Thank you, yes you're right - it was more the norm for our generation and it definitely encouraged resourcefulness and creativity. We didn't have TV or days out and suchlike either, again not unusual in those days, but I was very happy spending time learning how to make things from what we had and I still love to do that now, so I'm very happy that there seems to be a general trend for it now, long may it last :)
Your new Annie Label Designer top looks amazing what a super job you’ve done. Thank goodness for the mishaps in the beginning it led you to achieve something wonderful and unique to you. I’d love to see you in something more fitted maybe in the future, to will show of those womanly curves. So glad you’re back using your sewing again machine too. x 💐
Thank you so much Jen - yes, I love how the happy accidents lead to creative solutions that add something I'd never have thought of otherwise, it's all part of the fun of this kind of project for me. I'm very happy that you like the top, thank you - I'll definitely be doing more and maybe even some less voluminous, more fitted pieces in the future .... when I have just a few less curves to fit :) xo
Ah that is a fabulous name - works in several ways of course, love it! Thanks very much - if you try this, please share some pics, I'd love to see what you make/makeover :)
That looks so good on you. I’m glad you used the batiks instead of the pink fabric, they are perfect. Definitely would like to see what it looks like with the sleeves turned back. I don’t usually bother to watch anything this long, but worth every minute.
Thank you so much Maggie and yes I kicked myself afterwards that I didn't show the sleeves turned back - I'll wear it to Tom's tomorrow and ask him to take some pics for me so I can share them in the FB group and Discord. It was a super-loooooong video, even though I edited out a good half of it, thanks for sticking with me xo
Thank you so much Brenda, that's very kind of you to say. I haven't dared wear it outside the house yet, plan to wear it when I meet a friend for lunch soon, will be interesting to see if I get any funny looks or comments. I certainly won't bump into an yone else wearing one, that's for sure :)
You did an amazing job on this top! All of your little details with the embroidery added to the charm and the finished product looked like it came from a cute boutique. To me this is an example of being really creative. Also the blue denim fabric shirt gave the outfit a young vibe!
Thank you so much Jackie, that's really kind of you. It's lovely to get all these nice comments, I might be brave enough to wear it outside the house now :)
Thank you so much Martha, I really appreciate the positive feedback, I really wasn't at all sure about this video and almost didn't publish it, but I feel very encouraged by all the lovely comments, thank you xo
@@artyfartyannie I watched your video, then watched Corrine who was talking about be brave, wear the clothing/jewelry etc that YOU want to wear, and stop feeling like you have to fit in. It opened something in me that’s been stifled a long time. So thank you for doing this video and I do hope you’ll do more even if the majority doesn’t want to see it. I hope to create some fun clothing for myself and stop wearing plain t shirts and jeans all the time. Hugs 🤗 xo
Glad you like it Diane, and thank you so much for taking the time to watch and leave a lovely comment, I really need the encouragement at the moment so it's much appreciated :)
Thank you Annie, this would be a worthy winner in the transformation challenge. The range of decoration and finishing stitching is just right, a truly unique piece. I really enjoyed the video, you come across so honestly that I feel we are friends already.🧵🪡🤗
Ah thank you so much Rosemary, what a lovely comment. I'm very happy that you like it - the transformation challenge is always my favourite part of the GBSB, mind you, they only get 90 mins don't they, and I took about three days!! I'm slways so impressed with what they do in the time and sometimes I wish they'd give them longer and just edit it down, so we could see what they are really capable of, given a more realistic time frame. Anyway thank you for watching, more of these on the way, in fact another one went up yesterday so I hope you'll enjoy that too :)
Your new Annie Label Designer top looks amazing what a super job you’ve done. Thank goodness for the mishaps in the beginning it led you to achieve something wonderful and unique to you. So glad you’re back using your sewing again machine too. x 💐
I absolutely love the scrappy color choices. I would have never thought they would look so amazing together with the floral print but wow. I love it. This will challenge me to step outside the box when mixing fabric s💕
Thank you very much Shelley - yes I struggle with mixing prints, I was very glad that because the pink didn't work I was forced to try something different and I was lucky it worked out! :)
I love all these thrift flips and I love your laugh, happiness and joy in your makes. Its infectious . Keep on waffling. It makes me feel I am talking to an old friend. God bless❤🙏😊
Ah thanks so much Suzette, I so appreciate that, what a lovely comment. More thrift flips on the way very soon - I've been raiding my husband's wardrobe! :)
hehe thanks Lisa, that's so sweet of you to say - I had a lot of fun with this and will definitely be doing more, adding a bit more colour and individuality to my wardrobe, but it's a lovely bonus to know that people enjoyed watching the process too, thank you so much xo
Yay! Thank you Dawn! I'm deciding between a fancy-schamncy shirt or a dress at the moment - very encouraged by all of these positive comments, I will wear my new top with confidence now! :)
wow, thanks so much Kerry, that's really kind of you to say. I did have a lot of fun with this project and I always get a kick out of making something new out of recycled materials, so I'll definitely be doing more :) xo
Absolutely adorable! I love all the hand embroidery; it took the top to the next level! I love it so much!! Just beautiful and bright! At the same time it reminds me of a sampler with all the different stitches. Clothing you were unhappy with and you’ve turned into an heirloom piece of wearable art.
