You can also format it inside the PS4 by pressing the option button at the format screen. Faster than plugging into the PC

So here is my issue
It’s a Sea Gate 2 TB hard drive
To be exact it’s actually a 1.84 TB hard drive
I forgot my controller was plugged in so I pulled it over to unplug it everything almost flipped over and the hard drive tilted over a bit on the edge, it didn’t fall nothing like that. Everything is back to normal, except the games I can’t play any I spent a hour deleting all and re sending them to the PS4 storage. A lot of games were left back. It’s formattabale now I even did the exFAT option it does not work. The Device Name is PS4 Game Drive
Manufacturer Seagate
Format Unknown
Capacity 144115.2 TB
Used Space -
When I format it regularly it tells me this
Cannot format this USB storage device as extended storage.
A USB storage device that meets the following conditions must be used.
(CE-41901-5)
•USB 3.0 or later
•250 GB minimum, 8 TB maximum capacity
•Directly connected to the PS4
If it worked before it’s a 3.0 and it is I checked it
It’s also connected properly to the PS4
Now I just have no idea what to do man :(
Do I HAVE to use the computer?

Go to your usb storage devices click on the usb you have connected you have the options of “stop using usb storage” and “format as extended” instead of clicking any of those just press options on your control. Then it’ll give you the option of format as exfat

Was gonna nab a 32GB unit just to backup saves. Do I need to make sure the stick is formatted for that purpose? Not bothered about pictures or videos.

Thank you for this. But I have a small problem when I try to format it. I click format, change the thing to exfat, and click start. However, it then says that the "Disk is write protected". What's up with that?

So i just formatted my aunts usb and she had over 20 GB of photos from over the years and you didn’t say if I formatted it, it would delete all of it and now all of her photos are gone and I can’t get them back thanks!

I am using a sandick that slides out and when i put it in my ps4 it sead it cant read the USB so are some USBs better then others?

Someone please answer, when I go to storage it only shows the system storage, and it says”to use the connected usb storage device go to settings ,devices, usb storage device, then format as extended storage. Even though I did three computer thing
go settings then devices then go on usb storage devices then playstation will do the rest
