make my way up to san jaun del sur. Then back a week later to Liberia. Any tips? Thanks so much
how will you be traveling once in Central America? car, bus, hitchhiking, bicycle?
How to come your country I am afirica
@@abellegesse1378 I'm not an expert on entering USA as a foreign citizen, but I think most foreign visitors are issued tourist visas on arrival
San juan del sur is awesome
Welcome.costa rica🐢🐳
What are they doing to inspect your vehicle? Is there an xray machine anywhere on Pan Am Hghway? Noone ever goes into what these inspections involve? Are you allowed to travel with food?
No X-ray machines. They just look inside the vehicle. Generally they don't even open any boxes or really touch anything, but they are allowed to completely unpack your rig and look as much as they want. Packaged foods are OK. No meats or produce. Anything in large quantity could potentially result in a hassle if they think you are trying to import it to sell without paying taxes.
about how long was the whole process?
Everyone seems to have a different experience at every border. For us, the Nicaragua to Costa Rica crossing took around 2.5 hours. We got checked out of Nicaragua quick and easy. We got our costa visas easy too, but then it took over an hour to get the Costa TIP
Nice bat(h)room! LOL
haha. nice one
That’s what happens when you travel with no money
My husband and I are going to Nicaragua. He is a Nicaraguan National and I a US citizen. Do we need to get a visa or permission?
You can get a tourist visa on arrival good for 90 days.
Hi . It's is possible Costa Rica to Guatemala . Driving rental car . I am from South africa
Sorry, I don't know if you would be allowed to cross the borders with a rental car
Did you buy your truck in Nica ?
No. California, USA
Would you drive from USA to Costa Rica. I need to take my dogs
Yeah. Definitely
Hello, based on your experience, do you think possible/reasonable to make a roadtrip along either the est or west coast of Costa-rica/Panama with the combination pickup/caravan (4*4)?
You won't be able to stay on the beach the entire way. There are no roads (not even dirt track) that go along all the beaches. But if you and your vehicle are ok with a bit of exploration and bumpy dirt roads, you can access nearly all of the coastline in Costa Rica with a 4x4 vehicle. Panama is a bit trickier because of large stretches of mangrove that will often separate you from potential beaches and the lack of access to the Darien Gap, but once again, if you are willing to look at some maps and drive down a lot of side roads, you can access a lot of the coastline.
If you continue watching our videos you'll see that we explored most of the west coast of Costa Rica and will soon be releasing videos of our time exploring the coastline of western Panama and Bocas del Toro with our 4x4 truck.
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Interesting. Ok for no road as long as it's possible to drive across these 2 countries with being close to the nature and for that i need to be a little more precise by providing a vehicule combination example : it would be this 4*4 car ruclips.net/video/QmiabiRqcfQ/видео.html towing this 4*4 caravan ruclips.net/video/zVEEOwfdEqM/видео.html#t=7.967395. Is that something possible or the vehicles will roll over? Do we have a service map guiding us for this kind of "roadtrip" nature travel in those two countries? Or maybe an application? Good news about your coastline videos, i'm interested and will follow up.
You'll be able to get most places with that truck and caravan. I personally don't like towing a trailer on bumpy roads and it may cause you some concerns if you want to camp on the sand or if you are there in the rainy(muddy) season, but otherwise you'll probably be ok if you take it slow.
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Good feedback. Apparently it can be very bumpy with this type of caravan ruclips.net/video/rao14joQE-4/видео.html but i guess you still don't like that easier. In your eyes, would it be easier/more adapted to use an earthroamer ruclips.net/video/K62r4bHHUlk/видео.html ? or a 4*4 van like this ruclips.net/video/LwvAGjFe_M4/видео.html would be enough ?
Any opinion on these last examples?
Did you start in the US?
yep
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal we flew and was in costa rica for a week. Want to do the drive with our 4 boys soon. Looking to move there lol watching all your videos
😎🌮👍
Any problems in mexico?
A couple cops asking for money and we got tricked out of $20 by a border agent, but that was it. Pretty smooth sailing
I’ll never shower again
haha😂
She’s so lively and the guys so dead. Completely different personalities
opposites attract 😘 🤮
Why would they care about your dog 🐕
I think the idea is that he could transport parasites or sicknesses like rabies and they are trying to avoid that
Terrible travelers.
Well, give us some tips Will
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Will is just LONELY .... and needs your attn. He's probably a 17 y.o. child ... with bad acne ... and a meth problem. smdh.