Thank you so much Kathy - I took it out for a spin for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed wearing it, not sure I'd have been brave enough if I hadn't had so many lovely comments on here, so I really appreciate the feedback, thank you :)
Thank you so much Rachel, wow, I was wondering if other people would think it's a bit weird, so it's lovely to get all of this positive feedback, I'm encouraged to try another one now :)
Thank you so much for watching, I am very happy that you like it. Honestly anyone who likes sewing could do this, I'm no expert, as I always say, if I can do it, you can do it )
Oh, I love it, Annie! I think the fabrics you chose in the end work perfectly together and the beautiful hand-stitching on the final piece is wonderful. Now I need to dig out that denim jacket that has been saved for some slow stitchery. Oh and the patchwork top you are secretly working on that you showed at the beginning is gorgeous too. I am going to make something similar to wear at the Festival of Quilts in August, I really need to make a start - you have inspired me!
Thank you so much Kari! Yes it was brilliant how one thing led to another and in the end I was happy with how it turned out, even though it took a few unexpected turns, that's what makes this kind of project fun isn't it? OOOhhh I'd love to see your patchworked top too, what a gerat idea to wear it at the FoQ - please do share some pics, or will you do a video on your channel showing some of the process, I'd be very interested to see how you approach it :)
I think it was a great idea! You showed your thought process throughout, and did things I never would have thought of. Also the process...😂 Snip, Rrrrrip. I always unpick everything carefully. Now I'm inspired to not be so careful.
I really enjoyed watching your upcycling process. I love how you changed your mind as you progressed. The result is very attractive. Other upcyclers have said your next step comes to you as you work through it. I can see they were right. It's good to know I don't have to have the whole design worked out before I start. As this belief was preventing me from starting. Thank you.
Definitely - I had put it off for a while, thinking I needed a proper plan, but then decided to just jump in, and I think that's the best way. Make that first cut, then just trust your instincts - I reckon if you don't try anything too complex or fitted, you can't go too far wrong. Please share some pics in the FB Discord community if you have a go, I'd love to see how you get on :)
I love how brave you are. This video has truly inspired me. I have put on weight and using the inspiration from your video to revamp my wardrobe may save me loads of $. Thank you so much.
