Squid Fishing on Narragansett Bay

In late spring, the squid move into the Rhode Island coast where fishermen flock to lighted docks and bridges hoping to fill a bucket with fresh calamari.
Greg Vespe invited us for a night of squid jigging around Newport. Vespe uses his electronics to find and stay with the squid as they move into Narragansett Bay to spawn.

Used to fill 5 gallon buckets at the cape and sell to the charter boats.. ..some paid with cases of beer, we were 14-15...good times

I use penn 4000 size reels and 10 to 12 lb test.. kind a medium freshwater , nothing fancy just need soft tip to feel bite...

Hate to be a bummer but throwing a live creature into another boat is not good luck but horrible torture to that animal, death should be quick and as painless as possible, show some respect to the sealife. shouldn't you throw back as many of the bigger females as you can? squids are not limitless.
