    The timeline in Fusion actually has a useful purpose. You can edit one time step or delete it, but the rest of your changes are not affected.
    E.G: You made a sketch in the beginning and extruded from that, than edited on the new body and so on. Now you want to edit your original sketch to make the footprint a little bit bigger. So you change the sketch in the first time step and it just works without having to start all over by "Ctrl + Z"ing your progress away

    Overall great comparison! I would like to point out that at 3:53 you mention that an advantage of Solidworks is that it has a search bar. Fusion 360 lets you search through all the tools by pressing 's' at any point. Admittedly, it doesn't show you where the tool is in the toolbar and Solidworks lets you search through a lot more of the program (names of parts in your file, etc.). However, it is, to me, much faster than in Solidworks as it pops up underneath your mouse rather than the corner of the screen. I, for the most part, find myself never really using the toolbar at all and just opening up the search box or using a shortcut for every tool I use. I tend to only use the toolbox when I'm exploring because I don't know what tool I should use.

      Thanks Manalor. Even with a number of years on both programs, I am aware there are going to be things I didn't know. So yea this channel is a learning opportunity for myself as well, thanks for pointing that out. I am planning on doing a video on all of Fusion 360s default shortcuts and plan on bringing this item up there.

    I'm currently torn between choosing Solidworks or Fusion 360 as my main 3D Modeling program. Keep making videos like these!

      Plan on it. Yea it definitely can be a tricky decision. Hope the 2 vids that I have already posted help. I'd love to hear any specific deciding factors that are keeping you from one or the other. I have a few more in mind, but viewers though definingly help me target more topics for future videos

    Solidworks is just too powerful , I do complex solidworks models then load them of fusion 360 cam for machining, I'm still learning CamWorks which is solidworks cam ,looks good but better F360 cam

    biggest problem for me when moving over to solidworks from fusion is that im so used to drawing on a grid with snap, thats just so fast and easy. in solidwork as i understand it you just draw a shape you need and then you have to ad alot of measurements to it untill it's what you need and where you need it.

    Thanks for your vid.
    I'm new to CAD and started with Fusion for 3D printing practical things. One of my biggest frustrations with Fusion is trying to follow along with tutorials that are more than a year old. Videos from just 2 years ago call so many of the options different things or use different icons and have moved them to different locations. I feel like I'm on my own more often than not. I've even had tutorials that don't work and reading through the comments section you have to go up to your user settings and change some of the defaults just to make some of the tools work the way they do in the video.
    I don't know if SolidWorks will have any of these problems but I'd like to give it a shot.

    • @the3dguy387
      @the3dguy387  3 года назад +1

      Yea there are definitely different settings and preferances that people have with functions and layout. I have a few featurea that I move around, but I try and make sure to tell all the places you can find them in my F360 tutorials. Fell free to ask any questions on the any of the other vids.

    I have been using Solid for about 10 years and I used Autodesk programs for a short time, but I think that Solid has more flexibility.

    • @the3dguy387
      @the3dguy387  3 года назад +1

      I would definitely agree with you on that, though I do think SW flexibility can scare off some people new to 3D modeling. Of the two, I definitely prefer SW (when I have access to it), but that definitely doesn't mean it is best for everyone. Which is were these videos hopefully help. Thanks for the comment

    solidworks really needs more feedback in the UI, if something goes wrong it doesnt tell you. especially in the CAM module. when doing a certain mill job and click on generate toolpath, it wont generate, but wont tell you why either.
    i found fusion much more intuitive to use, much less clogged up with buttons and less clicks to do something. but now that solidworks is sorta free for hobbyists, i started looking into it more to switch over from fusion which got restricted, especially in the CAM environment.

    • @the3dguy387
      @the3dguy387  3 года назад +1

      yea, I would agree that SolidWorks is still stuck in the "Engineers are our users" and "we (Solidworks) knows what our users want". While Fusion has a much more modern perspective on listening to their users, and the layout alone expresses that.

      Honestly I think either would do fine for something like a putter. If you are not going to need surface modeling I would go with F360. If you are going to need it you could probably still get away with F360, though SW is a bit better. But again for what you are doing probably Fusion

    I played with Fusion 360 for 3D printing. It seemed to take forever to export an STL to print. Have not tried SolidWorks for this yet.

    • @the3dguy387
      @the3dguy387  2 года назад

      There are a number of ways to export STL files in Fusion, the most obvious one being the longest. Not sure why they did it that way, but they did. I have a video that goes over this in Fusion.

I can't say much on that, other than I agree that Autodesk should have updated that long ago, especially since they have done so with Inventor.