Ah thank you so much, I'm really glad you feel inspired. The next flip video I made showed how I added a few extra inches to a top I couldn't get into any more, so you might like that one as well. It's definitely easier to start with a top or shirt that's a couple of sizes too big for you but you can go the other way around as well - just jump in and go for it, you have nothing to lose if the clothes are no good to you anyway, that's how I think of it, and you could end up with something unique which you really love :)
Oh thank you - I really did enjoy the whole process so much, I was delighted with how it turned out, and I'm really enjoying wearing my new top, so the whole thing really has been a joy for me. Knowing that other people have enjoyed watching and feel inspired to try something like this themselves is the icing on the cake, so thank you for your lovely comment :)
Thanks Peggy - oh yes, once you start doing this, you'll be looking at all your clothes (and other people's!) in a whole new way! I really should try some "bottoms" soon, a skirty maybe, or some loose trousers, bit more challenging somehow :)
Annie…the top looks fantastic…I loved it,and all reclaimed fabric..more of the same please,as I do up cycling ..super idea leaving the button bands on..❤
Thank you so much Christine, so happy you enjoyed and like the top - I certainly won't bump into anyone else wearing one quite like it eh?! :) What kinds of upcycling projects are you working on? It's always my favourite part of the Sewing Bee each week too xo
@@artyfartyannie Hi Annie..I just finished a pretty summer skirt made from a nearly new duvet cover, cut up of course ha ha and my scrappy patchwork..just got home from shopping with some more things to work on, also trying to catch up with the gardening if the rain stays away!..quite a busy time xxx
Wow, thank you! That's very kind of you - they're a bit tricky for me to film, but I hope they're useful to watch and I plan to do some more very soon, it's a lot of fun doing these flips, have you tried any yet? :)
This video was so helpful please do more. I have wanted to try something similar for so long but never had the confidence. The way you just went for it and problem solved as you went was really inspiring and has given me the confidence to have a go. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much Julie - yes definitely the secret is just to go for it, jump in and don't worry too much about the outcome, if you're only using unwanted clothes and scraps it will cost nothing but time and I reckon even if I only learn something along the way it's time well spent :) I was just reading the intro on your YT channel and wanted to say that you would be most welcome to join our Discord community if you haven't already - it's a great way to connect with fellow makers, we talk about all sorts in there and several of our members have FM and other conditions that can limit the traditional social outlets, so it's a great source of support as well as inspiration. You'll find the link here - linktr.ee/artyfartyannie
This is very interesting. I like the fact that you tried to finish all the seams. I love the scrappy look and how you did it without raw frayed seams on the outside. The unmatched buttons are beautiful; and, your hand needle work turned this into a work of ART. I can't wear a low neck blouse or dress because I have a short shoulder (which causes the garment to fall off on that side). However, you can wear a low neck garment and this tunic looks great on you.
Ah thank you Teresa, that's really kind of you, I'm glad you like the top - you should try it, just jump in and have a go, you might surprise yourself, I know I did! :)
Thank you very much - yes I'm very please with it in the end, and honestly would rather spend those hours stitching than shopping, so it's a win-win for me :)
You did a wonderful job! I've just come across this video and would love to see more of your creations, you are very pleasing to listen to and explain things well. Thank you.
Thanks so much 😊Wow! That is a massive compliment - this was my first one, I will definitely be doing lots more of these. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a lovely comment, I really appreciate it :)
Thank you so much 😊 I'm so happy that upcycling has become so popular now - long may it continue - the transformation challenge is always my favourite bit on the Sewing Bee too :)
Thank you so much Dorothy, if I do say so myself, I was really pleased with how this came out and I very much enjoy wearing it. Please share some pics and tag me if you make something inspired by this, I would love to see it :)
Thanks very much Jacquie - yes, I love the make-it-up-as-you-go-along approach and really enjoy the creative problem-solving part of it - the way the little unexpected problems turn into fun ideas along the way, as well as the fact that we're avoiding adding to the textile waste mountain and ending up with something unique, makes the whole thing very rewarding doesn't it. Also very economical - that top literally cost me nothing, it was all stuff I had already. Win-win :) xo
Hi Annie, I just love what you have created it fits and suits you well the top stitching really stands out I so enjoyed watching the progress and hope that you do many more videos. Although i get a lot of satisfaction donating to charity you have certainly inspired me to have a second look at some items that I can remake into wearable clothing. Thank you sharing. ❤❤
Hi Jan, thank you so much, I'm glad you like it and enjoyed the video - I was quite concerned that my set-up isn't really suitable for filming this type of project, so I really appreciate that. Please do have a go at reworking some of your unwanted pieces, it's SO satisfying - just jump in and try it, you have nothing but time to lose if it's something you won't wear again anyway. Let me know how you get on :)
Wow! I'm so impressed! I've been wanting to recreate a midi dress from the 1990s that I wore out, but I'm finding zero patterns. Piecing various old garments is a fantastic, creative idea. Thank you so much! Cheers from Oklahoma!!
OOh that's exciting - do you still have the dress? You might be able to take it apart to create a pattern to make a new one maybe? I am really enjoying ceating these "frankenstein" garments, more on the way very soon, once I decide which I want to try first! :)
Thank you Jacky, I really appreciate that, it was a fun project to do, but I was worried that the video wouldn't really work, so it's brilliant to have so much positive feedback, thank you :)
Yes, I grew up wearing hand-me-downs as well. I started sewing at age nine and started sewing my own clothes at age 12. My grandmother was a seamstress so I grew up watching her sew.
