Polar bears only prey on young or wounded walruses. Besides, walruses live in colonies of hundreds, while polar bears hunt alone. A colony with dozens of healthy male walruses will chase off a polar bear any day of the week. It is simply not worth the risk, such an encounter costs lots of precious energy with a high likelihood of getting stabbed or bodied by these behemoths. Hell, even a 1v1 is a dangerous fight, most polar bears would just go off to find fish or smaller seals.
