    Yet another fantastic tutorial. Glad to see you making more videos. Of course I may not be watching them in order of release. Thank you for all the additional info.

    This is amazing! I have been making simple flat leather collars for about 6 months now, and I have been curious how to make a rolled one. I currently don't have the supplies to do it, but WOAH this was a killer tutorial and the collar is gorgeous!

    Hi one other quick question. What size is you loop stick. I imagine I will need to make one. Thank you.

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 года назад +1

      You can purchase some from Abbey England 👍 if you were going to make them then it would depend on the size of strap you were intending to use. I have a whole set from 3/8" to 1 1 1/2" the taper is from very thin to about 3/8". Hope that makes sense, Jo

    Hi Jo, Thank you so very much for your generous videos! I have two questions: what are the basic, bare-minimum tools a beginner would need, and to you ever make parade harnesses for dogs? Thank you so much!

    Jo, where would I find a creaser like you have? and why do you put it on a hot plate before you use it? Thank you

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 года назад +2

      Hi Crystal, you can get a screw crease from Abbey England. If you do a cold crease without heating the crease up then the lines will not stay, my heating it up the creaser will give a more permanent line along your leather. Hope that helps, Jo

  • @LincolnTheLabrador
    @LincolnTheLabrador 7 лет назад

    When you mark out the lines, is that on the back of the collar because otherwise would that not leave horrible lines everywhere

  • @LincolnTheLabrador
    @LincolnTheLabrador 5 лет назад +1

    When you split the leather, does that not compromise the strength? Or does the filler/core substitute for that?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  5 лет назад

      I've never had an issue with it, if you split too much off then you would have a weakness issue, also if you are a bit worried about the strength of the collar you can use a rope filler and stitch it in at both ends.

    Hi great instruction! What filler are you using here? Thank you ~Frank

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 года назад

      It's called machine belting from Abbey England, you can also use rope as a filler 👍

    Hi Jo
    I would love to attempt this some time but more for a horse halter. Approximately how far to you space your invisible stitching?
    Thanks

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  6 лет назад

      Hi Megan-Anne not sure if you mean how far apart or something else so I shall try and cover everything....
      Stitching starts at the end of the turn (this is different depending on the leather and what you are making).
      The stitch lines will are determined by where the filler fits, once split place your filler in and pinch either side and mark these lines.
      Stitching is about 1/4"-3/8" apart this can be longer so long as you pull tight.
      Hope this helps, if not let me know 😁

    So I have another question for you what size crew whole are you punching is that 12 mm? Again thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Sincerely Frank

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 года назад

      Hey Frank, it depends on the size of strap and the size of the buckle tongue. It's best to do some tests on scrap peices first just in case. Jo

    Do you stitch mark the rolled part of the leather or is it free hand? X

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  5 лет назад

      I don't stitch mark it no, you need to try and keep your stitches a similar length though. If your finding it hard then you can stitch mark it. Jo

    I love your videos and I have a question so I want a red collar for my dog but how do I get it red? paint or soaking? I want another the same color as this but how would I get bright red? I hope you could answer me this question thank you I'd also want to know what type of paints are better for the process

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  8 лет назад

      +jose Rodriguez glad you like the video 😁 I get my leather from a company called metropolitan Leather and they will colour hides to order. The red I get is their stock red and comes with edge stain (though ask just in case). I don't use uncoloured leather so do not know much about the stains used for it. Jo

      Hello +las vegas life the one I have is a Joseph Dixon one, unfortunately they have gone out of business but you may be able to pick one up second hand on eBay? Also Osborne, tandy and I think Weaver leather supply do their own similar models.

    Very nice job. What dye did you use ? Love the turquoise color. I use Fiebings & angelus. Your color is so bold ! Also, what did you use for the filler ?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  8 лет назад +1

      +Peter Iacontino the leather I use is from Metropolitan Leather they are great!! The turquoise is a custom colour, they also supplied the matching stain.
      I used 4mm machine belting as the filler in this collar.

    @ 13:55 why not use a stitching groover instead of cutting the leather, it would be neater and safer.

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  5 лет назад

      If you used a grover then the stitches would be visible one you have finished the collar. This way they are hidden.

    Can I ask where you get the rolling tool you use to shape the collar from?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  7 лет назад

      +horsemansshop It came with my rounding block I brought on ebay about 8 years ago. I can measure it if you would like a pattern to make one?

    • @JHLeather

      +horsemansshop so I've measured it and there are 2 semicircles, one is 10mm wide and 5mm deep and the second is 15mm wide and 6mm deep. Hope this helps. Jo

    How do you prevent the stain from coming off the collar if it ever gets wet?
    Thanks in advance! :D

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  8 лет назад +1

      Hi +Steph Cardoze a small amount of access stain is likely to leach out when the collar is new. I use a leather balm/cleaner before posting items out to help get rid of the access stain. Normally once the collar has settled you are unlikely to get more stain coming out. Hope that makes sense. Jo

    Hi Jo, I'm attempting to make a rolled leather dog collar for the first time. I have a question, what thickness of the veg. tanned leather do you use ? PS : Love your work ! Very professional.

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  8 лет назад +1

      Hi +Peter Iacontino glad you like the videos 😁 I use 3.5-4mm veg tan bridle butt for my collars. You will need to split the rolled section down to complete the roll. Depending on what size filler you use depends on how much you need to split, do a test first to be sure.