I think many of us can relate to that Cindy, it was more the norm when we were young - I think it encouraged creativity and taught us skills passed on from our parents and grandparents which we're still enjoying today. I think it's lovely that more people are enjoying these crafts now and recycling/upcycling has become so popular :)
I really loved the transformation . I have thought about doing something similar, but have been brave enough to start the chopping . But perhaps now I will attempt it. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much Paula - just go for it and start chopping, it's impossible to think it allthrough until you get in there and half the fun for me is the problem-solving as you go along. Just remember it's only unwanted clothes and scraps - and a bit of time, but you'll learn loads as you go along and hopefully end up with something uniquely yours. Please share some pics when you do your transformation, I'd love to see :)
Thanks Angela, I'm glad you found the video helpful and you like the top. Are you going to give something like this a go? I have lots of beginner-friendly hand-stitching videos as well which you might like to check out for some more ideas, this project was a bit of a departure for me, but I did enjoy it. Feel free to join our FB group and/or Discord community if you haven't already, they're full of lovely creative people and lots of inspiring ideas - links in the description :)
What a beautiful, creative idea! I love this top! I have a small stash of thrifted tops & dresses. I love the colors & prints but not the styles. Your design is the perfect solution! Thank-you for the inspiration😃💖
Thank you Laura, I'm so happy you feel inspired - I have another pile of scrounged, thrifted and unloved tops and shirts to work on, so there will be more videos very soon, just need to decide which to do first and get started :)
Hi Aussie, thanks very much - it got its first outing the other day and I felt very "me" in it, definitely will be doing more of these flips, it's so satisfying :)
Really appreciated comments about your upbringing. So many of us were raised in tough times where you didn’t get new clothes because of a tear or you outgrew them. Clothes got mended and you got hand me downs - it makes you more thrifty throughout your life.
And creative!

I love your ideas. My mind is going crazy with ideas for my own clothes. Thank you.
@@christinepreston8267 ah yes duvet sets are fab, you can get such a lot of fabric for very little dosh :)
Fun, Fun, Fun, thank you for sharing your talent!! Love it!!!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that :)
Definitely do more of these upcycles. Great ideas!!!!!
Tank you so much Dixie, I definitely will! :)
One of the best refashions I’ve seen… and I’ve watched A LOT of them recently! ❤️
Wow, thank you! That's very kind of you - they're a bit tricky for me to film, but I hope they're useful to watch and I plan to do some more very soon, it's a lot of fun doing these flips, have you tried any yet? :)
@@artyfartyannie Not yet! I’m definitely feeling inspired, though
Wonderful, this is a dress I would love to wear everyday!!
Thank you very much, it is really nice to wear, very comfortable and I feel like "me" in it :)
Oh my, that is amazing. I have a couple jean dresses my husband hates but since I have seen yours, I want to try it. I like that look.
very nice transformation! I love the way you did the hand embroidery stitches. Well Done!
Thank you very much, I'm so happy you like it :)
Absolutely adorable! Go you!! I’m gobsmacked!
You have given me some great ideas. Thank you for sharing your creative process and the outcome of your work. Love the dress! ❤️
Thank you very much Traci, I'm so happy you like it and found it helpfulo - I have another one coming this week, it's nearly done :)
A truely super job and very unique. You look lovely in the dress.
thank you very much Sonia :)
What a beautiful transformation! I love this so much !
Thank you so much, that's really kind of you :)
What an amazing job! Thank you for sharing your process.
Thank you very much indeed Katherine and thanks for watching such I long video, I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
I loved this video and your new make. I would definitely like to see more.
That’s a amazing top and certainly great ideas for us to try thank you 🙏
I wish I had your talent. Your new top turned out beautifully.
