Ah, the luxury of years of experience and the expenditure on tools that do the job. I wish I had it. What I have is cheap almost useless tools and the anxiety of trying to do a bang up job with littlle knowledge and ten thumbs. Still, I'm having fun trying to learn! I treasure every little bit of knowledge I glean from these uploads. Thanks to Gary for sharing. If I only get one new thing from each video I can apply in future I feel like I'm moving forward.

As always I can learn something new. Even though I’ve seen many bending jigs for the fly press before, the addition of the flat bar to the round stock to reduce marking up the stock is brilliant! Thanks brother.

You bent that slider plate the wrong way! You’ll never get any nail holes punched through with it bent that way 😅

Fly presses being as rare as frog wings in my region, I have only a 3 ton arbor press. I have never even seen a fly press in-person. How would you compare what they call a #5 (5 tons?) to a heavy 3 ton arbor press (other than the obvious pressure diffence)? Is a fly press just a lot faster and and more controllable? I presume it is the impact or impulse that gives the fly press its magic. It is just bewildering that these super useful things are not very common.
I don’t know where you are but they are very common here, almost every workshop and home maker has one! I don’t think you can compare like for like, they are totally different animals!
@@garyhuston VERY ENVIOUS - but happy to hear you have them available. I am in the US. These can be had from two or three VERY expensive yet reputable sources, and occasionally you can find an old one (usually 100+ years) for sale if you are willing to go a long way or pay exhorbitant shipping -- all worth it in the end I suppose. I'm in the Southeast US. There seems to be a few old ones in the Northeast states and then sort of scattered and rare as you go west. Again, very hard to find but shouldn't be, considering what these can do.