Ah thank you Teresa, that's really kind of you, I'm glad you like the top - you should try it, just jump in and have a go, you might surprise yourself, I know I did! :)
Great job!! It looks so lovely on you. You've inspired me to get my sewing machine out again. We've not spoken for a couple of years. Its time 🥰
hehe I was like that, but we're BFFs again now! it's definitely time - go for it! Thanks for watching, I'm glad you like it :)
Wow ! It looks amazing. Well worth all the hours that you put into it 👏👍
Thank you very much - yes I'm very please with it in the end, and honestly would rather spend those hours stitching than shopping, so it's a win-win for me :)
You did a wonderful job! I've just come across this video and would love to see more of your creations, you are very pleasing to listen to and explain things well. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback, I really wasn't at all sure this video would work very well for people, so I really appreciate that :)
Annie, I have seen many of these types of videos, but I have to say that I think yours is the best looking one I have seen!
Thanks so much 😊Wow! That is a massive compliment - this was my first one, I will definitely be doing lots more of these. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a lovely comment, I really appreciate it :)
I love your top! It is so pretty…. I love all the colors and all your hard work really shows! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Carrie :)
So beautiful !!! I love upcycling. You are wonderfully creative
Thank you so much 😊 I'm so happy that upcycling has become so popular now - long may it continue - the transformation challenge is always my favourite bit on the Sewing Bee too :)
I enjoyed seeing your process. Such a fun top. Thank you!
Thank you Mary :)
I just love your video on the process. It's a must try in my book.
Thank you, please share some pics if you try something like this, I love to see what everyone's making :)
I love it. I would love to make one that looks so comfortable and colorful.
Thank you very much Patricia :)
that's gorgeous! I love it. Well done, and thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much Dorothy, if I do say so myself, I was really pleased with how this came out and I very much enjoy wearing it. Please share some pics and tag me if you make something inspired by this, I would love to see it :)
Wow that's fabulous very you
Its great to see someone approach dressmaking the same way I do absolutely love it
Well done ❤❤❤
I love everything about this top... especially the neckline..so beautiful...so inspiring....😍
Thank you very much, that's really sweet of you to say :)
Amazing Annie. Your top is lovely and so very well made. You should be so proud of yourself💕
Thank you very much Liz - I'm so chuffed with how it turned out, even though it went its own way, I hope the next one goes just as well :)
Your make over shirt no top got so cute.Great job.
Thank you very much Lucille :)
Thanks so much for sharing your creation! It’s taken me a while to finish the video but so worth it!!
Thank you Angela, I'm very glad you like it and thanks for taking the time to watch the long video and leave a comment, it's much appreciated :)
Beautiful top, very interesting getting lots of ideas, yes would love more
Thank you Jacky, I really appreciate that, it was a fun project to do, but I was worried that the video wouldn't really work, so it's brilliant to have so much positive feedback, thank you :)
Your dress is absolutely beautiful, I’m so envious, I want it! 😂 very clever and beautifully made Annie. Xx
Thank you so much Jennie, that's really kind of you - and it's good to have the reassurance before I wear it out in public! :)
Incredible designer pieces Annie! Great work! Cheers, Christine
Thanks so much Christine, I've had a blast doing this and I think I'll enjoy wearing it too :)
It turned out very nicely. It looks lovely on. ❤❤❤
Thank you very much! :)
Fabulous! Beautiful work, your attention to detail is very nice! So creative! I really enjoyed this !
Thank you very much indeed Gina, I'm so happy you enjoyed it, thanks for watching :)
Very clever and SO fun!
Thank you Tracy - I'm really enjoying wearing it too :)
Absolutely beautiful and yes more more please ❤😁
Thank you very much, more on the way in a few days! :)
I’m new to sewing so the in-depth video is wonderful. The top looks amazing on you. Love the embroidery details. Beautiful 😍
I love this kind of video, please do more of these, if you do more flips! :) This is great!
Thank you so much, I definitely will, this was so satisfying, and I'm encouraged by so many lovely comments, thank you :)
Absolutely beautiful. So original ❤
Thank you so much Gillian, I feel encouraged to try another one now! :)
It looks fabulous you did such a lovely job, the extra stitching by hand really finsihes it off. ☺
Thank you so much Dianne, I'm so pleased you like the idea of the hand stitching finishing touches, I got a bit carried away with that! :)
Wow Annie that is so cool , looks lovely on you & I love yr choice of coloured materials & the embroidery patch circles so pretty really suits you ❤
Hi Aussie, thanks very much - it got its first outing the other day and I felt very "me" in it, definitely will be doing more of these flips, it's so satisfying :)
